Ruby
Location: St. Louis, Missouri, USA
Ruby was a spur of the minute decision when a friend revealed she had a litter of kittens that badly needed homes. One look and I couldn’t say no. The little lady is adjusting well to life here with my three year-old poodle mix, Gus. One minute they’re wrestling, the next they’re cuddled up and being sweethearts. She’s a feisty little troublemaker with an insatiable appetite. Ruby is about 2 1/2 months old in the photo.503 Comments »

POUNCE!
Happy Anniversary, Kittenmaster (and clan kinsman) Fraser! I will celebrate by this kitty, tucking her under my arm, and looking like the Heisman Trophy as I run for daylight!
Don’t take your love to town FUZZ!
You had better check Instincts pocket
This baby look so regal in this pose. What beautiful colors!
What anniversary is that?
Well, two years ago today (or from what we can see) was the first posting of the Daily Kitten.
Um, I think you’re a month late. I am seeing the first kitten as April 16th, 2005. Unless I’ve really missed something, it’s May now
Looks like we missed the anniversary - the first entry was April 16 2005.
Can we have a “Better Late than Never Party”? I bought a 1-gal frozen margarita maker at Wally World last night!
mmmm margaritas. I’ll have one please.
Grabs Ruby while Ginny is distracted by making margaritas and high-tails it out the door! Leaves McGuyver behind to set booby-trabs to keep Ginny from being able to follow.
Count me in! What little cutie that first kitten was!
Yeah, we can celebrate anyhow.
I think you just got a dried hairball ppearson. Ginny never had Ruby
She was just delusional (as usual)
I stick with beer. Got a nice microbrew the other day at the store
could you share the beer? I’m not big on Margaritas and I want to celebrate too!!
I’ll have a strawberry/mango ‘rita, please!!!
:))
*passes beer to Pipa’s mum*
Not as good as some of the Belgium stuff I’ve had, but still dang tasty
**passes Spanish beer (MAHOU) to Instinct**
Try this… served in a freezing glass…
You want REAL beer? Here, try Cerveza Victoria from Mexico, Shiner Bock from the good ol’ USA or Newcastle Brown Ale from the UK. All delish dark beers!
Never had MAHOU before
*sticks tounge to glass to see if it will freeze there*
Ginny… are you trying to say that our beer is fake ‘cos it isn’t dark brown and hot??!!???
*gasp*
HOT BEER?!?!?!? I love my friends from the British Isles, but friendship only goes so far
well, to be exact… it’s warm beer…
but to us Spaniards, warm beer in beautiful sunny Spain is some kind of blasphemy!!!
we have beer as I offered Instinct in freezing cold glasses…
Now ladies, let’s not have a beer war here.
I suggest we hold hands and sing ‘kumbaya’ until we throw up - which for me would be about 3 seconds after we begin singing
Hook me up with some of that frosty mug Spanish beer! Although a Belgian ale sounds wonderful as well.
And I’ll be throwing up with you Instinct on the singing.
*passes a frosty mug to MeezerMama*
I know it’s hard to believe but I could really pass over the throwing up part….
P.D. MM you have some beautiful cats!
It’s too bad my roomie isn’t on this site. He’s an international beer connosieur of the first order. He’d drink all those beers and ask for more. Albeit spaced out over the day with good pub food, of course.
Oh thank you Pipa’s mum. You do too.
How about we skip the singing and then none of us has to throw up.
Good idea.
Hey, Pipa’s Mum - Can you give me the real REALLY authentic receipe for Sangria - have several friends who make it - batches are never the same (some really yuck - how do you say yuck in Espanol - not Yucatan, yuk, yuk). Found a new one over the weekend, a cookbook from Australia at that lovely discount store Tuesday Morning - it just says Spanish red wine, brandy, and thinly sliced fruit. My friends add actual fruit concentrate ???? Recommendations, comments. Thanks y’all !!
hello!
I don’t know if anybody reads this at this time…
But I’m clearly in a different time line and people may be looking at the next kitty when they wake up!
But I thought I should give the real recipie for SANGRIA…
Here it is, the real thing, as my mother does it:
In big punch bowl add:
2 bottles of red wine (here we use less quality wine for the sangria but it can’t be too bad)
1 bottle of lemon soda
2 glasses of cognac or rum (depends on tastes)
6 spoons of sugar
2 oranges cut in chunks (the peel decorates the bowl)
2 peaches cut in chunks
a piece of raw cinamon
That’s it!
Enjoy and tell me about it!
REAL SANGRIA!!!!
Whooooooo Hoooooooo!!!!
I second that Whoooooo Hoooo!!
Well now that everybody is a little bit tipsy from all the nice alcohol, I will nonchalantly pick up Ruby. I will just walk away because I can.
No, you don’t if you care for your life! *waving menacingly a baseball bat*
Thank you Pipa’s Mom - will be trying this soon - not positive about what you call lemon soda, but will look for - we do have some soda shops which sell imported stuff and will look there or in Spanish grocery - we have quite a few now, so great not to have to drive to Miami or Orlando to get chorizo sausage, etc. Thanks again !!!
Question to kittenmaster…what time zone is the daily kitten posted in? I never seem to catch to posting on time and than get overwhelmed with all that is going on. It can get awfully busy in here. And I have to say, this is one beautiful baby girl, and to all of you, she’s MINE!
I’m based in London, so it’s posted at 3.07pm London time (GMT). So if you’re based, for instance, on the East Coast of the US, you’ll get it at 10.07am.
Thank you, I am on the East Coast, USA so tomorrow I will be waiting at 10:06 am.
I’m always lurking about that time, unless we have a staff meeting. Staff meetings really cut into my kitten time!
*brings in the martinis*
Shame on you Kittenmaster for not blowing your own horn,so-to-speak. You should be very proud of your accomplishments here at TDK. You’ve created a network w/beautiful people working for the same thing-the preservation of creatures, great & small. Alot of animals would not be alive today if it weren’t for this site & the people pulling together to save & protect these creatures. Be very proud. I know I’m proud & thankful for you. Happy Late Anniversary.
Here! Here! (Raises champagne glass to toast.) To Kittenmaster!
To The Daily Kitten and Kittenmaster! Bottoms up!
Just looked at first kitty…how sweet and only 12 posts! You’ve come a long way baby!
I notice, too, that people were offering to buy the first kitty. Now they just snatch them and zoom off on their motorcycles or submarines or whatever.
Must have something to do with supply and demand. Of course, now that there are 730 archived kittens, there should be plenty for everyone.
Cheers, Kittenmaster!
Kittenmaster,
I noticed that people were offering to pay for the kitten. Now there are pitchforks and catnappings. So much fun, so little time.
*raising glass and kitties raising treats* A toast to The Daily Kitten. Happy Anniversary Kittenmaster (albiet a month late - but with this crew, who cares, it’s the celebration that matters). May the TDK family enjoy continue to grow and be happy. May we continue to support each other, laugh at and with each other, and share a virtual kitten each day. Cheers!
Cheers!
*clink*

Thank you Rosie.
Good luck job hunting, Karin. Job hunting sucks big time.
By the way guys, you can all have the beer.
