Location: Downer’s Grove, Illinois, USA
This is Barney, the new little brother of Virgil (from August 18, 2008) and Lola (from April 4, 2008) on his first day home (today!) He was left in a box at the front door of our vet, and needed a good home, and so I decided to give him one. He is almost five weeks old, and he is just the sweetest cat, and loves to snuggle and play!

Barney is much less startled looking most of the time – I don’t think he had ever seen a camera with a flash before! He is a very smiley cat most of the time – and has gotten used to the flash now. But that first day he was very confused by it (and how it seemed to interrupt his exploring).

Barney is a great name for a cat! There’s a guy named Barney I work with who recently brought in a canister of MSG to the staff kitchen. It’s really good on popcorn! Now whenever I hear the name “Barney,” it makes me think of the taste of that popcorn. Any cat that can do that sure gets my respect! Yum!
Barney does seem a bit overwhelmed. I’m glad he’s adjusted to the flash, he is much too handsome not to take pictures of! (Smooch on the nose smudge!)

What a precious life. He is a love. Yes he looks surprised, scared, intimidated or maybe very interested–fully attentive and arrested movement, just in that moment you caught him. It’s a good name, Barney. He has an attractive smudgy nose, and irresistible vulnerability in his little serious mouth, I think he needs lots of extra snuggles and protection.
