Shorty
Location: Springfield, Oregon, USA

This photo was taken when Shorty was about 11 weeks old. He came to us when he was only about a month old; he and his siblings had been literally thrown in the garbage, and were luckily found alive and rescued by workers at the landfill. They had named him “Shorty”, because he was found at the Short Mountain Landfill, but he was so tiny, we started calling him “Little Dude”, which evolved into “Doodle”. He can be feisty one minute, and a sweet lover kitty the next. His favorite sports are tree climbing and chasing bugs. We love him to pieces!!

Get Shorty!!!
I’m glad someone did get Shorty — what an infuriating story, but at least it had a happy ending.
People are so mean……and stupid…….and cruel…..
Though this precious Shorty had a crummy start to life, even his mama says he’s ‘loved to pieces’ by his family and I think that’s awesome.
What a sweetie! I’d love to Doodle with Doodle!
Good to know that the workers rescued him and his siblings! At least somebody’s cruelty was outdone by others’ kindness.
And what a beautiful cat! Such lovely markings.
hey
awww cute kitten
I love kitten they are so cute
Just wanted to throw out the possibility that someone didn’t actually throw them away, it’s possible that a stray cat decided a dumpster looked like the most private place to have her kittens, not realizing what would happen to the contents of the dumpster later.
Get Shorty Pounce!
Hi Shorty! You’re cute!
Shorty looks like he just got caught getting into mischief!
ditto
What an adorable little guy. So glad he and his family were rescued. What is wrong with people who treat animals like garbage.
Awwwww… what a cutie! Can’t tell for certain from the angle, but looks like some big paws on the little dude… doodle.
Shorty is just gorgeous!
“What? I wasn’t doing anything!”
What a handsome Lil’ Dude! Thanks for saving him. I’d love to “throw out” people that think creatures are trash!
Shorty, love your expression and your coloring!!!
Who the h*** ARE these people who will just throw away living creatures? It’s unbelievable…
Doodle is one super sweet kittycat! Kisses to litlle Shorty.
What an adorable little Doodle! How could someone just toss them in the garbage?!?
WTF is wrong with people who throw cute kittens like Shorty in the trash? I don’t get it, and I don’t want to get that. He can be my Shorty anytime.
He’s definitely been caught in some mischief.
Love the silver tabby markings.
Shorty Doodle went to town
Riding with the garbages,
Sharp-eyed workers rescued him
And now he chases midges!
(and butterflies, and bees, and house flies….)
What a handsome little guy! How could anyone throw away such a beautiful little work of art like Doodle?
What a cutie! He does look like a handful. That’s sort of a “What? I wasn’t going to climb this tree.. Honest!” look.
What a pretty kitty, God bless you for taking him in.
What a little love! Thank God someone rescued the family and found them some forever homes. How could anyone look into that face, those eyes and just discard his like so much trash?? Pray I never come face to face with a person like that. I shudder to think what I could be capable of.
Could we use the TDK fund for my bail??
Let’s hope there’s plenty of money, because you may not be the only one needing bail.
There’s something awfully wrong with so-called “people” who could could throw away such treasures. Thank God this beautiful cat and his family were found by some generous souls.
Forget bail–let’s form an alibi club! :->
The first rule about alibi club…
No need for bail, we can hide the body……
And if all else fails demand a jury trial in front of our peers–TDK members I think could be fair and impartial in this case, yes indeed.
somebody threw out kittens into a LANDFILL? I am so glad that the few cruel people out there are more than outnumbered by the kind and generous ones. Thank you for rescuing Doodle - he is an utter gem!
Once again I am tempted to do some garbage picking. People can be so mean. They are obviously not of the same planet most of the rest of us are. I wish I could understand what is going through their heads so I can help set people straight. Sigh…
Anyway, Shorty looks like he wants to climb up me to cuddle and play. What a great picture. Ok, down you go, Shorty, to play in the sharing circle.
Shorty’s a beauty. I love him.
A tortie-point alleymeezer! Beautiful little dude!
What a beautiful little fuzzbutt!!
All I can say about the cruel person who did that to him and his family is watch out buddy!! what goes around comes around!!
To all those who abuse cats: when you die, guess what God may look like to you?
Yeah…what she said. I had a downstairs neighbor once who kicked my baby kitty in the mouth, requiring her jaw to be wired. I was hysterical. I never spoke to him, I thought I would come unglued and hurt him. My Lucky passed away last year after living with me almost twenty years. The incident happened when she was about one. I prefer animals to people. Except those here of course.
Remember Narnia.
Some of our TDK kittens have such harsh beginnings, but they always find such wonderful people to care and love them.
What a little beauty Shorty is with that silvery fur! How could anyone think he’s a mischief maker…ah…is that a twinkle in his eye?
A beautiful boy indeed. I think American shorthairs have longer legs than Europeans do. They are all Daddy/Mommy Long Legs at 10 weeks but still. Or is it just me and my envious soul?
And Pttthuiitttt! to people who throw kittens away. I would like to meet them one by one in a dark alley where we could discuss violence and animal cruelty with terms they understand. Afterwards I could pile them in garbage cans to keep the surroundings tidy. What a beautiful dream!
Miu, I’ll join you in that alley, and I’m sure most TDKers would love to help fill the garbage bins with the trash. Thank God Shorty and sibs were found, makes me heartsick to think of all those not found.
Great picture of a beautiful kitty! Bless you for giving him a wonderful home!
Shorty is a sweet sweet doodle bug. Thank you and the landfill workers for saving Shorty and his siblings.
One of the rescue groups I work with found 3 dumpster babies this summer. One didn’t make it but the two that did are so loving. One was adopted but Olivia is still looking. I was holding her on Sunday and I almost had to walk out the door with her. The most loving little girl. Breaks my heart over and over again when I hear and see this ongoing abuse by inhumane humans.
I want to Kanoodle with thie little Doodle!
I wonder what he looks like now. His markings
are just sooooooooo nice!!!!
Shorty’s story about being in the garbage just makes me sick and breaks my heart. I just don’t understand people who would do such things to innocent animals, especially the babies.
Many thanks to those men who rescued the kitties and many thanks to you for adopting Shorty… that makes this little story so wonderful.
He is a little doll!!! =^..^= Give him a scratch on the chin from me.
That’s one beautiful kitten, and from the size of those paws, I don’t think he’s going to stay a little dude for long!
Hey Shorty! what a handsome little dude you are, as well as blessed to be in your furever home now. happy day everyone.
It kills me to think of all the poor babies that are not rescued. Curses on those that do not value life, especially the young and vulnerable!
THAT’S MY LITTLE BABY!! Awww, my mom told me that as soon as I introduced her to TDK she’d submitted my little Shorty, but I didn’t know that he’d end up on here!
She may take all the credit for rescuing him, but I was the one who called and begged to bring him home
He slept in the crook of my neck until I left for school and I miss my little monster dearly.
He is a beautiful boy. You are lucky to have him, I love the siamese personality.
Good for you and your mom to give this sweetie a good home and lots of loving. We’re happy that you are sharing him with us today.
Congratulations on your famous kitty! You are so lucky to get Shorty. The little monster looks like so much fun; no wonder you miss him when you’re away.
SHORTNESS!!…The Short-Stacker!,Shorty,Shorty,pudding and pie, kissed the girls and made them sigh! Reminds me of my adorable ferals about to go tree-crazee! “Wot?…me?I was just checkin’ on this grass-hopper,see?And he landed somewhere over…here, yeah! That’s the ticket! Over here!” Does my heart SO good to know these little fella’s are getting forever homes. :B
Oh, and this is what he looks like now, for those who wanted to see his markings:
Oh dear… I’m awful at html :/
Here’s just the website:

Wow! What a beauty he still is as he’s grown!
Wow indeed - he’s got awsome markings.
Wow! He grew into a very handsome boy.
Looks like he’s a tabby/siamese mix. He’s gorgeous! Thanks for rescuing Shorty.
Oh WOW, he’s HUGE and gorgeous! Love those blue eyes!
There’s my Doooooodle!!!!! What a nice surprise to see our furbaby as the star of the day!…. You can’t see it clearly in the photo, but his big grey feet don’t match the rest of his body. He can be a punk sometimes, but Cute buys a lot of forgiveness
And don’t cats KNOW about how being cute buys forgiveness! He’s gorgeous. Siamese/Tabby/Bigfoot cross?
Thanks KendraMarie, for letting us love him too!
Dinky Doodle FUZZ
Better than the people who threw him away FUZZ
Time to play a game? FUZZ
Oh what a little cutie pie!!!
*picks the playful little purrbaby up for a quick snuggle before letting the energetic little kitty down again to play*
This boy looks like he’s ready for action!!!!
What a handsome guy!

Thank you KendraMarie for the pleasure of seeing your babies, now and then.
Thank you and your mom for rescuing these babies and the workers at the landfill for having hearts.
Purrs and headbutts to all
What a fabulous face! Love Shorty….thank God for his rescue.
Shorty is plotting something. He’s going to jump on someone! Look at his eyes. I think he’s going to pounce at the camera! Look out!
Shorty is adorable and so handsome! He reminds me of my Munchkin and little Mia. Love his pictures.
KendraMarie, Shorty is a beauty both as a kitten and as a grown cat
What a handsome little boy! I’m so glad you saved him. The world is a better place having people with generous loving hearts like yours in it!
