Harley

HarleyThis sweet boy was dumped out at my office along with a brother and two sisters, and one very small can of cat food. The problem was they weren’t old enough to eat by themselves. I took them home & bottle raised them until they were old enough to eat on their own. Harley, his brother and one of his sisters are bob tailed. They are still here with us & give us great joy everyday.

His royal highness Harley and his princess sisters were very fortunate to have been placed at your work with a loving person to care for them such as you!

His face has kind of the look where “I’m a cat, king of the house.” The squint in his eyes maybe. Scratch those little ears for me!!

2006-03-22 07:47:17

Thank god you got them! Imagine if no-one had found them in that box!
I love bobtails *lynx-like* fuzz

Good mornin y’all
it’s almost afternoon, I know, but I wanted to post earlier, but we had an office b-day party

OK, so you guys would not believe what happened to me yesterday. I’m coming out of the supermarket, and sitting on the back bumper of the car is……a blue budgie!!! It was just sitting there! I approached it-it didn’t fly away. So I grabbed a basket I had in the car and scooped it up-still no fuss. Now it is sitting in a cage at home that we borrowed from a neighbor that breeds lovebirds. Gheeri was *thrilled*. She has been sitting on the counter next to the cage. Just watching her next meal…XD I’m hoping we can keep it, but if it poses a problem because of Bagheera, we’ll have to find him another home (we know it’s a boy-he has blue above his beak). Isn’t that weird???

Comment by Kim1

It was meant to be. You know, animals seem to know an “animal” person somehow. Oscar always brings home strays. He’ll sit there and watch them eat his food, use his litterbox, and will lay next to them in the laundry room. I have to lay down the rules and tell him to take them home! Like magic they are gone awhile later. Then a few days later there is another cat or dog in the house again!

Awwww…like Kim1 said, maybe it was meant to be! I love parrots (yes parakeets are parrots)! We always had birds growing up. I used to hand feed/raise parakeets. My husband & I had a parakeet & a orange-wing parakeet until I met my Danny Boy(1st kitty child). My mother and best bird friend took in my birds. Long story and this is a kitty site, right! Sorry.

Hi
Maybe keeping the bird in a seperate room might work.
Or you could get one of those cages that suspends from a pole or one of those ceiling plant hooks.

2006-03-22 11:21:46

Yes, I think we might wind up getting one of those hanging poles…. we thought about the ceiling hook, but here in Florida, we have fans and cold A/c because it gets so hot, so I don’t want him to get chilly- Gheeri has been behaving, I think she just likes to watch the bird… we have a gecko as well, and she doesn’t bother him at all.

Come click on my link!

Please don’t get a hook or pole to hang the bird from! I did that years ago when I was a teenager. My cat figured out how to jump from the furniture into the cage, until he knocked the door open. I came home from school to find him snacking on my parakeet!

I keep birds now (cockatiels), but they have their own bedroom. I always have cats, but I make sure that they never, ever meet my birds.

In fact, I may be posting a kitten picture here soon myself. One week ago today I adopted Sam, a solid black kitten around 4 or 5 months old. He was a stray in need of a home, and I was kitty-less since my Layla died back in August (she was 15).

Anyway, Sam is a bundle of fun! I’ll be taking pictures and who knows–perhaps you’ll see him here sometime soon!

IT’S HEARTBREAKING TO SEE HOW PEOPLE CAN BE SO CRUEL TO ANIMALS—-IT’S INEXCUSABLE HOW PEOPLE REFUSE TO GET THEIR PETS SPAYED/NEUTERED NOWADAYS—THERE ARE REALLY INEXPENSIVE ($30.00) OR FREE spay days at most shelters around the country now! All 4 of my cats have been “throw-away” cats and there are millions more out there. It’s up to animal lovers like us to educate people about the HUGE pet over-population problem and to fix their pets—or relinquish them!

Comment by Karen S.
2006-03-22 10:15:05

I totally agree with you! There is an organization (you all may have heard of) called Alley Cat Advocates. They have a trap and neuter program. Afterwards, they release the animals back in the area where they were trapped. Its not a perfect solution, but they are trying to make a difference with the overpopulation problem. I donate money to them now and then.

Very cute kitten. He has a very independent look about him–even for a cat.

I have a dog too. His name is Sammy. He’s a cocker spaniel mix–mostly mix! He is an older gentleman–13 years old now. He’s just loves cats–he’s had several kitty companions over the years. When we go our current cat, Oreo, he became a new dog! The cat really perked him up and he is acting years younger.

Amber is cocker mix also. Is yours a reddish dog? Amber is what my husband calls a strawberry blonde. Amber is up in age also, I think she is about fourteen. I got her out of the pound in 1997. I had to put down two dogs in 1996 and it was hard for awhile before I was ready for another dog. I did have Casper then though and he got me through it.

2006-03-22 12:04:59

Sam is a tan/blonde color. If I have him shaved he looks like a golden retriever in the face. Unshaved he looks as wooly as a sheep. He has curly hair, but not the tight curls of a pure bred cocker spaniel. He’s bigger than a cocker spaniel, but smaller than a golden retriever. Like I said–mostly mix. He was abandoned by his former owner when he was 18 months old. Apparently, this woman just left town and left him with her ex boyfriend who did NOT want him. He just kept letting him out on purpose, hoping he would run away. One day he ended up in our yard. We found his owner and after taking him back home twice, the man finally told us not to bring him back again–just take him to the pound. Well, that was not an option!!!! So we adopted him. We had two older cats middle aged cats at the time, who have both since passed. He is very good natured. He and my daughter are the same age, and when she was small, her little hands sometimes pulled his fur instead of petting it. He never once even growled at her. He’s the most laid back animal I’ve ever seen!

That is how I got one of my babies, somebody dumped her off behind my husbands work, she was being fed spaghetti by the guys in the warehouse :-) took us 3 days to catch her, but now that we got her, we will never let her go. And now that she knows how good she has it, she doesn’t want to leave anyway. :-)
