Socrates

SocratesThis is my cutie Socrates. He is a pouncing monster! He loves to grab onto a calf as your walking by and hitch a ride. He will do anything for french fries (be sure to count your fingers!). But when he’s tired all he wants to do is curl up in my lap and sleep on his back like a baby.

Oh, I’ve got a little girl who loves french fries too. She’s gotten better about leaving fingers, but she’s also gotten better at sneaking fries if I turn my back.
I love the name Socrates.

one of my girls does that too! if you take your eyes off a box of fries for a minute, she’ll just reach up on the table and grab one in her mouth and run off to enjoy it. she does that with twizzlers too! =)

My mother’s cat loves Twizzlers too, and gummy bears. Very strange. Never heard of the french fry thing though.

My Cat Loves French Fries, As Well! Why is that?
Is it because McDonalds uses beef juices in the cooking oil when they deep fry the french fries? Cats aren’t supposed to like potatoes.
Has anyone here ever hit their cat as punishment?
I hit my cat really hard today.
oh well.

I’m pretty sure McDonald’s doesn’t use beef juices on fries. Should be 100% vegetable oil without any cross contamination from things like nuggets. But should doesn’t mean it is.
My little sweety’s favorite fries are Wendy’s. She doesn’t get them often though. Maybe I’ll go out to eat today.

Wow, he looks and acts almost exactly like my cat. Only the fur around one of her eyes is white. But she does that little calf hug too, only when she does it, she usually bites. She’ll jump out of no where too. Our nicknae for her is Ninja Kitty. She’s also a pouncing machine.

Just because cats like french fries doesn’t mean they should have them. Bad eating habits for cats can lead to serious health problems. Because I love my cats I feed them food that is good for them, and not candy or french fries. I urge other cat lovers to follow my example. It breaks my heart to think of cats getting sick or living shorter lives because of bad eating habits. If you are unsure about what is healthy or unhealthy for cats, consult your veterinarian.

While a steady diet of anything bad is not ideal, an occasional treat of something that isn’t harmful (like onions which all my cats are attracted to) won’t hurt a thing. My beloved late tuxedo lived to be 18 and he spent the first ten years of his life at approximately 27 pounds (his appetite was deranged, for real). Maybe he might have made it to 20 or 22 if I could have dieted him down sooner, but he was a happy, loving boy who was spoiled senseless and loved dearly. I wish that could be said of every cat on the planet.

I worded the above badly, just in case anyone is still reading. Onions are deadly for cats. What I meant to say was that an occasional treat of something that isn’t harmful (such as onions, which are harmful), is ok.

Don’t get me wrong, I understand the need for an occasional harmless treat, and am not some crazy health nut (I’m guilty of liking fries myself), but I think it’s safe to say that fries are not harmless for cats. They may like them because the grease has protien, but fries are also loaded with sodium and carbs. Too many carbs can lead to diabetes. I have a diabetic cat who has a special high protien low carbohydrate food, so please, everyone, be careful, and if you want to give your cat a special treat make it a cat treat or something that is mostly protien. I know we all want our cats happy and healthy.
