    Evelyn

This kitten belongs to a small farm market that rescued three kitten siblings. They are wonderful and sweet, and will readily fall asleep in the lap of anyone who will give them attention.

Happy Sunday morning, TDKers. I am sitting here in my pajamas enjoying a cup of tea. I start each day with a cup of brewed tea from tea leaves, not tea bags, and on Sundays I drink Madagscar Vanilla Sunday Blend. It is wonderful. I think I’ll veg a bit today–between my two jobs a day off is rare. I usually go to church but noted at my church’s website that Charles Stanley is not preaching this morning but will be back next week, so decided to make it a true day of rest and stay home. I am ehausted. Will still need t do some housecleaning, will put on some Josh Groban and Angrea Bocelli and go slowly.

    Catwoman 1737:
You are so lucky to be able to attend the morning services of Dr. Charles Stanley. I have been to see him in person twice and had him to autograph my Bible. I video taped his Sunday morning sermons for about two years. In my opinion he is the best. I hope that my pastor does not see this. Have a good Sunday and a great holiday, tomorrow.

What an absolutely glorious, sunny Sunday morning here in Michigan. I hope everyone is well and happy, and if you aren’t I send best wishes for all things good.
Catwoman, you’re a woman after my own heart as I adore Josh Groban. I have his CD’s in my car and listen to them every single day.
Don’cha just love a snuggly kitten? Little Evelyn is soooo

Well, I didn’t get up in time for Sunday worship, so I figure I’ll open up the TDK Breakfast Bar for those of us either going to or coming from worship services. There’s country-fried steak with white gravy, honey-glazed ham, peppered bacon, spinach/Cheddar chicken sausage, Eggs Benedict, apple/sage soy sausage, smoked salmon, scrambled eggs with cheese, berry/pear salad, bagels, whole-wheat buttermilk biscuits, orange juice, grape juice, tomato juice, vanilla tea, and Bloody Marys. Who wants eats?

I actually made my own version of an Egg McMuffin this morning. It consists of the basic English muffin and the traditional egg and cheese, but I put on regular bacon instead of Canadian bacon. It was pretty yummy, but I’d love to visit your buffet table, Vicki. I’ll have some of those great goodies for lunch!

Sounds delicious Vicki. Hubby and I had almond croissants from Peets. Hubby had a small latte and I had a medium scharffenberg chocolate mocha freddo (mocha with blended ice) and whip cream on top. Very yummy! Great Dane might like one of these.

Does this kitty look like it’s right eye may have a little eye infection or am I just seeing things?

Kitties are so much fun when they lay on their backs and their tummies up inviting one to give it kisses on the belly. So cute!

Good Morning TDKers! I hope someone sees this post to pass it on to todays kitten. It is Sunday morning and I am in North Carolina. On Thursday I happened to be in the neighborhood of Chester’s Place at the Burke Co. Friends of Animals. It was about 7pm and thought “what the helll” let’s stop by and at least see the exterior of the facility. Well, Toni was there and she let us in! I saw Chester’s plaque and the cattery. It was great yall! It was immaculately clean and all of the cats were so socialized. There were a couple of newcomer cats and they were a little shy but for the most part all of the cats were happy and clean and healthy! You all would be so impressed and pleased with this facility and Toni was great. I have pictures and will have to figure out how to get them online so that y’all can see a pic of Toni, the plaque, and the cattery. Ciao for now, I am on the road headed to my brother’s in SC this morning. Kitten Master, if you should see this would you post it on today’s kitten?
    Peace

That makes me very pleased to know that another TDK’er thought very highly of it. How nice of Toni to give you a tour. She’s been a pleasure. What a little sweetie! I love the “another person come to give me love” expression. There’s something so wonderful about animals who absolutely trust humans, a sign that they’ve encountered nothing but kindness and affection from them.

    Hi, Alex, hi, Kittenmaster!

It must be tea and music morning. I’m listening to Giuseppe di Stefano singing Italian songs. They’re old recordings but the passion and absolute simplicity of expression more than make up for the sound. I just finished my first cup of mango tea and will go into the kitchen soon to make another.

Dulcie, I posted this yesterday but wasn’t sure if you’d see it. Antique dealers almost never give you the best deal on furniture, but if you can find an auction house, it’s in their best interest to get the highest price for you. The seller usually pays about 10-20 percent of the final price, but you might end up paying a bit more if they need to move the settee. There are probably a few small auction houses in your area, or try looking for estate liquidators, since they often do auctions.

Evenlyn is such a lovely name, for a lovely kitten! That’s a truly trusting little soul.

Well, add one more kitty to hopefully be adopted. She has no name yet, but is listed on Catster as Pretty Girl. Her belly is getting big and I want to find out why (food, worms, or babies). She’s the half-white shorthair who seems to have gotten every recessive gene coloration in the feline spectrum, including blue eyes; click on my name if you want to see her photos on Catster. Now that she’s trapped, I’ll be able to get her in for spaying & shots, and I’ll also get her wormed.

I tried getting Mama Kitty back outside this morning, but she wouldn’t go. I’ll be trying again later today. No one has chosen to adopt this sweet, bombproof cat, and she has her shots, is spayed, and has certainly shown her street-smarts when it comes to living outside. There are so many kittens at the shelters right now that I fear the worst if I take her in! So she’ll go back outside, where she doesn’t really trust anyone but me; she’ll be free of endless childbearing and the worst diseases, and will have food, water, and shelter provided year-round in familiar surroundings. I feel like I’ve failed her, but it’s better than a lot of her alternatives.

    “I feel like I’ve failed her…”

Hon, if you find somebody dying of thirst in the desert, they aren’t going to mind if the water you give them isn’t Perrier!

You’ve done more for her than anybody else has, and will have a life a hundred times better than what her prospects were before. You’ve also saved the kittens she would have had.

Be proud of everything you’ve done for her and all the other kitties! You deserve to.

Yes, I know I should feel that way. It’s not what I wanted for her, but reality is like that. She will have a much better life than previously, and she will not be bringing any others into the world who might suffer the fate of two in her litter.

It’s good enough. It’s not great, spectacular, fantastic, or ideal, but it’s better than before, and at least now she has a fighting chance of living a happier and longer life.

Anncetera, You did TNR! That’s a very good thing. Now that cat will be able to live her life, wild as she is, without the constant stresses physically of heat and pregnancies. Few ferals choose to come in, if they don’t, you still have helped them so much. The ferals who cooperate in their rescues are amazing cats, and make it look more possible to do than it really is. I hope you are able to keep doing this very good work! Susan

Anncetera, you do such good work and I am sorry you weren’t able to fulfill your goal. I know how hard putting her back outside must have been for you, but since she is healthy and spayed she will adapt to her old life and without all the stress of kitten rearing. I have 2 adult ferals indoors because they were new to the area and not accepted by the feral colony. I really think if they had been part of a cohesive colony they would have been happier out there.

I have missed a lot of kitties. I started college last week, and it is taking me almost 4 hours to do my accounting homework this morning. Getting sick of it, so I am hiding from it via the internet. One 20-minute problem left and I can’t bring myself to do it. For those of you in PA, that may be wondering what college I’m going to, it’s LCCC. Yesterday’s kitty (well, all of them, of course) was SOOOOOO adorable! I want one! For those of you that have visited my kitties pages, Meowy might be going pretty soon. It’s difficult to explain kind of, she’s in great health, for her age, she’s just peeing on EVERYTHING. My mom was diagnosed with leukemia in July, and she is blaming herself (for getting cancer to begin with, an argument nobody is winning with her) for all of their financial troubles, and she thinks life would just be easier (a little) without Meowy. It’s hard to think about, because we just had to put our last dog down in May, 2 months later, my mom is diagnosed with cancer, 2 months later, Meowy may be getting put down. 2006 was a very bad year (luck wise), I was hoping 2007 would be better, but it’s just worse. I heard from many of my ex co-workers that 2006 was a bad year for them too. Did anybody else have a bad 2006 or 2007? I’m curious as to whether this is what I’m going to be going through (it all started when I met my fiance) as a test to my relationships (fiance and family), or whether it’s just a phase. It doesn’t feel like it’s ever going to end. How can God expect us to hold on to hope and faith, when everytime we turn around, our hopes are getting dashed by bad luck? I see there are some church goers in the group (I believe, but I don’t attend).

Oh dear, Julie! Has Meowy been taken to the vet, to make absolutely sure there’s nothing physically wrong? Has there been efforts to provide extra cat litter boxes, different litters, unflagging daily scooping, and enzyme treatment of spots where she’s erred? Or has there been an attempt to retrain her, starting with a large crate or very small room?

It still might be the best decision to put Meowy down, but I sincerely hope every effort can be made to give her a chance to change her behavior, or perhaps surrender her to someone who will go through with retraining.

Meowy has her own room (my old room) with a litter box of her own. She was using it, now she is not, and forbids to even go in there. Meowy is very, vengeful. Always has been. If you don’t hold her, she will walk a few steps away from you and sit with her back turned towards you. You can call her name, kiss to her, she ignores you. We think she does this (peeing) to ‘get revenge’ for all the times over the years we have not held her. She has taught herself to spray too. Something I always thought only male cats do, but I have seen her do it. She’s 17 years old (in case you haven’t looked at her page). And at least we think she’s in good health.

I just read Meowy’s diary on Catster. I have to tell you that I can NEVER leave a basket of towels or clothes out since they will ALWAYS be peed in. One of my cats, Tristan, will poop in the litter box in the laundry room then look around for some clothes or towels to pee on. If there are no clothes or towels around he will reluctantly pee in the litter box. I make sure that all baskets of clothes are in closets with the doors closed or in bedrooms with the doors closed. I think a clothes basket looks a lot like a litter box to a cat, but better with comfy towels to squat on! Also, I would definitely keep Meowy indoors in her room. She is too old do defend herself out there and with her deafness probably can’t hear cars or barking dogs. I know you have a lot going on but keeping opportunities from Meowy to spray or pee in unauthorized locations will cut down on the added stress and laundry.

I’m thinking that Meowy may have a urinary tract infection; has she seen the vet yet? It’s really impossible to diagnose without the proper tests and getting the cat on a course of antibiotics. (Trust me, when you have a bladder infection, it feels like you have to go to the bathroom very, very frequently.)

Most cats don’t have a well-developed sense of revenge, at least in my experience. They don’t like changes in their routine and environment, though. And if a cat is sick, that can change their behavior.

I’m very sorry about your mother’s leukemia, but please reassure her that nobody gets cancer on purpose!! I’m sorry about your streak of bad luck, but things will surely get better soon.

    Julie,

First off, if Meowy has not been prone to peeing on everything in the past, she probably has a bladder infection. Having had a bladder infection myself I can attest to the fact that it is VERY uncomfortable. Cats sometimes try to alert us to the fact that there is something wrong–one of my cats once peed on my pillow while I was sleeping on it, to my horror–but there was blood in the urine and that was the first I realized she was ill. There is also a school of thought that a cat with blood in urine will pee in other hidden places to throw off predators that would know that they are ill. It is instinctual. So, het her to a vet and on some antibiotics and see if that works. Clean up all of the pee places with an enzyme cleaner so that she doesn’t smell the spot and have it trigger in her brain to pee there again.

As for the faith issue…yes, I’ve been there too. After my divorce my van died, and had to take my meager savings and buy a car. I prayed about it and looked all summer. I let everyone know I was looking too. Finally I found one on Autotrader, thought I was getting a good deal, had it checked by a mechanic, etc. who said it was fine. Turned out that the engine was full of sludge and the car was not taken care of. I had spent $8200 on the car and had to put another $1500 in to just get it to run. I had it for 20 months when the engine went completely. I just had to buy a car and now have 5 years of payments to look forward to, just when my alimony runs out and I do not have the money to live on as it is. I bought a used Jeep Liberty and it gets awful gas mileage. I feel awful, if I had that $10,000 or so back it would be a fortune. I worked at 11.50 an hour to make that money and was totally ripped off by a guy who I told I was a single mother and that this was all of the money I had. This shook my faith a lot. Also this year I got bronchitis that turned to pneumonia and have no health insurance, since I do temp work and just started as a real estate agent. I had to pay for my own xrays and meds and lost a lot of work. I just felt like asking, “WHY WHY WHY?” Fortunately faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains, since that is about all I have left. Hang in there sister. Charles Stanley has a book called “The Blessings of Brokenness” that is a great help in bad times. And on today’s tv broadcast he said something to the effect that “adversity is a bridge that leads us directly to God.” If that is true, I must be typing this from God’s living room.

I relate to the car issues totally. NEVER WORK AT WAL-MART PEOPLE!!! It’s a horrible company to work for (in my opinion). My hell started when I started there. I met my fiance (the only good thing in my opinion that has happened in almost 2 years) working there. His boss didn’t like the fact that I helped him quit smoking, and told him to stand up for himself to this idiot, so he started causing trouble for us. Eventually, we told them we quit, but they wouldn’t let us quit. We tried everything but calling the boss an a**hole to his face to get fired. Wal-Mart literally expects you to devote your life to them. That was our last night. I couldn’t bear to go in there for one more night. My fiance soon got a job at a restaurant, barely covering our bills. I swore I wouldn’t ever go back to the retail business, but that was all I was qualified for. He soon found the job he’d been looking for, forklift, but it was a job almost 30 miles (one way) from home. I allowed him to drive my car up for his orientation, since it would take several hours. He totalled it on the way home. Didn’t have full coverage on it. Thankfully, the insurance did take care of his emergency room visit, and the guard rail he took out, and his new glasses. Chloe died in 2006 (see my page under Misty’s family), and I had to sell my 2 horses in 2006. I was briefly employed with a temp agency where I was hired by a flower company for 2 weeks in May as a CSR (to take orders for mothers day). I have not had a job since. We had to put our first dog down in August of 2005, Chloe died in February of 2006, my first horse was sold in March of 2006, my second horse was sold in June of 2006, Out of jobs in July 2006, accident in October of 2006, then (as far as I can remember) incident free until May of 2007 when we put our second dog to sleep, mom got cancer in July of 2007. What good has happened…Met boyfriend September 2005, started dating December 2005, got out of the hell hole called Wal-Mart in July 2006, got engaged in May 2007, started school to make a better future for myself (and hopefully end most of this bad luck steak) August 2007. I have no health insurance either (obviously since I don’t have a job). With my schedule, I don’t know how I’d have a job either, except to work at home, which I recently applied for and got turned down because they took back something they had told me was ok, which is what has brought on all the ‘why hold on to hope anymore?’ attitude. Oh! And, the plant where my fiance works now, is closing down. If God is really planning on doing something like the ark again, I pray that it is going to happen soon, because this world is just getting worse (not talking only about bad luck).

Julie, where do you live? There are a lot of job opportunities here in the Atlanta area. I’m sure your fiance would have no trouble getting a forklift job here.

I know what you mean about retail. It is truly a horrible life. Would it kill them to let you have something to sit on so you don’t have to stand on your feet all day? Would anyone really object if their cashier had a stool to rest on? I am a makeup artist for Lancome as my temp job. Lancome is a wonderful company but the stores where Lancome is sold can be another story entirely. It is very hard to stand all day in the high heels that are expected in the cosmetic dept, on a marble floor no less. I get lower backaches by late afternoon and not only can’t we sit down but we get in trouble for leaning too.

I have heard about Walmart being an awful place to work. Do you have a Costco near you? I read recently that they were at the top of the 100 best companies to work for. They really care about their employees apparently. People work there until retirement, practically unheard of in retail. What do you plan on doing after you graduate from school?

We live in PA, but I’d love to be somewhere warmer (yes, and with more job opportunities, things to do, etc.). We dream of going to CA, if only just to visit. I won’t leave my mom, and she won’t leave her parents, and my pap’s family has owned the land we live on since Indian’s roamed the land (we still find arrowheads when plowing in the spring). My grandparents house used to be a saloon. If we do have a CostCo, it’s probably like in Harrisburg or something. Berwick used to be booming (there was a plant here that built military machines). That all shut down and now Berwick basically sucks. I heard about CostCo being a great company too, that the owner actually works in one of his stores with his employees and just has a regular name tag on (like just ‘Jim’ or something like that). I hope that CostCo is the beginning of the demise of Wal-Mart. What do I plan on doing after I graduate? Hopefully getting a good office job (my dream job), and either allowing my fiance to go to school for architectural engineering, or continuing my education within a few years and
