  • Miglino

    August 17th, 2009

    Location: Brooklyn, New York, USA

    Miglino

Miglino was found wandering around Mineola, NY on Long Island at about four weeks of age. He’d crawled under a truck stopped at a traffic light and the two men in the truck were not able to catch him. By the time I came along he’d crawled into the wheel well. I was able to pluck him out easily and as soon as I’d done it, those two men were in the truck and gone and left me holding this tiny frightened kitten. After searching to make sure there were no siblings or mother to rescue I took Miglino home.

He’s now six weeks and has stolen our hearts. He quickly adapted to “the good life” and enjoys chasing his bell ball and string. We can’t wait until he’s tested and vaccinated so that we can introduce him to our resident cats, 2 ten year old brothers. They know something’s up but have been very gentlemanly about it all.

Cea is a feral kitten I adopted. Right before I found her, I was headed for Colorado for a mountain climb and of course couldn’t leave her home alone so… we took her with us!

    Citrus

This is our latest foster kitten, Citrus. Found on abandoned on someone’s doorstep a few days ago, she’s a female ginger, around nine weeks old. Very fluffy and incredibly affectionate! We’re going to spend a few weeks fattening her up and socialising her with our other foster kittens, before finding her a permanent home.

    Pollyanna

This is my totally loveable kitty Pollyanna, who has stolen my heart. She is so smart and loves to play hide and seek with me. She also retrieves a ball that I throw for her and when I tire of it, she gives a big bossy mew which means, ” You have to keep playing with me!” For a little kitten she has a really loud purr and sneaks under my blankets at night time to snuggle. She is also very independent and confident; not letting anyone tell her what to do (uh oh!). She fills my heart with love and is the best addition to our family ever.

    Simon

This is my favorite baby picture of Simon. He is a Siamese mix rescue and was still recovering from earmites and internal parasites but loved to sit under the lamp. He just knew it showed off his beautiful blue eyes!

  • Everett

    August 12th, 2009

    Location: Austin, Texas, USA

    Everett

I adopted Everett in late May after a good friend of mine fostered him and his brother (who bit his tail and caused the temporary bald spot seen in the photo; his tail fur is growing back in now). He’s a very sweet little guy–I’ve never known such a snuggly cat. When he’s not feeling cuddly, he can be very rambunctious and tends to get into everything. He also loves sitting on my windowsill looking out at the neighbors and taking naps in the sunshine, and he is obsessed with his wet food, meowing like crazy every time he hears the can open.

  • Thunder

    August 11th, 2009

    Location: Monroe, Louisiana, USA

    Thunder

Thunder came to us in April of this year. He was the runt of the litter of four. His dad, the roaming feral BlondieCat, had fathered Thunder’s sister, KatKat, who adopted me last year by simply showing up at my doorstep one sunny afternoon, flicking up her tail, letting out a short mrew?, and sliding past me, into the living room where she plopped down expectantly: feed me! Play with me! Bring me treats!

Thunder’s journey was a little bit more complicated.

The neighbor’s unspayed female had gotten out earlier this year, and BlondieCat, ever the neighborhood Casanova, took advantage of the situation, with predictable results, one of which was Thunder. Now, the neighbors had no intentions of keeping the kittens and asked if I would be interested in adopting one. I was, and when I took a peek at the litter, with little Thunder in his gray, glorious fluffyness, I pointed at him and said: “That one!”

I had to wait several weeks for Thunder to be weaned and to be ready to leave his mom and brothers and sisters, but one afternoon, the neighbor walked over, Thunder cupped in his hands, and said: “Here’s Thunder. Oh! He has fleas…uhm…well, uh, gotta run!” That was the last I saw of the neighbor. And what I saw of Thunder: literally covered in fleas, tiny, shivering, meowing. Worried about the fleas getting on KatKat and about Thunder’s general absence of health, I bathed him several times to try to get rid of the fleas. Poor Thunder! The first night at the new home turned into the hour of terror. Repeated dosing with wet stuff, followed by vigorous rubbing in a terry cloth: victory over the fleas was finally achieved. Exhausted, Thunder fell asleep, cradled in my neck, purring to comfort himself and occasionally blinking open an eye to assure himself I was still there.

The next morning I took him to our vet who thought Thunder was so malnourished and bled by the fleas he might have lasting neurological problems. I realized Thunder had problems walking in a straight line and keeping his head up without shaking, and it became obvious to me that Thunder might be a special needs kitten. So be it! Well, the vet treated Thunder for dehydration and worms and then encouraged me to syringe-feed him until he was strong enough to feed himself–which I did for about two weeks, and then something amazing happened: Thunder began to “perk up” and assert his independence. He started wobbling over to KatKat’s feeding bowl, scampered upstairs to the litter box, took an interest in jingle balls and crinkle mousies. He started to hold his head up straight and without shaking. Not only did he walk, he ran, jumped, backflipped.

He is about four months old now, still small for his age, but a purring machine, full of boundless energy, enjoying new discoveries (like cheese and icecubes!) and thundering with KatKat up and downstairs many times a day, living up to the full potential of his name!
