My fiance is allergic to most cats, but has wanted one for years, and since I grew up with cats and couldn’t possibly live without one, we decided to get a hypo-allergenic Siberian. After seven long months of waiting, here’s our beautiful little monster Grendel!

For the kitty allergies may I suggest something another person here recommended to me: a product called Allerpet/C, available on amazon.com. It works wonders!!

Grendel isn’t a monster. He looks like a mini lion. What a beauty. I never heard of a hypo-allergenic cat. How interesting. Enjoy him for a long time. He’s wonderful.

I’m allergic to kitties also, and I have three domestic shorthaired kitties. I wash my hands a lot. I’ve never heard of hypo-allergenic cats either. Grendel is absolutely gorgeous!

He is gorgeous! Siberians are the newest breed that is hypo-allergenic, but they are quite expensive. Sphinx are also. Glad that they have these so you can have a cat.

My husband is also allergic and we got a pair of Siberians for the same reason. Not all Siberians are hypoallergenic, it varies by cat, but some of them do seem to carry genes that cause them to produce less FEL D1, which is responsible for most people’s cat allergies.
Your best bet if you’re considering one is to visit breeders and see how you react to their adult cats before you take a kitten home. We had to try three different breeders before we found a line of cats that worked for my husband.
They are not (as Sheba’s Mom suggested) a new breed, but they haven’t been common in America in the past, because they hail from Russia. They’re classic cold weather cats, much like the Norwegian Forest cat and the Main Coon, very warm and snuggly!
