    Junior & Muffin

These are my two little ones, brother and sister, just a couple of days after we adopted them from the shelter. They came home in perfect health and then, two days later, Junior developed a sneeze, runny nose and eyes. His little sister caught the same virus and then both were so sick that the vet thought that they wouldn’t make it. However, tons of medicine and care later they are now happy, healthy well loved additions to our home.

I live in Albuquerque, and got a young cat at the city shelter last June who had a similar experience. We always adopt cats from the pound, and they always get the upper respiratory virus after we bring them home. However, this one got a TERRIBLE case of it, and wouldn’t eat or drink for 9 days! We had to feed her baby food with a syringe 4 times a day and give her subcutaneous fluids to keep her hydrated. We really did think she was going to die a few times, but she eventually turned the corner and started eating and putting on lots of weight. She’s super healthy and energetic now, but it was a real nightmare for a while, and I wish the shelters could do a better job of preventing the spread of the respiratory viruses.

What beautiful red-and-white kittens! I’m glad they’re feeling better. :) And an excellent picture. Athena and Krazikat are right, this picture would make an excellent calendar or greeting card.
