Sodapop & Rum-Tum-Tugger
Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa, USA

This is a picture of Sodapop (left) and Rum-Tum-Tugger (right) in September of 2012. They originally appeared together on a friend’s farm outside of Iowa City in June of 2012. My friend fed them and attempted to find out if they belonged to any of her neighbors, but nobody claimed them. Since she already had three cats of her own, she wasn’t able to take them in. This picture was taken when she posted them on Craigslist, looking for good homes for them. At the time, Sodapop was called Noisy Cat and Tugger was called Tiny Cat.
At the time, my wife and I already had two cats, Sephera and Samantha, and weren’t sure if we could take in another. Sadly, Samantha developed cancer around August of 2012, and she deteriorated rapidly. In early November of 2012, we had to say goodbye to Sam after only knowing her a few years.
I convinced my wife that we should adopt both Noisy and Tiny, as at the time, everyone was under the impression they were from the same litter. In early December, we decided to adopt them both and renamed them. When they were brought to the vet, we discovered that Sodapop was actually about three months older than his ‘brother’ Tugger — but they were both only nine and six months, respectively, so still very much kittens.
Since brining them both home there’s been some adjustment, naturally — our existing cat, Sephera, is about seven and doesn’t always like to get as rough and tumble as her little brothers. She does love to eat their kitten chow though!
We couldn’t be happier to have these two little bundles of joy in our lives. Sodapop is the more mellow kitty, and very talkative — every morning when we get up he chirps and meows a lengthy dissertation on the night’s activities. Tugger is growing into a fluffy little ball of mischief, always pouncing or getting into something.

Condolences of the loss of one your older kitties, how sad they had to part from you so young. Quite serendipitous for these two sweeties to come along! May you enjoy many years together of happy conversations and snuggling
Welcome Soda Pop and Tugger!
Soda Pop’s coloring is beautiful. I’m sure Tugger’s is nice too, but I can’t see his sides from this angle.

After reading about your kitties’ distinct purrsonalities I am tempted to write my long-postponed PhD thesis on the temperament of stripey grey kitties, whenever i read/hear about them, they all seem to be, shall we say “rambunctious”, with my own master Dorian Gray being a prime example, so different than my RB tuxedo Nicky, although at 3 yrs old he’s “beginning” to settle down LOL. Enough about me, thanks for sharing your terrific twosome with us!

Two adorable precious bonded kitties. I’m so glad you adopted both of them. They look healthy and loved. ^ ^
Two bundles of fuzzy cute!
Love em! They sound like quite the pair!
The loss of our babies is so hard but I know you gave Samantha the best of loving homes. She has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Sephera lost her best buddy, too. But these wee kits were sent your way because they knew you would need their love and antics. No doubt Miss Sephera just thumps them when she’s had enough! Many happy times together with Mr. Sodapop and Mr. Run-Tum Tugger (yea, t.s.eliot).
What a beautiful pair. I’m so glad they found each other & then you. I think it sounds like you have two full of character & fun. I believe your older cat enjoys the entertainment some of the time…..Maybe? Much health & happiness to all three.
What a dynamic duo! I’m sure Sephera puts up with a lot with these two, but just tell her they will keep her young! Enjoy!
Beautiful buddy pair! They could be from the same mother cat. My friend and I just caught a mother cat, one kitten who was about 3 or 4 months old (still nursing on the mother) and two kittens who were about 9 weeks old. We got them all spayed/neutered and adopted. It took awhile to get the kittens tamed enough for adoption, but the mother cat must have been tame at some point because she was not afraid.
Enjoy every minute of your life with all your fur babies!
What a wonderful pic. They’re both lovely and I’m so glad they found a great home.
I love your story, and though you can’t ever replace Samantha, these two little vagabonds will surely make your heart grow anther couple of notches. Bless you and your wife for bringing both babies into your home.
