Yogi
Location: Harwood, Maryland, USA
This is Yogi at 26 days old. His mother was a rescued kitty that we adopted six days before Yogi and his five brothers and sisters were born. We had to call one of the kittens “Yogi” because they were born on May 12th - Yogi Berra’s birthday. All the kittens are beautiful, but Yogi is the biggest and mostly the first to do everything. We have homes for several of the kits, but we are keeping Yogi!184 Comments »

Hi! Made this movie for you guys!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZH1hUUd218
Enjoy!!!
Teresita, that is a beautiful video. Thanks for your tribute to those who rescue felines!
yeah
Teresita - Wonderfully done! Thank you for this sweet tribute, and all the effort you put in to the making of this video.
That was great!! Chucky thought I’d gone bonkers as I laughed a few time during it! ” Oh yea she’s lost it!!”
What a great tribute! I recognized some pics, and some I even have on my continuously changing desktop.
Thanks ever so much.
Beautifully done !!!!!
thanks! i really enjoyed it.
POUNCE
Pounce!!
Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
Can’t get more american than Yogi Berra
This little Yogi is snuggly cute! Maybe when he grows up he’ll come up with some more “Yogi-isms”. Here are a few chuckles by the one and only Yogi Berra:
When you come to a fork in the road-take it.
I didn’t really say everything I said.
The future ain’t what it used to be.
It gets late early out there.
And one that little Yogi might say–
I usually take a 2 hour nap from one to four!!
“No one goes there any more, it’s too crowded.”
When then-New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller’s wife complimented Yogi on the “cool-looking” suit he was wearing, Yogi replied, “Thanks. You don’t look so hot yourself.”
All kidding aside, Berra has the record for winning 10 World Series championships with the Yankees.
I like the white paws.
Aww, fluffier than the average kitten.
He’s adorable - little white mittens and socks! **Smooch** those kitty feet…
Happy 4th of July to everyone!
Yogi is a cutie fur sure, love his face and paws.
Sad to read this, makes it harder on cats and their owners…

Thanks for all the suggestions yesterday/last night about my mother, have already moved her out before and as soon as I left sadly she went back because that is all she has ever known. Yes, he is an emotional/mental abuser and he won’t change. Hated to vent yesterday, but good to know that I can here. Thanks TDK’ers.
Hope that everyone has a good day, enjoy your families whether 2 or 4 legged, and remember to Keep It Fluffy
Happy 4th to you AZDeb. I’m glad you vented here yesterday. Even though there may not be any real solution to our troubles, it is nice to be able to talk about them and feel supported–something TDKers do well!
I was totally annoyed by that study. Next thing Big Brother will say we can’t have cats.
yes I found this story quite disturbing as well. Honestly I think it is very slanted. They don’t give much information either. Different types of cats have different dander and some are historically less likely to trigger allergies. Also, they didn’t specify indoor or outdoor cats. Cats that go outdoors pick up other allergens in their fur. It really ticks me off that they do not give alternative options to getting rid of a beloved pet. They also do not even touch on options of desensitizing. Studies have shown time and time again that children are less likely to suffer from asthma and allergies when they are raised around animals. People have had cats in their homes for centuries. Maybe the problem is not the cats, but the over sterilization of the world around us. Compromised immune systems will not work effectively.
I’m glad you vented, too, AZDeb. We all do, and it’s good to have a place where we can go and do that. — I was mentally and emotionally abused by an alcoholic husband for 10 years. I personally know what your Mom is going through. After I’d finally had ENOUGH — and divorced him, I became active in volunteering at SAFE shelters and homeless shelters, because I was so thankful just to be able to get up and have my feet hit the floor without being nauseous and anxious because of the uphilll battle everyday, and I wanted to help others get to that point. Not many do, sadly. Did you know that physically abused women will go back to the abuser on average 7 times — if they live that long, and some don’t — before they finally leave for good.
Since God tells us we should give thanks in ALL things, let’s give thanks that your Mom isn’t physically abused, and that she is surrounded by loved ones who are aware of her situation and love her even more for it. Happy 4th, AZDeb!
I’m glad there’s a safe place for us all to vent as needed–wish (how we all wish) your situation was a happier, safer one.
A happy and safe Fourth to all!
Just read your post yesterday. I am sorry your and your mother have had to deal with someone so bent on controling and hurting you. I really feel sick pity for him–really must hate himself to do what he does. But my prayers are for you and your mom to know the peace and love of all animals–even when they may not be around long. I truly wish your mom could be with you in a healthy and loving environment. Amazing you both have loving hearts and he hasn’t damaged that.
People are like stained glass windows: they sparkle and shine when the sun’s out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is light within.
Elizabeth Kubler-Ross
AZDeb you have the heart of the most beautiful stained glass window–don’t forget that.
That’s a beautiful quote, Sox’s Mom.
It ain’t over till it’s over FUZZ
Happy 4th.
What a cutie! The first thing I thought of when I saw him was Yabba Dabba Doooo!
Happy 4th!
Happy 4th to everyone!

Yogi is a cutie with that face & little white tipped paws.
ciao everyone
Happy 4th of July! Today is such an awesome day. Both good news and bad. I found out I have a job! I posted late last night and some nocturnal feline friends saw it. Thank you! See Ange I told you we will both have something by the beginning of school–be patient the right position is coming your way too. But my best friend’s baby is in trouble. Find out today whether the pregnancy is viable. After 13 years this was the most celebrated child ever. She needs prayer.
Have a wonderful day!
Congratulations on the job! And best thoughts for your friend’s difficult situation.
Prayers and hugs for you and your best friend.
I said a prayer for your friend and her baby. I know it is God’s will but no harm and asking for her to have a happy healthy baby. Ask and ye shall recieve keep your mouth shut and you don’t get anything!
Thank you Susan. The baby hasn’t survived. No spinal cord growth. The Drs. are ending the pregnancy on Friday. I wish I could easy her loss but now she will have to have time to grieve. You are so right–have to ask to have a prayer answered. Thank you for yours!
I’m so sorry; your best friend has my condolences.
I am so sorry that the baby was not to be. Yes, she will grieve and she sould have the same comfort as if it was a full term birth. How far along was she? I hope they name the babe and remember the child.
I am sorry for your friend’s loss. My deepest thoughts and prayers.
Oh, sweetie, I am so sorry. This is a very sad time for both of you, and y\You and your friend are both in my prayers.
Please remember that God always answers our prayers, and He never says, “No.” He says, “Yes,” or He says, “In a while.”
And sometimes He tells us, “I have a better plan.”
I am very sorry for your friend. Sounds like that child was a much loved and yearned.
Do you know if chromosome tests have been made? Maybe she can give all that love to a furry or furless baby needing a loving home.
I wish the best for her.
Prayers for your Job! way to go!!
prayers for your friend and the baby!
Have a happy 4th!!
I will pray for your friend’s child. I understand the fear, I waited 14 years for my son. As my doctor noted on the record “Premium Baby”.
Her pregnancy is being ended due to no spinal cord growth. I told her what you said and she is now beginning to understand there are many that go through this. She said thank you for giving her hope for the next pregnancy to work.
Sox’s Mom
I am so sorry! But the lord does have a plane for her
Peace
D
Sorry to hear about your friend’s pregnancy. She is lucky to have you as a support person.
Congrats. Sox’s Mom! Hopefully, you’ll love middle school as much as I do. I originally wanted to teach high school, but started in the middle school setting. I was called last week about an opening at a high school, but I will never leave middle school! Again, congrats!
I have only taught in preschool and then high school so this is different. I am really looking forward to this wonderful opportunity! I am ready for them. 7th grade here I am! I sure could use any advice you feel like sharing!
E-mail me at smeryl at yahoo dot com, anytime!
I teach 7th and 8th graders now. . .I think 6th grade is the purrfect grade (a little bit dependent on you but becoming more independent), then 7th, then 8th. By the end of 8th grade, they think they know it all, so I’d hate to deal with them in high school!
Congrats Sox’s Mom. I am keeping positive and patient. I’ve also decided if it’s not this August then I will sub. No biggie.
I will say a prayer for the child and her family.
Happy 4th everyone. I will be gone until late tomorrow night, but I wanted to pop in and say Hi. Have a wonderful 4th.
Ange
I have subbed too and I loved that as well. There is still time before the beginning of school. It will happen. I am praying for you to get the offer that will be the best ever. Thank you for the prayers–they are so appreciated.
I received my very first job offer the 2nd day the school year started (for the teachers). . .most districts give employees so many days before the beginning of the year before they have to resign their positions, so many won’t even know what positions to fill until at least mid-July. The only jobs they’re filling right now are for positions where teachers have permanently retired or told their principals ahead of time that they’re leaving. You’ll get a job–I just know it!
Congratulations on the job! And sending lots of hugs and positive energy to your friend and her baby.
So glad to hear you found the type of teaching position you wanted. Your friend will be in my prayers.
Yogi… what a cutie!
Injured feral came around this morning, and ate and drank just fine. His cheek was still slightly swollen, but NOTHING like the other day. He was also limping somewhat, but not so badly that he wouldn’t walk away after his meal. The other ferals are doing a fine job of guarding the front porch, in between their naps in the sunshine.
Mama kitty and kittens are doing fine. I’m reducing the food available to them when I’m not there, and have gotten them all a little more used to people talking, and playing near my face when I’m lying on the ground. They’re also getting more used to my hands, but that’s a slow process. I’m thinking coating my hands with plain yogurt could help with that.
you coating your hands with a fine milk chocolate would work for me (giggle, giggle)…
or maybe i should coat pierce brosnan’s hands in cocolate…
Okay, cool; only two posts before this turned into something perv.
You realize that I won’t be able to keep a straight face now, when the kittens are licking the yogurt off?
I bet you never have a straight face when you are any where around those little fuzz butts! Never mind the yougurt!
Actually, believe it or not, I usually do have a straight face. They’re still scared enough of people that staring at them or baring my teeth are taken as threatening gestures.
I’d gladly coat my body in chocolate if George Clooney was around.
I would coat my body in anything he asked for mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
George
*throws bucket of ice water on Cheri, FondaHonda and Brandi Lee*
I would even coat my body in LARD if Georgey Boy wanted me to. . .see, I am willing to give in a relationship!
JCL
Naughty, naughty!
Okay — yes — I have an actress in mind, but I won’t reveal her name. After all, I’m a Southern Gentleman, and as such I won’t “fantasize-and-tell”! Although it does involve Hershey bars.
Okay — I’m going to take a shower now — a long, cold, cold shower!
Okay, all y’all can take those thoughts and keep them a little closer to yourselves!
The yogurt on fingertips trick worked for 2 out of 3 kittens, as well as Mama kitty. And I found the best way to keep them all calm while fireworks were going off everywhere in my neighborhood (where fireworks are illegal, naturally), was to play back a recording of purring. If you click on my name, then go to purr4.wav, you’ll hear the sound that soothed both Mama kitty and her kittens.
Glad to hear your strategy worked, anncetera! I went to the cat sounds website. My furry child, Digit, jumped up to see where all the purring was coming from.
Happy 4th July, from me and Floss (the Boss) - just to prove we English aren’t bad losers.
I love Yogi’s little white mittens. This site makes me wish for a kitten - Flossie was a rescue cat from the RSPCA, and had had kittens of her own. But I think I have enough to do, waiting on Flossie hand and foot
Flossie’s housekeeper~Believe me, I know that the Yorkshire folk are friendly - my husband is from the south too, so we are BOTH foreigners here, even though we’ve been here almost 12 years! I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else in England. We’ve lived in 3 of the 4 Yorkshire Ridings in that 12 years…sorry, this is off topic, so I must mention that we have 5 lovely British kitties!
Hi Judi - I am also an American living over here in the UK. I miss celebrating the 4th of July as well Fireworks on Bonfire Night (Nov 5) are just not quite the same!
Unfortunately, I live in Oxfordshire - a rather long way from Yorkshire! Lovely up there - would love to get back up there one of these days! Let me know if you’re ever down this way!

5!!!! I find one exhausting enough! Are they Yorkshire kitties? Flossie came from Harrogate, and George from Rotherham. Both rescued by the RSPCA.
Yes, all Yorkshire kitties…let’s see…Petra Scamp Pretzel and Marblecame to us in Hull, (East Yorks), Hobbes from Malton in North Yorkshire(but we were still living in Hull!) Petra is a Cats Protection rescue, Scamp & Pretzel are’pet shop’ rescues and Marble was taken in by us because my co-worker who found her and was feeding her had children who were allergic. Yes they are a handful, but I love them to bits!
Thank you for the 4th of July salutation, Flossie’s housekeeper. My hat is off to the Brits, our good friends across the pond! HERE, HERE!!
In reply, I think you should celebrate Oak Apple Day ….
Tell me more!!
