Yes, Gheeri can’t have kittens anymore, either!

Thanks. Spot started pulling out his fur. I took him to the vet and she said it was stress related. So now he is on “kitty valium”.

That is so sad!

Was there any changes in your household (not to pry) but, new baby, fighting, new pets, lose of pets; things like that?

Did you have his/her skin checked for mites, tick or fleas?

I just hate to see kitties suffer.

Keep us posted.
Love, Linda and Kiara

Me and the kids moved back to my moms over a year ago. Other than that no changes. The vet said his skin looked beautiful.
I feel so bad for him. He is a half naked cat now. Mostly his belly, bottom of his tail and back legs. He has also pulled out half of his spot. Its been going on for about 1.5 months. I am very depressed about the whole situation.

Comment by Linda-Kiara
2006-03-23 09:33:05

Hi Again!

Call the vet and ask if Spot could take Chlorpheniramine (Chlortrimeton TM) some cats respond favorably to antihistamines. 1/2 tablet twice a day is an OK
dose for most adult cats

So I’ve been told.

What could it hurt - antihistamines work on human itches.

Danielle, I sent you some suggestions! Sorry I’m posting it everywhere, but I don’t know what you’ll read first!

Hi there! My little boy — a 9 yr. old orange tiger — went through this same thing. If you can’t identify any stressors in the enviroment, you might look into a food allergy. I had him on Wellness for a bit, and while it sounded wonderful (all sorts of fun, natural ingredients), there was obviously something disagreeing with him. As soon as I substituted a very simple chicken & rice kibble, he stopped his worrying and the fur grew right back. Made both of us VERY happy. So … it could be Spot’s developed the same sort of issue?

Just a thought! And Maizie is ridiculously cute. Tabbies rule.

Comment by Mogwai
2006-03-23 13:53:43

i agree, that just happened to my cat - the vet told me to slowly alter the food type (of Cat Chow) to something labelled as “Sensitive Skin” because she saw no sign of irritation, mites or complication. she assumed that it was related to the skin itself which is undetected. i have another cat, so the change in food would have to be suitable for her. the food must have done the trick because the vet did not prescribe any other form of treatment and Jaz is all better now…and Tawney wasn’t affected. snaps all around! i hope these suggestions help Spot! i know i was very concerned for Jaz and didn’t sleep for nearly three nights.

I was reading a cat book by a vet recently and he said giving cats medication like valium is a normal thing these days. It helps them get over what is stressing them, then they can wean them off of it. Can’t remember the name of the book now but I got it out of the library.

DANIELLE—MY CAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM—THE VET SAID HER SKIN LOOKED GREAT, TOO—SHE SAID SHE DIDN’T SEE ANY FLEAS—-BUT—-I HAD JUST ADOPTED A STRAY KITTEN AND THOUGHT MAYBE WE JUST WERE NOT SEEING THE FLEAS ON HER SINCE SHE WAS PURE BLACK—-SO I USED ADVANTAGE ON HER. IT WAS LIKE A MIRACLE! A FEW HOURS LATER I COUNTED 237 DEAD FLEAS ALL AROUND WHERE SHE HAD BEEN SLEEPING ! (YES, I ACTUALLY DID COUNT THEM —QUITE OBSESSIVE, EH?) YET, I NEVER SAW A FLEA ON HER OR ANYWHERE IN MY HOUSE. EVEN IF HE IS AN INDOOR CAT, AN OCCASIONAL FLEA CAN GET IN THE HOUSE–ESPECIALLY IF YOU’RE IN A WARM CLIMATE.

*ALSO*

IF IT’S NOT FLEA/SKIN RELATED, AND IS STRESS-RELATED, I’VE USED FELIWAY COMFORT ZONE FOR CATS (THEY MAKE IT FOR DOGS, TOO)—YOU CAN GET IT AT PETSMART—IT’S CHEAPER ON THEIR WEBSITE—IT’S A REALLY GREAT PRODUCT—I BUY THE DIFFUSER AND PUT A NEW REFILL IN EVERY MONTH—IT CALMS CATS/KITTENS WITH A SCENT THAT HUMANS CAN’T SMELL BUT CATS CAN SMELL. IT’S WORTH A SHOT…GOOD LUCK!

he’s been on frontline plus for a while. I think that might be a part of the prob. But the vet said no skin probs. I am going to try just about everything.

EEEEWWWW that many fleas?

Thanks againg for everyone’s help.

Horribly cute kitten! That should be illegal! That much cuteness could be very disruptive! What if I got distracted by thinking about how furry and snuggly that kitten is, and just walked into a wall?

Ok, probably that would be an improvement.

Hey wouldn’t it be cool if the Kittenmaster could post a new kitten every hour!

Comment by Lynn

Maizie’s so beautiful! I can watch a kitten or cat sleep for hours…or until I’m lulled into a nap just watching them! It’s like meditation, I guess…
I’m getting close to my May Kitty Adoption Event, but I’m a little nervous. I mean, I’ve had multi-cat
families before, but Emily’s been my One Girl, and she follows me everywhere…what would be the best way to introduce a new sibling to her? She seems to like other cats, they come to “visit” her through the terrace door! Any advice would be appreciated!

Comment by KRISTI RUDISH
2006-03-23 13:28:39

you can start by having the new comer in a comfortable kitty cage so that they can smell each other without actually coming into what could be harmful contact for you or the kitties i use to work for an animal shelter and foster lots of kitty babies as a matter of fact all of my babies are rescues of one kind or another. anyways depending on the temperment of the new arrival all should go well just be careful not bring any kitty disease into the house if you have spare rooms you can confine kitty in there i hope i was able to help.

Comment by Rose
2006-03-23 15:56:16

Thank you, Kristi, I really appreciate your advice - good point about checking the kitten’s health out - I plan to adopt from the County animal shelter which is NOT a no-kill shelter, so horrible to say, but the “turnover” is probably high…I admire your rescue efforts - Bless you!

also, after the initial introduction you should try feeding them on either sides of a door. That way they can smell each other but can’t fight over the food… make sure that you give your older kitty a space to herself! good luck
