Lefty

LeftySweet five-and-a-half week old Lefty was stashed in my garage by his stray mom, a sweet and friendly calico who lived on my patio for three months prior to giving birth. I never saw her again. I was forbidden to have pets by my landlord so within a month I box trained him and found him a great home with my cousin. I named him Lefty because he has one white sock on his back left paw. He’s about 7 weeks in this picture and he’s guarding my printer while I work.

Lefty looks like my one year old Rusty at that age. He is an orange tabby but doesn’t have the white sock on his left foot.
His eyes aren’t blue either, gold.

I love orange kitties! My 8 month old kitty is an orange boy named Benji. Lefty looks like he might have some Persian in him. Did you know most orange kitties are male and most calico’s are female. I wonder why. He’s adorable anyway!

The reason that most calico cats are female is due to X-linked genes for color; male cats have a Y instead of the 4th X it would take to produce calico coloring. If you can find a male calico, keep it because it is as rare as you can get!

Ohh, too adorable for words! What a face — I think your cousin is very fortunate! Bless your good heart for taking such good care of Lefty when he was alone in the world and finding him a good home.

calicos are usually female because both red and black are stored on the x chromosome, which only females have two of (males have xy, remember?). so if the cat has the red alelle on on x chromo, and the black alelle on the other chromo, she’s calico.

OOOHHHH!!! I WANT A CARBON COPY OF LEFTY!!!
When I was in college, I had a “Marmalade” cat that my mom
called “Meatloaf” (after one of Kliban’s drawings). He grew into a Meatloaf all right! My father was even drawn in by Meatloaf’s Humanesque habits…
Lefty’s Momma knew he was going to be taken care of …I hope she’s well…
Lefty’s blessed with his “chosen” family!

Why, oh WHY do landlords have such closed minds about cats??? If the odd owner is negligent, fine him for the damage. Why should someone be denied a kitten because of a few bad apples? Require spaying/neutering and shots & a pet lease, for Pete’s sake! [rant over now] Gee, what a sweetie pie!

I agree with you. Cannot understand why landlords have to be against having animals. Having kittens or maybe a small dog does so much for the morale and making people happy. Might make that renter a better person without causing problems for the landlord. Who knows??? Lefty is a cute sweetie.

I agree as well. In my experience, children are MUCH more destructive than cats, but of course, it’s “not right” to ask someone with children to not live somewhere. Except the geniuses that came up with those 55+ areas. I only wish they had “pets only” communities. And no one can accuse me of being a “child-hater” because I have a daughter that I adore. I just think kitties have it A LOT harder in this world. (rant over)
I love orange kitties!!! I always wanted one and name him Oliver or Milo. (QUIZ TIME: CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHERE I GOT THOSE NAMES FROM??)

oh yeah, and *Watch-cat FUZZ*!!!!

Only 19 comments? This is a very cute little cat! What
a smart mom-cat to find her baby a good starting point! Do people give off “kindness” signals? Hope mom cat is okay.

*I definately agree with you* what a smart mama-cat to know you would take care of her precious. I hope someone can trap mama and spay her though. As much as I love the babies, there’s too many in Lefty’s moms’ position. I hate when I see stray cats. It make me sick that anyone would let their cats outside in the first place.

Darling kitten. He reminds me of our cat Tiger. We were coming down the street toward our home when we saw this tiny kitten in the middle of the road. We stopped to get him out of the road. I tried to put him down on the other side of the road thinking his mom had to be close by, but he didn’t seem inclined to go anywhere. He stood up against the side of the van, so of course I picked him up and we took him home. I placed him on my chest and I was looking down talking to him. He reached up and slapped my nose :). I came the conclusion quickly, he didn’t get sparated by accident from his mother, she abandoned him :) . But as bad as he could be he was a loving cat.

She couldn’t have been no more than a few weeks old. my dog was barkin and barking, so i went out to the shed, and there shw was on top of the pottery wheel. she hissed at me as i picked her up, but she soon started to purr and it was then i knew i was her owner. she is 5 yrs old now, and such a sweet cat.

LOL, silly, she meant that the mom was a calico!!!! It’s ok, we all go a little cuckoo sometimes, especially when our kitties run us in circles ( I call it “herding”, Gheeri herds me towards her bowl when she’s hungry)
