Sodapop and Rum-Tum-Tugger

This is a picture of Sodapop (left) and Rum-Tum-Tugger (right) in September of 2012. They originally appeared together on a friend’s farm outside of Iowa City in June of 2012. My friend fed them and attempted to find out if they belonged to any of her neighbors, but nobody claimed them. Since she already had three cats of her own, she wasn’t able to take them in. This picture was taken when she posted them on Craigslist, looking for good homes for them. At the time, Sodapop was called Noisy Cat and Tugger was called Tiny Cat.

At the time, my wife and I already had two cats, Sephera and Samantha, and weren’t sure if we could take in another. Sadly, Samantha developed cancer around August of 2012, and she deteriorated rapidly. In early November of 2012, we had to say goodbye to Sam after only knowing her a few years.

I convinced my wife that we should adopt both Noisy and Tiny, as at the time, everyone was under the impression they were from the same litter. In early December, we decided to adopt them both and renamed them. When they were brought to the vet, we discovered that Sodapop was actually about three months older than his ‘brother’ Tugger — but they were both only nine and six months, respectively, so still very much kittens.

Since brining them both home there’s been some adjustment, naturally — our existing cat, Sephera, is about seven and doesn’t always like to get as rough and tumble as her little brothers. She does love to eat their kitten chow though!

We couldn’t be happier to have these two little bundles of joy in our lives. Sodapop is the more mellow kitty, and very talkative — every morning when we get up he chirps and meows a lengthy dissertation on the night’s activities. Tugger is growing into a fluffy little ball of mischief, always pouncing or getting into something.
