CharlieThis is Charlie, a couple of days after we brought him home from the humane society, over a year ago. His favorite thing to do back then was chase after the tail of our very patient Yellow Lab Emma. Now they are best friends and Charlie’s favorite place to sleep in on top of Emma’s head when she is sleeping.

    Sammy’s mom,
Catster is a place where you can post your adult cats. It is free as far as I know. You can post pics and short bio’s of your darling kitties for everyone to see. That is why some of the names on tdk are in pink, it links you to catster, to see their kitties.

aww what a cutie, looks just like my tiger Cat as a kitten. Rocky just came from check up at the vets, doing good. Vet is totally amazed he is doing so well, miricles do happen and Rocky’s recovery is one. Vet said not to worry to much about the slow weight gain his body is healing its self first then he will start gaining weight. Rocky is now off all meds but I am to keep very close eye on him for reoccurance of symptoms. Thanks so very much to everyone here for all your prayers and healing thoughts to my Rocky.

it was a bacterial infection that settled in his liver, how he got exposed still have no idea. Rocky is indoor only and I live in a rural area and have very few visitors only family and when he started getting sick I was in Fresno and only my uncle was in the house caring for the animals. my uncle has 2 cats and they are not sick there his babies spoiled rotten.

It’s true that half of healing is mental, and your visits and love probably were just what was needed to keep Rocky on this side of life. I’m sure your vet now believes, if he didn’t before, that love is very strong medicine indeed.

Good morning to all you sweet wonderful friends and animal lovers. Hope your Saturday is wonderful. We are having a beautiful string of perfect summer days here. Sunny, not hot, not humid, just perfect.

I am getting over the worst of the grief. Still cry if I talk about Himmi, and its hard not to look for him on my patio, and I just can’t stand to look up the street right now because I keep seeing his image laying there. Was dreaming weird rescuing cat dreams last night. And, I will get that evil woman gone before she can do much more inhumane work.

ANNCETERA. Read your post about the 3 kittens feeding. In the wild at 7 -8 weeks they will still nurse, in fact my 7 week olds are still nursing and they are eating solid food too. Momma cat will be feeding them some of whatever she can kill, so I’m pretty sure they can eat solid food along with the nursing. When you set the trap make sure it is done when you can monitor it. I have at times had to scare the babies out when one would be close to the trigger and another at the entrance. If that thing slams down on a babe it could get injured. Best to monitor.

At that young age if you get a toy on a string or feather boa on a rod type toy you may be able to lure the babes close enough to catch. Wear gloves. Another idea is to have an open carrier and stay beside it with the toy so you can wiggle it inside for them to see. They may go in to play and just close the door. Since momma is coming so close your chances of getting the kits is really really good.

Thank you for the info! The trick on this has to do with catching all 3, in such a way that if one of them isn’t caught, I haven’t scared them off so hard that they won’t come back for days.

I agree with monitoring the traps. I have to be there when they get sprung; I really don’t want one of the little ones getting hurt by the trapdoor.

I’ve placed one of the carriers north of the house, where they tend to play and nurse in the evenings. I will place food in it this evening.

I’m patient. I want to catch them soon. But I want to do this right. If worse came to worse, I could just drop a net on Mama when she’s feeding, but yowtch! I’m concerned about likely injuries to kittens and mother when Mama panics and tries to escape. And even though they’d be in it only briefly, that would still be fairly traumatic.

Thank you so much for the encouragement! I really appreciate it, especially considering all the pain you’ve been experiencing. You and your rescue efforts are very much in my mind.

I like Pierce too, but he is too young for me. I would rather cozy up with Tom Selleck or Sean Connery. I think they have maintained their looks and sex appeal as they aged. I also like Paul Newman but one of my great aunts on the Newman side told me he was a relative. My Newman ancestors were Scot/Irish and I think Paul’s family was Jewish(maybe it was his mothers side) so not sure.

It is almost 4:00 here so you are probably already watching the movie. Can’t remember how many hours you are ahead of the east coast of the USA.

    –Happy,Happy news today–

We had a slight emergency yesterday. One of my feral mamas(Tortie Pretty Girl, did something stupid. In trying to hide her newbies, she dropped two of them in one of the electrical pedestals in the neighbors yard behind us. I guess she was trying to move them closer to me & the food. It was close to 100 degrees outside. They were so far down we couldn’t reach them. The wire coming out of it were ‘Live’. We found one generous soul from P,G & E that helped us get them out. I got stung 4 times by wasps, but it was worth it. He had to cut the live wires to do it. So 2 of her 5 babies are safe. Large litter for her 1st & hopefully last. She has the other 3 where we can’t reach them yet under a shed. As soon as the man got them out,my neighbor shot them w/liquids cuz they were so dehydrated. They’re not happy w/out mama, but they’re safe & healthy.

*Happy ending* so far,so anncetera & Elene,Keep On Pluggin away! The good feelings we get are worth it!

    :P

Susie, headbonks to you for caring and injuring yourself! It’s amazing what we do for these babies—-I had to chase Patches at 5 1/2 weeks old for 45 minutes before I caught her in my yard. She kept going into my rose garden (she was born in it) and after it was all over I was covered in scratches and bleeding from the thorns. We are TRUE cat people here on this site. Bless you Kittenmaster for bringing us together!

    –Thanks Sheba’s Mom–

It’s funny the adrenalin rush you suddenly get when you realize your in a spot of ‘Now or Never’ & know you have to go for it & think about the injuries later

These little furballs would have died if I hadn’t heard them cry. God was watching over them by putting me in the right place-right time.

BTW-rose bush thorns can be as painful as wasp stings. So I know how you felt. I’m sore from jumping over the 6 ft. fence to get everything we needed to get them out. I must’ve hopped it 30 times. I’m way too old for that anymore. Even my butt muscles are sore. sorry if I embarrassed you w/that last comment.

Susie - Great news. So sorry you were stung and probably very hot and tired from the stress. Heart stopping isn’t it. I often wonder how many times our hearts can stop when about to get one of the babes into a trap or hand.

How old are Pretty Girl’s babes? If they are under the shed do they come out to play yet? When one of my rescued litters was under my house I took a chair, gloves, carriers, toys and delicious smelly cat food and camped there for hours in the hot July sun. Well worth it because my “Hole in the Wall Gang” are living the good life now. Once you get one in a carrier and it cries the others seem to come out quickly because of their natural curiosity. If there are many exits from under the shed maybe you could block the areas you can’t monitor.

Can’t wait to hear that you have the remaining 3 and Pretty Girl in safety. Won’t it be great if you and Athena catch all by the end of the weekend. Think how warm and fuzzy you both will feel.

Thank goodness in most areas of the country kitten season is almost over. Now is the time to concentrate on the spay/neuter of all adults so that there won’t be a kitten season next year.

Mom to Tiga - You are so very right. I usually try tp take momma cat and her babes at the same time for the procedures at about 3 months. It depends on whether she is with the babies or still part of the colony. No cat around here will ever have a litter or never more than one if she is new to the area.
