This is Lexi, she is a beautiful little girl! We got her four weeks ago at a shelter when she was 10 weeks old. She is a wonderful addition to our family. Very sweet and loving and loves to give lots of kisses. I can truely say she has the best personality of any kitten I have ever owned. I hope she will be with our family for many years to come!

Hey everyone, hope today is a Fabulous Friday and not a Freaky Friday. I have a request for all the Colorado area TDKers from the lady who graciously gave us our Miss Kitty Thumbelina. She’s concerned that two babies may not find a home. Please spread the word. Every ad like this I see stirs all my rescue instincts.

I wonder about people moving and not taking their furr family along.
I can’t even imagine doing that to any of my gang. Sure hope the poor throwaways get a loving home before the 20th.

2007-08-10 16:01:13

Elene, I see these ads and it just “tans my hide”!! I mean, if you adopt a cat, you adopt it for life. If I ever want to move, the place must accept cats. Sheesh. These types of people should be asked when thinking of adopting a pet - “if you found the most beautiful wonderful place to live and the rent is very reasonable, etc. but you cannot keep your cat what would you do”. If they answer with oh we will put up give our cat/dog away for it….they should never be allowed to adopt. It is a life long committment.

Okay…getting off of soapbox. Need fluffiness.

TGIF everyone! Yippee and happy birthday to all whose b-day it is today. I hope it is filled with warm memories and that it is an extra special day and for Debster and I - happy birthday tomorrow. Chocolate cake with chocolate cream cheese frosting for us. Yum!

Most rescue groups do ask questions on their adoption applications. Like: will the cat be declawed, neutered, what happens if you move, do you have children and the ages, are there other pets, vets name and number, landlords name and number. All references are checked. We also get to know the people during a few visits.

Hey everyone! Man things have been nuts! How’s everyone? I had to mention that when I was thinking of moving out of state my mom couldn’t understand why I was taking my cats with me! I was dumbfounded! She insisted that cats didn’t really need people, we were just convienient and that they get along without us. That my sister’s husband put a 13 year old cat out because he was getting new furniture. (I never liked that man!) My mom went on to say that it came around for a while then just stoped- so it was fine. Can you believe that?! I couldn’t believe I what I was hearing! Some people are so ignorant and I am ashamed they live in my family!! Well, back to the coal mines- I don’t always have time to read or comment but I’m by here everyday. Have a great weekend everyone!

Received this some time ago. It is a joke—but

Rescue Help Needed ASAP!!

Please help! After two long years of being on a waiting list for an
exotic rare breed dog, we were finally notified by the breeder that
at long last, our number has come up, and… WE’RE HAVING A PUPPY!

We must IMMEDIATELY get rid of our children now, because we just
KNOW how time consuming our new little puppy is going to be! Since
our puppy will be arriving on Monday, we MUST place the children in
new homes this weekend!!! Please, someone adopt them, we don’t want
to take them to a shelter where they will be euthanized!

They are described as:

* One male, white, blonde hair, blue eyes. Four years old. Excellent
disposition. He doesn’t bite. Name is Tommy. Temperament tested.
Current on all shots. Tonsils removed already and very healthy
condition! Tommy eats everything, is very clean, house trained and
gets along well with others. Does not run with scissors and with a
little time and training, he will do well in a new home.

* One female, strawberry blonde hair, green eyes. Three years old.
Can be surly at times. Non-biter, thumb sucker. Her name is Mary.
Temperament tested, but needs a little attitude adjusting
occasionally. She is current on all shots, tonsils out, and is very
healthy and happy (mostly.) Gets along well with little boys, but
does not like to share toys. She is house trained, and would do best
in a one child household.

We really LOVE our children, and want to do what is best for them. I
hope you understand, that ours is a UNIQUE situation, and we have a
real emergency here! They MUST be placed by Sunday night at the
latest.

I always ask the guy I am dating if he likes cats. If he hesitates, the relationship won’t last much longer than that first date. Fortunately, my current man said he never had cats but liked animals. Now he is definetly a cat lover and can’t imagine his life without them.

MerD, our former neighbors adopted a kitty from our vet and had her nearly a year before begging us to take her. The woman “produced” and 11 yr old son no one knew she had…mainly because she abandoned him in an alcholic haze and he was raised by another family. But he was her property and she wanted him back. But he was allergic to the cat so the cat had to go. We took her. Some months later we let the little boy feed the cats before our sitters could arrive. Obviously the cat was her property too and they stole her back before our plane was off the ground. They even threatened to shoot our sitters when they asked for her back! Fortunately we had a very astute judge. Now she warms her daddy’s lap nightly. And will continue to do so until time comes to an end. And that’s exactly how it should be.

I have some neighbors who seem to think that pets are disposable. It really makes me sick.
When they moved from the apartment across the street to the one in front of me, they had one of their dogs put to sleep because, “one person wanted to adopt him but nobody would know how to take care of him with all of his medical problems”. The dog had a bad eye and needed medicine for some other condition. Still, he was fairly healthy with only a slight problem with aggression toward people. Their other dog was put to sleep because of a heart problem. They adopted other dogs but each dog had some sort of problem — one peed all over the place, one played too rough with the cats, one barked too much etc… From what I can tell, they don’t seem to want to put too much effort into training pets.
Every time I see them with a new dog, I can’t help but wonder how long this one will be there before it is returned to the animal rescue. They wonder why I am never excited when they get a new pet. *shakes head*
They go through cats just as quickly. One cat that they had for over two years was sent to the animal rescue because it was too rough with the new kitten. Before they sent that one away they had told me that if anything happened to them, they wanted the cat put to sleep because, “it’s an indoor cat only and nobody will take care of it right and feed it the food that it is used to.”
They now foster cats and kittens which I think is far better than trying to give an animal a forever home because of their attitude.

2007-08-10 23:35:34

Hmm. Owlwatcher maybe someone needs to say to them that when the people get older, maybe wet their pants, snore too loudly, eat too much, fart/belch too much etc. that they should be put to sleep too. Sheesh, those people need to be told that they should not have anymore pets. Animals are not entertainers.

I have actually made arrangements that if anything happens to me that my family knows to take care of my animals. That my animals lives should remain as normal as possible even if I am not with them. And I honestly believe that they would do everything possible to honor that wish because they know how much my babies mean to me!

2007-08-10 21:03:18

I’ve done the same with my animals. My family has assured me that if anything happens to me, that they would stay in the family and have great homes.

Another lovely habit that some people have is getting a puppy or kitten and then getting rid of it when it’s no longer little. That angers me to no end! My little sister’s mother has gotten rid of 5 dogs. . .I have to bite my tongue every time she mentions animals!
