Roxy and Dublin

Dublin and Roxy were found in a bag in a box in a dumpster in Brooklyn and were spotted by an observant and humane building super. This is them finally resting after a week moving into our home! We were lucky enough to adopt these two rescues at about five weeks and named them after bars we used to go to here in New York! Now a year and half later they are big lumbering beasts but still kittens at heart.

Pounce! Pounce! Pounce! Wow—stressing
out right now, and needed to view the kitties on
TDK to chill out and put things in perspective.
Whew—now I must work and envision cute kitties
when I feel like quitting!!!

I hear ya, FondaHonda.

It also helps that these babies have a happy ending to their story.

2007-08-30 15:14:10

FondaHonda, here is some chocolate and a frozen mocha latte with extra whipped cream. Hugs too. I hope the day gets better. Hang on the weekend is coming!

With their fur all blended together they look like a two headed kitten! So tiny and sweet.

FH, HM and Great Dane (GD just doesn’t seem right) I have bacon, lattes, chocolate croissants, fresh squeezed juice, eggs cooked to order and mimosas.

Ha Ha - my first thought was that we had a 2-headed kitty, too! What sweet little babies!
* Accepts some scrambled eggs, a chocolate croissant and a mimosa, and wanders over to the sharing circle to cuddle with the little cuties. *

I’m so used to fixing breakfast, it’s been a while since I actually sat down to have breakfast. Oh, yeah, may I have my organic free-range eggs scrambled with Havarti and dill and a couple of slices of bacon before Huddy’s Mama injects the bacon directly into her bloodstream?

Thanks, ppearson!

I will have what HM is having with crispy bacon and a nice iced mocha. Yum. We are having temps in the 80’s in my area. I am missing the fog already. Inland is 100. Poor Susie and her kits!!

2007-08-30 17:02:30

It was 104 degrees a couple of weeks ago and I went to Starbucks for the ever-favorite Raspberry Mocha (Vente, of course!). It was so dag-gum hot I thought I’d try one of their new Raspberry Mocha Frappacinos. I am proud to say that I now have a new addiction!

You mentioned 100 degrees in above post?

Try 106 in the shade yesterday. Uggghhhh!
I couldn’t check the mail until like 10 o’clock last night because it was too warm to go outside.
It’s ironic…we’re about 100 feet from the river & can’t cool off in it. I wouldn’t eat the fish out of it let alone swim in it. Between the flood of ‘97 washing things down & the pigs that think the river is their own personal dumping ground,The water running down it is questionable. Wish I had your cooler breeze right now. :(

Here I am, ppearson - ready for LOADS of lattes (a chocolate croissant sounds great, too!). Work is insane! I had to stay at work til seven thirty last night to finish something. I got home and after a while the power in the whole neighborhood went out. (Don’t know why, the weather was fine). I went to bed and was woken up when the power, light, TV and several fans came back on! Then boss called and woke me up at 6:27 AM! Arrrgh! He was going to be out of the office and out od cellphone reach, so he wanted to discuss something very important before he lost the connection!
I’m TIRED! And I’m dog-sitting again and biking all over town!
Please, ppearson, I know I’m late, but I’m hoping ther’s still coffee left for me! (and by the way, I wasn’t too busy to get in my 5 votes for the Gimpster! - and Bob!)

What the hell is wrong with people who would “throw away’ living things? In the Press Enterprise, the Bloomsburg PA paper one of the front page stories the other day was about a guy in his 20’s who chewed the ears off a kitten he had. He also filed the kittens fangs down himself. When the animal control officer saw the cat, (his live in gf’s mother reported him) the kitten could not stand and had a massive infection. It also had a huge open gash between it’s eyes. This jackass said he didn’t know you had to take an animal to the vets to have the teeth filed down?????????? How stupid is THAT? He also said he was playing and that’s how the cats ears got chewed. At this point I am now wondering about the human race in general. Is this what’s reproducing now? God help us. The gf defended this headcase. She said he was innocent of all the stuff and didn’t know how the kitten got the gash & infection. The gf’s mother also said he killed 2 other cats. Hopefully these two won’t ever reproduce and have a baby. God only knows what kind of moron will be produced from such a union. The animal control officer said she pressed charges and the hearing is Sept 10. She is hoping that they never are allowed to own ANY animal again. I am keeping an eye on this story and intend to voice MY opinion on this, in the papers opinion colum via email @ sachetti@pressenterprise.net

OMG, OMG, OMG!!!!!! Need to make sure these two people are sterilized. The guy is one sick puppy. I hope they were able to help the kitten or euthanize it if it they were not able to help it.

I don’t understand it myself.

A wonderful lady I worked for back in Chicago some 15 years ago, went to New York City on vacation with her husband. They were waiting in the subway when they heard a noise. They went to a nearby garbage can, and dug through it to find the source of the noise. It was a kitten, that someone had *duct-taped* to the inside of a closed cardboard box so it couldn’t get out. Needless to say, she and her husband brought the kitten home with them.

A family friend took me aside when I was about 8 and told me that the most important thing that one person could have for another was empathy. It has affected the entire course of my life….. all for the better, of course. I never had problems having empathy with critters though… Mom used to rescue wild things…..And Dad had a horse that would do all kinds of things, but no one else could ride…

This story is a bit long, but it is all true.

A friend of mine, Abe, was a large and very good-hearted drummer in a rock band back in the ’70s, and his room mate was a true goofball known as Doodles. One day, Abe found a very sick and flea-infested orange kitten with white paws crying outside their apartment. Doodles refused to take it in because of the fleas, so Abe, who loved all animals, got some food and water, and then he fixed up a crate with a bed in it for the kitten.

The next day, Abe came home from rehearsal early to find Doodles with a full beer bottle in his hand, circling the crate, and the terrified kitten was staring up at him. Abe asked Doodles what he thought he was doing. Doodles assured Abe that he was going to put the flea-infested kitten out of his misery with the beer bottle.

Abe assured Doodles that he would put Doodles out of HIS misery if he so much as breathed on the kitten.

A jogger who was passing by slowed up and asked the two men if there was any way he could help.

Abe explained the situation to the jogger, who by this time had crouched down and was scratching the frightened kitten behind his ears. The jogger then asked if he could take the kitten off their hands, explaining that he was living temporarily in the apartment just down the way, loved cats, and did not have a cat right now.

Able and Doodles agreed and said farewell to jogger and his new pet.

Six weeks later, on a bright Monday morning Abe was talking with the manager of the apartment complex. The two men watched as a large chauffer-driven limo pull up to the curb. The erstwhile jogger walked out of his apartment. In a beautiful black silk suit. With a doctor’s bag in one hand. And a beautiful young orange cat with white paws was draped over his free arm, sporting a black collar and disk.

Abe recognized the little cat and the jogger, and he asked the manager, “What’s that guy’s name?”

The manager said, “Oh, that’s Dr. Jones, that new cosmetic surgeon? Just opened that big ole clinic on the north side. Huge practice. He has that great big house they were photographing for the Sunday Living section of the paper. It was even in that architecture magazine. Here’s the picture that was in the paper yesterday.”

The manager unfolded the paper he had been carrying under his arm, displaying the photo of the doctor in his marble tiled foyer. With a cat seated next to him. And the doctor in various other rooms of the mansion. With the cat following him from room to room.

“He just dotes on that cat,” smiled the manager. “That collar he’s got on? It’s some sort of alligator skin, and do you see that little ID disk? Got his name and the doc’s name and even has a diamond in it. Yep, that’s one happy cat.”

I asked Abe what happened then. Abe said the cat jumped in the limo and curled up in the back windshield as though he had been doing that forever.

“I couldn’t believe it. I rescued that little animal. And was he grateful? That cat didn’t talk to me, that cat wouldn’t even look at me. And I followed that limo for three blocks screaming, ‘MEOW’!”

Wish I had thought to describe Abe and Doodles. Abe was 6′4″ and weighed about 350, and Doodles was 5′7″ and must have weighed about half that. Abe was very gentle and could have turned Doodles into a piece of origami if he had wished to do so, but instead chose to try to reason with the slightly drunk young man.

That is part of why I work in non-profit for much less money than I would get at a for-profit business. There a lot of bosses out there who are complete jerks as the CEO’s at the top are so greedy that they have to squeeze as much work out of the worker that they have no energy for a life outside of work. I experienced that at several of my jobs. I trust that the next position I find, I will have the option to work a flexible schedule - something like a 10 hour day four days a week and have every Friday off. Now wouldn’t that be good.
