Could we share the Slimfast? I’m having trouble with a wisdom tooth I was too cheap to have pulled out when I should have. Second day in a row, now. If my brother wasn’t coming for a visit i a few days for a couple of weeks, I’d go have it yanked. Ouch!

miu and Great Dane, yes I do have the Demerol and this IS the result of a wisdom tooth I should have had pulled out years ago.

All 4 are impacted (well actually 3, one actually came in about 3 years ago - I got my first wisdom tooth at 44 - LOL). I have to have them surgically removed, but I’m going to go into the rest room with some peroxide and hot water and see if I can fix it myself (which is what I usually do).

I need all 4 of my wisdom teeth out, the sooner the better. NOT lookink forward to that!

HM and GD: I’m sure you’ve heard lots of horror stories about getting your wisdom teeth pulled–but just an anecdotal story here–I had all 4 of my impacted wisdom teeth removed at the same time in my early 20’s without any pain whatsoever–I was eating solid foods that night–dentists say that not everyone has pain upon removal–so maybe you could be pain-free, too!

What is it with teeth this week? I’ve been having some pain, too. Although I think the one is due to possibly a popcorn hull, the other one is a cap, and I don’t know what to do about it. Have been using Wal-Mart equivalent of Anbesol and hoping for the best.

Here’s hoping you all are feeling better real soon.

I know I usually lurk around here watching everyone abscond with cute little kitties. I just want to give my two cents worth on the wisdom teeth. Get all four of them done at once, take lots of pain meds for a couple of days, and you will be fine.

As a former Dental Assit. the teeth cannot be pulled while you have an abcess. Novocaine will not take effect with the abcess. You have to take antibiotics until the sweeling is gone usual time for script is ten days. Even with sodium penathol or gas a dentist does not like to do it as the poisons will drain into your body.

    2007-07-06 22:10:41

I remember that waiting for the antibiotics to do their thing was the most painful week or so I ever spent. Compared to that, there was almost no pain after the dental surgery.

    [+] Comment by Fogfoot [p]
    2007-07-06 22:17:01

I waited too long to get all of mine done, and the pain of the impactions far outstripped the pain of the surgery. I say go for it.

Huddy’s Mama and Great Dane :
I agree with everyone here. I would just go for it when the abcess is gone. I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled and 2 that needed to be surgically removed. I had more pain with the teeth that were pulled. I was also eating solid foods the same night both times. I was eating carrot sticks the next day both times, too. (I popped out my stitches, but had no pain at all.)

Do you remember when Ann Margaret fell from a high platform in Vegas? She had her jaws wired shut and had to have facial reconstruction. Her hubby, Roger Smith from the TV show 77 Sunset Strip (late 50’s) put EVERYTHING in the blender meat potatoes, pizza the works. It probably looked disgusting but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.

I get the funny feeling that this site ruins many people’s diets. Like I once read that watching “The Golden Girls” caused a few people to gain weight due to the midnight cheesecake binges they had on the show putting ideas into their heads. Sometimes the temptation is too great.

I brought the non-fat yogurt smoothies! with your choice of cream liquors, of course.

I have to disagree with this. It’s important for everybody to remember that nobody is holding a gun to your head and making you eat that cheesecake. The world would be a better place if we all stopped blaming other people for our problems and failures and started looking for the answers within.

Andi is an american contraction of a female’s name, so Andi is posting as a female. Andy would be the american spelling of the male contraction. As for lighten up, it’s an American expression, meaning ‘don’t get your panties in a bunch’, or ‘relax’. There’s no malice in the phrase. It’s like saying ‘cheer up’, or ‘there’s no offence meant”. Hope this helps your vocab in American slang.

AMEN to that! Scrappy is an adorable kitten and looks like a million bucks!

A friend of mine also had a kitten named Scrappy that grew to become a beautiful cat. My friend, Sadie, named her that, because she didn’t take nothing off of nobody!

Scrappy looks like a Siamese/Tabby mix, with the most beautiful blue eyes you ever saw!

When Hurricane Rita struck the Lake Charles area back in 2005, Sadie evacuated to her ex-husband’s home in Arkansas. To make a very long story short, they remarried after 21 years.

Neat, except for the fact that her husband was allergic to cats. Sadie asked me if I could take in Scrappy, and two other cats, Goto and Sweety, too.

I said, “Yes!” of course. Hey — what are friends for?

Scrappy still lives up to her name. She can be lovable to me, then turn her head and immediately HISS at another cat, then turn back around and be lovable to me once again.

    She’s wacky like that!

What a lucky little kitten! Roadside kittens have a nearly vertical learning curve, when it comes to learning about roadways. The lesson has a pretty much pass/fail grade, with failure being fatal.

    Rescue updates:
Injured feral showed up this morning, but showed little interest in the dry food or water I presented to him. He’s putting minimal weight on his left front leg, and has scabs crisscrossing his head. He obviously got into a fight, his first since having one canine extracted, and it’s possible he found himself at some disadvantage in the dustup.

Damned if I do, damned if I don’t. His tooth was broken, with an exposed nerve. It had to have been painful; extracting it was the right thing to do. But now he’s more beat up than ever. Sigh. As soon as the amoxicillin arrives, I’ll be dosing the water for the outdoor cats, and seeing if he’ll eat medicated wet food (when he decides to show up).

No new kitten pictures yet, but they’re becoming less and less wary of me. I’m able to stroke each of them repeatedly while they’re eating; they’re all licking food from my fingertips, and taking food from my open palm or pinched fingertips. The black kitten is getting accustomed to being picked up and set down, as in transferring him from the chair to the floor; he’s no longer struggling as long as the transfer is brief. They’re all playing within a foot or so of my head, when I’m sitting down right in front of the easy chair, and they all ate within 18 inches of my face last night.

Tonight, I’ll bring them different toys and slightly different food, and I’ll spend some extra time in there with the laptop and camera. My challenge this weekend? To get them more accustomed to being handled, and to be unafraid of human hands (while not playing directly with my hands).

Today, the improvisation for the hot weather is a folded, damp towel lying on top of a Rubbermaid tote lid, on the floor of the room. Windows are open, fans are going gangbusters, too; their room has not been uncomfortably hot yet. The grey tabby kitten laid down on the towel when I laid it down.

The heat isn’t so bad here yet, and I live in an old masonry farmhouse, well-designed to shrug off all but the very worst of summer heat. (I’ve found ranches and split levels are not designed in this manner.) Fans help a lot. I don’t turn on the A/C until it’s 90-95 degrees, depending on the humidity.
