    Abel & Tasman

Abel & Tasman were our very first kittens. A colleague of mine told me that her sister-in-law’s cat was pregnant, and we decided to take the (long awaited) plunge and adopt the kittens. They were born on the day of our wedding, and we found out that they were little boys on our honeymoon, whilst in the Abel Tasman national park in New Zealand. We had 10 very special months with them – they were the most loving, affectionate, beautiful boys you could imagine. We emigrated to Australia two years ago, and had to rehome them. Even though they went to the best home I could imagine, I cried for a week and still think about them every day.

I think I have a recurring problem where two cats lying together look like one large mutant cat to me. Does anyone else have this problem?

I think they look like siamese twins in this photo! (or is the politically correct term conjoined twins?)

My sis took my kitty when I had to relocate. It was very difficult, even though she gave him the best home ever. I’m glad you found out how special kitties are in one’s life. Hopefully you’ll have some again in the future.

I almost didn’t post today because I always get so sad when I hear that someone has to give up their kittybabies.

But it sounds like these brothers are in a truly loving home, and best of all, they still have their own best buddy with ‘em :-)

This is such a beautiful story but my eyes filled with tears at the end of it. They are so cute and look so sweet!
It doesn’t say if you have new kitties in your lives, I hope you do. They don’t replace the ones that have come before, but there are so many kitties that need loving homes.

Adorable little brothers. Sometimes life is like that, where you only have so long to enjoy something. It shows us never to take anything for granted and to enjoy if fully while we have it.
When you are ready, go to a homeless shelter and adopt two other kitties. Can’t think of a better way to honor the little brothers’ memory. Thank you for sharing with us!

I nearly cried at your story about having to leave your babies. But think too, about the wonderful time you had with them, and how
fortunate you were to find them a good home–and that they are still together. Just too many people would have just taken them to a shelter. And the biggest gift they have given you is a memory!

What an adorable pair they make. Two heads are always better than one! It must have been very hard to give up these little beauties. Hopefully you’ll adopt in your new location as there are so many fur babies in need of a good home. Giving up these two to a loving home was the best and only thing you could do. I’m sure they’re doing very well. =)

When I was little we moved to Australia and had to find a new home for our cat. Then later we moved from there to London and had to find a new home for our cat. I could never understand why the quarantine rules applied to moving between Australia and the U.K., since they have equally stringent quarantine laws and no rabies. So I know exactly how you feel, and I wish they would change those laws! But certainly, although your cats must miss you, living in a new home is better than spending 6 months in quarantine. And if you can adopt some new kitties that would be a very good thing!

UK to Australia would be a very, very long journey for a cat to make – I think you did the right hting, but can only imagine what a hard decision that must have been to make. I really hope you have found new cats to love, and have happy memories of this gorgeous twosome :-)
