Tater
Location: Vallejo, California, USA

This sweet little girl is our new 3-month-old kitten. She’s a rescued feral, and the cloudiness in her eye is from an unknown eye injury she sustained in the empty field in Oakland from which she was rescued. The vet assures us she’s alright, and can see out of that eye. She loves to stalk her new big brother, Smudge, a feral kitten I adopted fifteen years ago. She is also a little foodie, asking for a taste of whatever we eat. She goes bonkers for tidbits of cooked potato, hence her name, “Tater.”

POUNCE!
Pounce!
I thought I had missed being first because my cat 120 jumped on the keyboard as I was typing, but I guess everyone is sleeping in this morning! Tater looks like a nice little girl, and I agree with her–potatoes are pretty tasty. Does she like them with butter and sour cream?
I like ‘taters..what sweet one we have here..
What a pretty baby! I wonder what’s she’s contemplating?
Pretty black kitty !!!
I agree 2 Popoki. I love the shine on Tater’s coat. I wonder if she’s related to my 5 blackies(6 counting the newbie feral out back)? lol. I also love the shape of her head. I know it sounds strange, but, I’ve found that kits with that shape of head are extremely lay-back cats when they grow up. Thank you for rescuing her. Too many black ones seem to get discarded.
Another great kitten rescued from the wild. Thank you for allowing yourself to be claimed by little Tater, and giving her a furever home.

tater - you are just gorgeous. and a very lucky little girl to have found a loving furever home, with a big brother to look out for you.
all best wishes for a long and happy future with your new family.
I had a black cat , that look just like this when he was younger. But recently found out he had cancer in his leg,
I started out small knot we thought was just arthritis.
But when he began to limp on that leg took to vet.
It had grown to the size of a orange. He was 17 yrs. old and the vet said it would probably kill him to operate, and he would loose his whole leg. And it had spread to front leg and down his back. Could not stand to see him suffer, so had to put to sleep. Feb. 9. 2008. Lucky was born to a stray cat that my neighbor had found at a railroad station. Then they found out she was having kittens and I ask if I could have one. That is how I got Lucky, cats name. born June 1990 do not know exact day.
It has taken me this long to be able to talk about it. I am so sad. Cryed all day on the sat. had to put down. I can not stand to look at his things had to put in a closet.
But I still see him every where I look in the house. He always came to the door to meet me when I got home from work. And beg for chicken when I made chicken salad. I know it takes time to get over a loss, but it hurts so much. I can never replace him, he had his own personality . So say a pray for me . Thanks for listen I know you understand how hard is to loose a cat. That is like your own child. I do not have any children. It is just me and my husband, and we work all the time. Would not be fair to get a kitten that we could not spend much time with now. When I first got Lucky at 5 weeks old I was not working and home with him all the time. Then when he got older he got use to me going to work and waited for me to get home. I know I talked your ear off. Thanks for listen it helps to know their are other people out in the world that care.
Kathy, I am so sorry for your loss. It is so hard to lose a cat that you have had for nearly two decades, they truly become members of the family. I agree about adopting another cat, it’s not the same but at least your cat died and another was saved. I have a wonderful black cat I am trying to find a home for, since my other 6 cats (all males, everyone is neutered) do not get along with him. They gang up on him and attack him. He is the sweetest guy on earth, affectionate, loves children, a lap cat and so smart he taught himself to use the toilet. But it seems that black cats are harder to place. I am in Georgia, are you in Alabama? Hope you rode out the storms ok, we were pretty scared here for a while.
I’m sorry for your loss KathyinAl,it’s so hard to lose a wonderful companion kitty like Lucky. There are many deserving adult kitties that need homes. I’m fostering a wonderful silky black kitty who has adopted me and is quite delightful even though I’ve only had her about a month. Please think about sharing your home and love with another lucky kitty, maybe a pair to keep each other company since you aren’t there as much. Since animals have owned me a house without an animal in it is just plain empty. It’s just a suggestion.
Thank you, for your suggestion. Maybe, again some day.
If you get two they can keep each other company while you are gone–you will never be able replace your lost kitty, but there is always another who will carve our their own niche in your heart!
Tater is a sMASHING Kitty…if I ever saw one! lol…I love Black Kitties! Snuggles, Snorgels and Scritches to the Sweet Tater…
Tater is such a cutie - I almost adopted one just like it! Kathy - I want to express my sympathy for your loss. I’m a relatively new cat owner but I did have a rather rocky start. A year ago, I adopted an adult feral cat from a local rescue organization. She was such a beautiful calico whom I called Mama’s Girl. It turned out that she had behavior problems and attacked me without provokation many times. I consulted with other cat owners and her foster mom. I adored her, however, because of my inexperience I had to return her after a month. I really tried and was so broken up over it that I couldn’t stop crying for days. The foster mom who took her back said I was meant to have a cat, so I decided to try again and got a pixiesque 3 month old orangie. My lil BeuBeuGiGi is now fourteen months and thriving! At first, she didn’t fill the void left by my first cat - but I can’t imagine not having her in my life. It’ll take time, and you’re not trying to find a replacement for Lucky, but rather, another totally different individual kitty to love.
**the calico is still with her foster mom; the organization is a no-kill shelter that believes in keeping all their cats until they find loving homes.**
I love sweet Taters!
Taters is adorable! When I first read this posting i couldn’t help but think, oh my goodness is this lilbit’s sister! My lilbit is a black kittie who was found in the engine of a car about 3 months ago. We have no idea how far he came in that car. I’m in Sacramento! He loves to eat anything and sucks on his back paw when he’s falling asleep!
Tater’s is precious! I hope you enjoy her and the little catattude as it grows!!
She is just beautiful!
Tater looks like my Haje did as a much younger kitten.
Kathy, sorry to hear about your loss of Lucky, he was surely greeted by so many others when he crossed the bridge.
Bless her little tater eating heart. She’s a cutie!
-One cat lover to another
cute lil spud
Thank you for rescuing this adorable little baby! I guess potatoes are safe to feed a cat, but I know some foods like chocolate and onions can be very harmful. May the Lord bless you and this sweetie-pie always.
Thanks for all the sweet comments about our new kitten! We just adore her — though it is astonishing how much noise such a little girl can make thundering down a wood-floored hallway. She does love to play.
We are concerned about her fondness for human food, and I’ve been researching what foods are bad for pets. Nothing with chocolate in it, or onions, for sure. I know some feel that cats should never eat even non-toxic human food (rice, potato, vegetables, melon), and others that little bits of some things won’t harm them. We’re being very careful about what and how much to let her munch… especially since she seems to be quite a carb kitty, and we want to keep her at a healthy weight.
Sooooo cute!
Tater is so cute. I love black kittens, and it’s great to see how you took her in from the streets.
