1180240442.jpgMy neighbour’s dog was after this little guy when he was in her backyard. Since she couldn’t keep him, she brought him to me, knowing I rescue cats. He was only four weeks old and a little sickly. I nursed him back to health and was supposed to find a new home for him, but he pulled at my heartstrings so much that he became a part of the family. Willy is a year old now and such a delight to have.

Yum - I’d love a glass of OJ! I’ve brought eggs bernaise to the brunch. They are like eggs benedict, but with a bernaise sauce insstead of hollandaise sauce. Had them at a B&B in Cape Cod once - heavenly! Help yourself!

It has been my pleasure, Rubia. I’m not sure if most of you have gotten a chance to view the adoptable animals available at Friends For Animals, but I am very pleased to know that our memorial fund for Jerry will be spent helping animals like this dog that tugged at my heartstrings. Dog and cat’s are both great. I would never send a cat to heard in some sheep, and I would never use a dog to catch a rat.

Actually, Instinct, some dogs are great ratters. The rat terrier, the jack russell, and of course those short legged dauchshounds can get the job done.

I agree that Jamie must be at the wrong site if she thinks cats arent as worthy as dogs.

Watch out, the fur is about to fly…….Don’t make Jango sad!

I’m re-posting my post from yesterday in case anyone may have missed it…

Hello everyone! After calling many animal shelters and rescue groups near Jerry’s (Chester) home of Nebo, North Carolina, I have found a grassroots organization that I hope you will be as happy with as I am. It is called Burke County Friends For Animals located in Morganton, NC, which is about 14 miles (22K) from where Jerry lived. Nebo is a very small town so I searched for the closest shelter with the best qualities. I believe I found it. I spoke to Toni Davis. She and her husband started this outfit over 10 years ago in their backyard. Today, they have between 120-140 adoptable cats and dogs awaiting homes each day. To date, over 9,500 animals have been adopted through the Friends For Animals. Her husband is the cruelty investigator with their organization. I jokingly told her that I would be very scared if he came to my door. She laughed and said that he has put many animal abusers in jail. Please click on the link to read more information about Friends For Animals and to see photos of the cats and dogs awaiting homes.

    http://www.burkecountyfriends4animals.org/index.htm

Toni said that they have set up memorial funds for people (and animals) in the past. They set up one for a teen-aged boy a few weeks ago. I asked if once our memorial contributions were received, a designated area could be set up in memory of our friend, Jerry. She suggested that one of the catteries could be designated as “Jerry’s Place” or “Chester’s Place.” She will send photos once it is finished. Jerry would love that, don’t you think?

I asked Toni if they made their finances public and she replied, “Absolutely.” I also checked if the BBB had received any complaints concerning them within the realm of non-profit organizations and nothing was listed. She also received a recent visit from the state of North Carolina’s Agricultural Department who gave the facility a sterling review and said they wished every facility was kept up as well. She tells her staff that “cleanliness is next to Godliness.” They are working on taking photos of the inside of the facility to post on their website, as well.

Toni said that the easiest way to set up a memorial fund for Jerry would be to send a check or money order to their post office box (address located at bottom of home page). And please remember to include both on your check/money order and envelope that your donation is in memory of Jerry Smith from Nebo, North Carolina. She will then send a card/letter to Jerry’s mother, with whom he was living, informing her of the many people who contributed to her son’s memorial fund. I think Jerry’s family will be very touched by the outpouring of love we had for him.

And I swear, knowing Jerry’s sense of humor, I can imagine him saying, “I always wanted to spend time in a cathouse!”

In Jerry’s words: “Remember the good times and the mischief.”

    We will, Chester, we will.

How truly sad for you, Terri, and how nice to see so many of your friends here helping you to celebrate this little fella’s life. There is no sickness or despair in Heaven, and we must always hold on to that. Your kitten’s entire little life was and is filled with love.

It’s sad, isn’t it, that so many animals roam the streets or wait in shelters, never knowing the bond of human love. I guess it’s up to this group, and others that form through their love for animals, to do our seemingly small part to help them. I think every hand that reaches out sends up a tiny beam of light, and thus our work is known in Heaven. You’re sending up a very special beam of light, Terri. You are truly blessed. ~Jo
