Pounce!
FUZZ crosses the Alps. Sorry, Arcalian, I couldn’t resist! I’d love to photograph him watching the fish tank.
I hate to say this, but like all three-colored cats, Hannibal is almost certainly female.
HAPPY CATERDAY TO RARE BOY*, MR. HANNIBAL!
Hannibal certainly looks like he plotting something! The markings on his face give him a permanent onry look. Thanks for giving Mr. H a loving home and I wish you many warm, fuzzy, fish watching, wing eating years ahead.
*A male Calico? Interesting. For anyone who doesn’t know, a genetic mutation makes male calicos (and Torties) very rare. In fact, 99% of all Calicos are female.
Hannibal is a rare and precious kitty.
Hannibal or Hannibelle?
What a brave kitty to eat buffalo chicken. My cat stuck his head in a box of jalapeno cheese crackers once. I heard a crunch followed by the sound of a cat desperately trying to get his head OUT of the box. MOL
I love it when a plan comes together.
Come on, there are male calicos (which Hannibal isn’t, really), just like there are orange girl cats, even if it’s not the most common.
Hannibal is soooo cute. He sure looks like he’s plotting something, haha!
really a boy, or perhaps a, uh small misunderstanding?
lovely either way!
He has a male-type nose and mouth. And very long whiskers!
Hannibal is a handsome male calico. For those that don’t believe there are such things I suggest you go to Petfinder.com and look for male calico as they do exist. Coincidentally, last night I saw a good number of them and I doubt that pet shelters get desexing wrong. Not that that is cleared up…..
I love Hannibal’s fur and indeed he does look like he is planning something. His eyes remind me of David Tennant when he played “Dr. Who”. We’ll see if Arcalien has any such comments. I am glad you got Hannibal as he is a beautiful boy. Many happy loving years with your kitty man!
Hannibal has most striking markings and colors! I agree, he looks like he is planning something – perhaps world domination?
He (she?) is thinking, hmmm what else am I going to get into today?
Jerseygirl, no need to apologize. I didn’t even come up with the concept anyway.
If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the FUZZ team.
Sun worshipper FUZZ
boy or girl, doesn’t matter!! gorgeous!!
And serious.
Hannibal is just gorgeous! I love his patches and white, just beautiful. He DOES look like he’s thinking something.. or maybe he’s just a little annoyed at the flash 🙂 May you have many happy years with him
Male calicos are very rare–they are sterile also. He/she is cute anyways! Petfinder is very often wrong with their descriptions—they list cats as Persians/Himmies when they are obviously not.
Ok, let’s settle this once and for all: what does the VET say?
You go, Hannibal!
I read that tri-color males are about one in a thousand, sterile, but also that one in a very great many is not sterile, and I can’t remember how many cats you have to go through to find the one who can reproduce. But it’s certainly 6 figures, if not 7.
The fur on Hannibal’s back stands up and looks like feathers and he looks very soft. He’s a good looking fellow. I’m sure he’ll bring you years of joy. ^ ^
The reason male calicos and torties are rare is that, in order to have both black (or brown tabby) and orange fur, the cat needs two X chromosomes. Normally any female mammal has XX and any male has XY. A male can be calico only if he’s XXY, which is a genetic flub and very unusual. I’ve heard that at least some male calicos exhibit female behavior toward other males, but I don’t know if that’s consistent.
But Hannibal’s a very cute flub, and we certainly don’t hold it against him.
Orange females are not nearly as rare as male calicos, and they are generally not sterile. The ones I’ve known have been tomboys, though. One of the kittens in the litter of four that I did allow one cat to have before being spayed was originally mis-sexed as a female, but it that wasn;t that far off – he had an undescended testicle – so he essentially needed spay surgery rather then neuter surgery when he was old enough, poor little guy (His name was Marcel, because he had a totally white face at birth).
Oh, and P.S., cats always ARE planning something, and they start as kittens. Just enjoy it. (Smile)
I think she was just respecting your distinctive comment style.
The name is so appropriate! He looks devious as well! Now all you need is the rest of the team!! 😉
Hannibal has such a gorgeous coat, and a very intense gaze. I’m sure he’s planning something – as Pedant noted, cats are always planning something, if they’re not in the middle of carrying out an attack on some toes or napping. Maybe they plan in their dreams, too? Anyway, I hope you enjoy many healthy, fun years with this beautiful furfriend, whatever gender s/he is.
Handsome Hannibal.. ~ I like his Snoopy pillow!
Don’t forget that Hannibal also crossed the Alps! What a Hon!
Oh, what great, long whiskers on that purrfectly adorable boy! He has wonderful markings and such an intense gaze. I am sure he doesn’t care that he’s started quite a controversy, as long as it doesn’t interfere with his plans for the day.
You and Hannibal! I love it when a plan comes together. 🙂
Hannibal your comfy pillow bud as Snoopy looks pleased to cuddle with you as our sun worshiper, fisherkit yet chickie nomming callie Star-kit of the day at TDK!
Calicos are beautiful no matter the sex. Lucky you and lucky Hannibal!
Hannibal is quite a handsome fuzz.
Gryt, there really aren’t any calico boy kitties, normally. Truly. Ask your vet, or look it up.
The more accurate term is tri-color. Hannibal has three colors on his coat, and that coloring is sex-linked.
Orange cats? Orange girls are much more common. The statistic I heard is that 60% (or 65%??) of orange cats are female, and I know several personally. I volunteer at my local Humane Society shelter, so I get to see lots of different kitties all the time.
The statistic I heard for tricolors is that only one in a thousand are boys, and those are always sterile; only one of those in several million is NOT sterile.
I saw one tri-color boy cat, and he definitely had three colors, but not in patches; his hairs were striped, individually, so the bright orange part was for the most part not visible. But he qualified! And he was sterile.

OOPS – I meant to say that 60% or perhaps 65% of orange cats are BOYS, not girls. Sorry about that!
