Just try not to eat that orange. It looks a little hairy. I have a cat that is 17 and still finds the smallest box to fit in.

Too cute! I don’t think she’s quite a tuxedo though. Correct me if I’m wrong. I have a tuxedo cat and she’s all black except for a white chest, feet, whiskers and a little on her tummy. Somebody give us the low down on a tuxedo’s markings. Haily is adorable anyways! I love fluffy cats. I’ve never had a fluffy cat except in fostering.

P.S. Check out my new & improved link below. Thanks !

I believe any kitty who is black and white is considered a tuxedo. She is adorable! I’ve had a two named Casper 1 and 2 and a female named Silly that looked like that. They were all very loveable.

Thank you, yes the feather was from “the one that got away”. We had him neutered just after that, and he settled down some, wasn’t “as” interested in catching and killing everything that moved.

Kat1 I LOVE your link!
I had a landlady who had 3 cats she called Tuxedo
Cats, and their bodies were black, they all had a white stripe down their nose, but one had a mustache, and one a gautee(SP?), and I think 2 had white chests. My Emily looks like Hailey, only with short hair…With horses, Emily’s markings would be called “a pie-bald pinto”!

Oops, didn’t realize until it was too late that I misspelled tuxedo :-P I already know to not drink ‘n’ drive, even if it’s just one drink, I apparently shouldn’t drink and type either :-P

Coming back and looking at that pic again makes me want to go looking for a longhair tuxedo kitty that needs a home :-)

I found my kitty KIARA asleep half-inside my sneaker once. The poor thing tried to get all the way in, but just couldn’t fit. The only thing outside was a tiny bum and tail.

Now she sleeps with her head on the sneaker!

My Gheeri likes to sleep in plastic shopping bags. Whenever we come home from Publix or Wal-mart or Target-the second the stuff is out of the bags, she’s in! (But she will not tolerate the bag being picked up while in it.)

Comment by caroline

Please be careful with plastic bags. Cats can suffocate.
My cats love them as well.. I sometimes ask for paper bags for my cats..
What is it with cats and boxes and bags?

2006-03-21 09:43:17

lol, yes, I know. When I catch her in one, I let her play for a while, then shoo her out of it (much to her disdain, which she lets me know just how much she hates when I do that by “baa-ing” at me) Shes my sheepy-girl. Actually, intact bags are a rare commodity because the first thing she does is make pizza dough, which in turn…. well you get the point.

OH! Gheeri makes a beeline for the drawers whenever we are in the dresser-does anyone elses’ cats do this? It’s soooo hard to get her out without taking the whole drawer out !

My Emma does that. Drives me bananas! My kitten…well, not a kitten anymore I guess, 8 mo. old (who weighs almost 9lbs already!), Benji, is obsessed with mittens and socks. So, when I leave my son’s underwear drawer open far enough, he will stick his paw in and carry off a mitten or sock. I find it later in the kitchen or upstairs! He especially likes my son’s blue & white mittens. Stinker! Love u Benji & Emma!!

My cat Sam used to carry off laundry all the time; his favorites were socks and undies, which he left in a “trail” down the hall and into the living room! He used to meow loudly just as he was doing this. When we were away from home, he did this even more, so we’d enter to a mass of undies and socks! Now, he’s tired of that game, so he mostly naps and hits his tail against something if he’s upset or wants attention…
Isn’t it weird the stunts cats do to make us notice them?

Geoffrey will get into any drawer that’s open far enough. If the drawer is open only a crack, he’ll stick in a paw. He also likes to get into cupboards, but he opens those all by himself.

2006-03-21 10:32:13

lol, great! I’m not they only one with a “closet” kitty! Gheeri opens the linin closet and tucks herself way in the back, on top of the nice, clean, soft towels (smart, aren’t they?!)

My cat likes to sleep in the laundry baskets, and when he’s feeling playful he will try to hide inbetween them (he can’t quite accomplish this anymore as he’s a huge 13 pound kitty) and hunt like a moray eel.
How did that wedding thing go?? Hope it went well.

Since we’re talking about silly cat behavior…does anyone’s cat wag their tail when happy? Excuse the comparison all kitties, but like a dog? I know I’m not the only one. My Emma has done this since I started fostering her (I then adopted her, obviously!). She does it when she’s happy to see me and the tip of her tail as she wags it, touches her left side then her right at about 10 miles per hour! It’s just too funny!!

Yes, Casper’s tail seems to always be going. When he’s mad it thumps very loudly if he’s laying on the entertainment center. Not so loud when he’s content. I think the only time it’s not wagging is when he’s asleep. Sometimes just the tip is just moving. I was wondering if any other cat did that, now I know.

She looks almost exactly like my cat. My daughter named him Oreo after the cookie, but his nickname is B because he is such a sweet beebee (baby). I love long haired cats because they are extra fluffy. I had a himalayan named Bear and a true tuxedo cat named Isabelle. They are both in Kitty heaven now, but they lived long lives and their pictures are in small frames in my shadow box on the wall. We never forget our fuzzy babies.

Clarify for me Karen, what is a true tuxedo’s markings?

Comment by Karen S.
2006-03-21 17:24:26

Well, I thought it was just as you described it, with specific markings: all black except for the feet, chest, and tummy–so that it looks like the cat it wearing a tuxedo–not just any black and white cat. After reading all the comments, I guess people have different ideas about it. I also thought that “calico” and “tortoiseshell” were interchangeable. I do know that all tortoiseshell cats are female because the gene for that color is on the X chromosome. The only way a male cat can be a tortoishelle is if it has Kleinfelter’s Syndrome–which means he has an extra X chromosome. I’ve read that in more than one of my books on cats

i have a question a bit off the subject. we just got a new kitten a few weeks ago. Now she’s torti dark, but with white paws, so is she a torti? or is she just a dark calico? I don’t know which it is LOL, she’s my first calico/torti whatever it is lol. Ty much.

2006-03-21 10:43:44

The definition of a calico is a tortoiseshell with patches of white. If JUST the paws are white, it’s a tortie. Otherwise, it’s a calico, or tortie-and-white. As for tuxedos, if I’m wrong, I’m wrong, but from what I learned, tuxedos are only to be black-and white. (because most tuxedos are that color, except white ones, in which case, i guess you can also call white cats tuxedoes! :) )

Comment by Jae
2006-03-21 11:29:34

Ahhhhh ok, well her paws and under her chin down to a bit of her belly is white, the rest is all dark brown, medium brown, and tannish. So that makes her calico, thank you! lol i’ve been wondering since we got her!

Hey Bagheera, tuxido cats, according to Wikipeda is:To be considered a “tuxedo”, its black coloring should be solid through out, with white limited to the paws, belly, chest, throat, and possibly the chin. The tuxedo name is just that. It should appear as if the cat is wearing a tuxedo.

Oh, bty the kitty is adorable!

Our gigantic cat always tries to get into any box also, no matter how small! His sister, an addled tortoise shell, likes to sleep in a small flat round basket that hardly holds her.

She is beautiful.

I have been told that a tuxedo cat is all one color except around the front of its neck, and on it’s belly and usually the tip of their paws, that will be all white, so if she/he were standing on their hind legs, it would look like they have on in the case of my tuxedo kitty, a grey jacket, with a white shirt underneath.

My understanding is that a tuxedo cat looks as if it’s wearing a tuxedo–black jacket over white shirt. White tie and spats are optional. Tail is de rigueur, of course. My James also has a white upside-down valentine on his nose. In any case there should be no white on the “jacket” part. Hailey is a spotted fluff-cat, and a beauty at that.

You sure she doesn’t want you to change her name to Satsuma?
