TigerlilyThis is Tigerlily. When she was born she used to hiss when you touched her, but now she is four months old and doesn’t do that any more. For some reason she does not like cuddles - I don’t know why, because every cat likes to be loved. She is a tabby, although at first we thought she was a Bengal until we found out that Bengal cats are jungle cats.

Brandi, is that why Max is so nutty? I didn’t know he belonged in a jungle!!! I’m shocked you never told me! lol - Just kidding. Max is a lovebug. If I’m sitting down, he’s on my lap. Gali was a bit upset in the beginning, but they have worked it out. Gali sleeps on my side when it’s time to sleep. I think I’d rather him on my lap, though (13 lbs is awful heavy after awhile!)
I love this kitty’s name. Tigerlily is quite gorgeous, but I don’t think she looks like a Bengal. Then again, I’m not an expert either.

Our Sammy only likes to cuddle on his terms too, and his face
is a lot like Tigerlily’s, only he is an orange tabby.
He will bite my leg until I pick him up and cuddle him and rub
his tummy for a wee bit and then ‘boom’ he is off and running.

What a beautiful kitten love the pose. Some cats/kittens are very loving but do not like to be held. My late great Taffy would lay along my hip when I was in my chair he loved to have me stroke him but did not tolerate being held. Domino my chubba bubba 22lb. tuxedo would lie in my arms on his back like a big baby.

Susan, I have a tuxedo named Sylvester and he also doesn’t like to be held but will sit on me if I am sitting or lying on the couch. He always makes sure he is touching my legs when I got to sleep at night. He loves to have his head scratched and belly rubbed.

Tiger Lily is a beauty. Hopefully as she grows older she will at least become more affectionate. Sometimes time is all they need.

my beloved Beanie, also a tuxedo, would let me scoop him up just in front of his hind legs, under his belly, and let me carry him around the yard upside-down. He did this as I had broken one arm and it was the only way I could pick him up with the other one!

The older my cats get the more affectionate they are and the more they like to be held. Sophie was 8 before she purred for me or like to be held. She bonded with my dog at the time and would cuddle up to her and purr–I could hear her. She liked my attention but never asked for it. She also bonded with my older cat Spooky who thought I belonged to her. I always suspected Spooky told her she couldn’t go near me it was 4 years after Spooky went over the rainbow bridge before she was comfortable getting on my lap.

Our Hershey will jump into the chair with you and curl up and sleep and loves to be petted and cuddled then, but if you pick her up off the floor and try to hold her and cuddle her, forget it. She’ll just stare straight ahead and won’t make a single purr, as if she’s just waiting for it to be over.

A lot of cats like the cuddling to be on their terms only.

My Bailey (who I saved from the flooded parking lot) used to not like being held. Everyday, I would pick her up, place her on my chest, talk sweet to her, and pet her. Of course, I’d add in the, “You love girl time, don’t you baby, girl?” Needless to say, Bailey is now a cuddlemeister! She crawls all over me and if I lie down on the couch–she’s the first one there to sleep on my chest and lick my face. I’m now trying this with Bosley. He only likes to cuddle on his own terms. We’ll see! ;)

Tigerlily is gorgeous. Love her eye color, looks like a gray-blue, perfect for her.

I wonder if all kittens hiss when tiny? My little ones born on 5/2/07 started hissing whenever I touched them when they were 2 days old. Hissed for about 3 days or so and then stopped as they got to know me.

I hope Tigerlily will learn to like cuddles as she grows but I have quite a few that love petting, grooming and kneading on my body, but not being held or hugged.

What a pretty baby. She looks a lot like my sunshine did at that age. Now Sunshine has gotten a lot of brownish gold mixed in with the grey and her stripes are not as distinct. She will allow me to cuddle her for a very short time. However, if I am talking on the phone, fixing my makeup, etc., she tries to get right in my face. So I guess these are her terms !?! Hope she gets more affectionate as she ages, she is only 1 1/2 yrs now.

I agree.. My two cats, Stormy and Chessie are not big on cuddles. Chessie does not like to be held at all, but he will flop down beside me on the bed at night and purr. He was hand raised and actually likes his belly rubbed on occasion.

Stormy is finally coming around with cuddling. She will get in my lap once in a while when I am working on the computer, but she rarely purrs. Whenshe does it is a very soft purr, barely audible unless you have your head very close to her…

Junior, who is the cat I took in about a week and a half ago to keep him from crying outside my window, purrs constantly and loves to cuddle.

In fact, I have to physically remove him from my desk at times as he likes to lie down on the computer keyboard when he wants attention.

He is a sweet and loving critter who gives me a head bump at night just after I go to bed, but he plays really rough. My hands are covered with tiny scratches and bite marks.

He is going to what I hope is his Furever home later this afternoon. (Pacific coast Time)

My cat Winnie the Poof used to like being held until we got her brother, Methos. Now she doesn’t like to be held, although she will tolerate me, but she likes to cuddle up to me on her own terms. Any time I am on the couch she will meow at me because she wants up (or down), but I don’t have a blanket spread out! As soon as I do, she curls up against my leg and goes to sleep. If I take a nap in the bed and let her in, she’ll curl up against my tummy or chest and sleep with me. Methos, on the other hand, loves to be held and petted. He purrs so loud you can hear him across the room! He will not, however, lay still. He’s a ninja kitty - he starts out by my leg and within 10 minutes has wormed his way very slowly up onto my chest (as if I didn’t see or feel his 18 pound bulk?). If I let him in the bedroom, he’s constantly moving. He likes attention! :)

Give Tigerlily some time. Keep petting her whenever you can, pick her up but let her down as soon as she wants to. She’ll get used to it over time, I think. Then again…some kitties are like Poof…it’s on their terms.

Multiple Bengal owner here and the breed is known to be difficult and not perhaps the ideal house cat. Tufted ears, blue eyes and those oversized paws are all Bengal like. Does she have a spotted belly? If so you’ve got a Bengal.

Tigerlily is a beautiful flower, I mean… kitty. My April didn’t like being cuddled and held either, except for a brief moment every morning when she would climb onto my lap to get some love before I left for work. The rest of the time, forget it! But now at age 2-1/2 she has discovered that there is no indignity in being petted, and is gradually mellowing out. I wonder if it will last.

    Very sweet story…

    No Ordinary Blanket

Throughout our lives, an average blanket had become a part of our family’s story.
    By Natalie Walker Whitlock

He bought it at the Sav-On Drugstore for $4.97.

It was an unassuming wool blanket–red tartan plaid with fringe on each end. When new, it was starchy and its colors vivid; but after nearly 20 years of service, the colors were faded and so threadbare in places you could see right through it. I thought the blanket itchy and hot, but Dad stubbornly defended its merits.
“This is no ordinary blanket,” he would say.

Commonly known as a stadium blanket, we called it our “car blanket” because that’s where it resided between outings and vacations. It lay folded neatly in the back of our ‘68 Chevy station wagon, ready and waiting to be called into service. Most of its use came as a picnic blanket, a groundcover over the rocks, sand, and pine needles of my childhood.

My father’s blanket began its distinguished career shortly after he and my mother were married. They were driving along a wooded highway when they noticed smoke rising in the distance. What my parents assumed was a harmless campfire turned out to be a smoldering brushfire threatening a nearby trailer home. With no one around and no time to spare, they fought the small fire–just Dad, Mom, and the car blanket. After that, it was a little worse for the wear, but Dad just said the discolorations gave the blanket “character.”

A few years later, Dad passed a blue sedan parked along the side of a city street. A few seconds down the road, he got the notion that something wasn’t quite right with the scene, and he turned around to have a closer look. There, in the dim light of evening and within sight of the speeding cars, a woman was having a baby. Dad lent a helping hand, the use of his blanket, and a ride to the hospital. The couple was deeply grateful for the unsolicited help of a stranger.

For a while, the blanket returned to its familiar role. We watched fireworks on it and drive-in movies. It protected my father’s backside during an unexpected roadside tire-change. Once, when a spring trip to the beach turned unseasonably chilly, I recall huddling beneath its protection with my sisters, grateful for Dad and his scratchy old blanket.

Several years later, my father was the first one at the scene of a serious accident. Instinctively, he stopped and approached the mangled car where a young woman was inside, trembling and bloody. He thought of his own five daughters as he wrapped the blanket around her and comforted her. The warmth of the wool helped prevent shock from setting in and kept her calm until the ambulance arrived.

The car blanket ended its remarkable sojourn with our family one brisk December morning. A homeless man, a “regular” outside Dad’s office building, asked him for some spare change. Almost as an afterthought, my father went back to his car, got the blanket from its resting place, and presented it to the man. The last time my father saw the red plaid blanket was around his shoulders.

My mom bought a new car blanket soon after that, but it just wasn’t the same. It was blue and soft; it had no stickers or threadbare patches, no grease stains or singed edges.

The old wool blanket had earned its place in our family mythology. It was, after all, no ordinary blanket.

I found this on Recipezaar (nice site!)–as a banana bread lover, I have to make this soon! (The comments below are posted by a Recipezaar member. The site members rated this a five star recipe…)

    Best-Ever Banana Bread (honestly!)

This was posted by nlb in epicurious. It is from Necessities & Temptations from the Junior League of Austin. I have never, EVER, had a banana bread this good.

    2 loaves 1½ hours 20 min prep

    Topping
    6 tablespoons butter
    10 tablespoons dark brown sugar
    3 tablespoons milk
1 cup chopped pecans (or more, toasted)
    Batter

    1 cup butter
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    2 eggs
4 very ripe bananas, mashed (or 1 3/4 c, the bananas have to be so ripe that they’re nearly black!)
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (I add 1 tblsp)
    4 tablespoons buttermilk
    2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda (I also add 3/4 tsp baking powder)
    1 teaspoon salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Cream butter and sugar; mash bananas, beat 2 eggs and add to the bananas with vanilla and buttermilk; mix well and add to creamed butter and sugar; sift together flour, soda and salt; add to banana mixture, beat well; pour into 2 greased and floured 9×5x3-inch loaf pans; bake 45 to 50 minutes (I find this bread needs over an hour) or until bread pulls away from sides of pan; add topping.

To prepare Topping: Melt butter in saucepan; add sugar and milk; cook until syrupy (like honey); remove from heat and add chopped pecans; pour over bread spreading to all the corners and place under broiler until bubbly and brown.

Watch closely (this takes around 1 minute- maybe even less!).
