Location: Cork, Ireland
Buttons has had a very rough start to life. He was rescued from a roadside after being dumped along with his litter-mates, but was the only one to survive. After a struggle to overcome a serious case of cat flu and feline herpes he unfortunately escaped and was attacked by a feral cat. He survived that attack and although it left him severely disabled for months and FeLV positive he is a now just over a year old and a very happy, playful kitty. He still can’t walk properly, but loves sitting on his cat activity centers looking out at the birds and dogs going by. Buttons is truely a very special cat and has such a fighting spirit! I have never given up on him and I never will. He really brings joy to my life, and everyone that meets him feels the same.
I love this picture. You can see the St Francis medal on his collar. He always wears it.

What an inspiring story of courage and persistence! (And cuteness.) How appropriate that Buttons is wearing his St. Francis medal, since today is St. Francis’s feast day! Blessed feast day to all who share St. Francis’s love for animals.
I feel just awful for poor Buttons and what he went through as a baby kitten. It is truly a miracle that he survived at all. I think he is amazing and gorgeous! I want to smooch that adorable pink nose of his

I light a candle nearly everyday to St Francis and have a little statue of him in our home so he can watch over all my animals but for some reason buttons is extra special and gets his very own medal

Wow what a tough cookie Buttons is, bless you for not giving up on him. Buttons is very handsome and obviously well taken care of and extremely loved.
Just watched a bunch of local kids on the news get their critters blessed on St Francis’ day. Very cool that Buttons is featured today. I like the idea of his wearing the medal as well. Wishing Buttons much health, happiness, & blessings.

Thank you all so much for your kind words.. Buttons will never be able to walk,balance or jump properly but that doesn’t stop him being full of energy and love… He loves his St Francis medal i call it his “Bling Bling”
We will taking him back to the vet for an FeLV retest soon so we are praying it will be negative but until then he has his special diet and daily vitamins which we hope will all prolong his life to… He is such a special kitty im truly blessed to be able to care for him.

Oh, I missed la festa di san Francesco this year. Years ago, I studied in Perugia, the largest city in Umbria. Assisi and Perugia were warring city-states, but nowadays Assisi is a suburb of Perugia, and there are plenty of cats sunning themselves in the piazze of both towns.
