I have a little guy who loves rubberbands too. So much, however, that he got sick last fall and had to have surgery, removing 14 from his little belly. Keep Special AWAY from the hair rubberbands! Better to be safe…

They are like scunci rubberbands not the “rubber” bands, They don’t break and are so tattered and fuzzy, they seem safe, Thank you!

One of my kitties has a passion for the exact same thing! They’re those ponytail holders that come in different colors. She never chews them - she insists that you throw them down the hall so she can “fetch” - over and over and over!

Our Buzz boy’s favorite thing in the world is Velcro. We still don’t understand why, but he is absolutely in ecstasy with it. It seems to be the only thing besides his people that he can consistently remember.

Our Nyx princess on the other hand, though, has her whole life revolving around the laser pointer. As soon as you pick it up, she starts tweaking all over the floor trying to find the spot. She is hopelessly addicted. Unfortunately, it’s out of batteries at the moment, so she’s been making sue with our feet instead :)

I’m not too keen on the scarf. She looks uncomfortable. Her fur looks incredibly soft though. She is a cute kitty with kitten fuzz. I have a medium hair too and it’s softer than a bunny’s.

    Sounds great!

Let’s get some more ideas that we can share about toys that can not harm our special little friends.

:) Sock with tsp of catnip inside
:) Paper lunch bag - they love the crunch sound it makes
    :) Medium size platic hair-rollers

Lets keep this going…we might find some really interesting new toys for our fur-babies

Well, judging from what they’ve swiped from me - crushed soap wrappers and pieces of dry pasta (especially rotini). Geoffrey likes to shred paper, so I guess a magazine left within reach might count as a toy. Every cat I’ve known has liked a large paper grocery sack - partly to play with and prtly to hide in.

Special is so pretty–she reminds me of my boyfriend’s old cat, Amelia, who was also a long-hair calico.

I do have to comment on the name, though :) Have you looked at the pet supply section at Wal-Mart? They have a whole line of products called “Special Kitty”–everything from litter to food. We started buying it as a joke for our poor stupid Buzz boy, because he is so “Special”, and now we prefer their litter because it makes so little dust.

Anyway, long story short, that was the first thing I thought of when I saw your kitty was named Special :)

What is it with cats and rubber bands? My three cats are obsessed with rubber bands, as were prior catsI had when I was younger. Of course, I don’t allow them to play with them—very dangerous! But if one is wrapped around the paper, they will try to snap it off over and over again with their teeth. Wackos! (Sorry, Bagheera, it’s true.)

    6. Playtime
Playtime is fun for cat and human, and it’s a great way to ensure that your cat gets important exercise! Interactive toys, such as laser pointers (avoid shining in the eyes!) and feather wands are a great way to bond with your cat while having a fun time. Safe play involves a few common sense precautions; If you notice your cat breathing heavily or panting, stop playing until her breathing returns to normal.
Do not leave toys out that your cat could choke on or swallow - this includes any string or toy containing string, elastic parts, or small possibly detachable parts. Never let your cat play with rubber bands or items smaller than a ping-pong ball. Do not leave string, yarn, or thread out, if swallowed it can wrap around intestines, requiring surgery or causing severe internal damage.
Excellent toys include: laser pointers (chase the red dot), feather wands (hide it in a drawer when unattended), stuffed catnip mice, Woolly Bullies made of real wool, old socks stuffed with catnip and knotted, cat dancer toy.

WOULD YOU LET YOUR (CHILD) PLAY WITH DANGEROUS TOYS?

THESE LITTLE HELPLESS FUR-BABIES NEED OUR HELP ALSO.
    I’m finished!!! Sorry Everybody…..:(

LK—-You’re right. I’ve always read that since cats have barbs on their tongues, that once something is on their tongues, it’s hard for them to spit it out. My girlfriend, who does a lot of sewing/knitting had a cat who got into her sewing basket and swallowed some string—had to have it removed by vet. A couple months later she developed a terrible eye condition and the vet could not figure out what the problem was. He referred her to a specialist and when he opened her mouth, he saw that the cat had swallowed a needle, which was in the back of her throat and was POKING INTO HER EYEBALL! After surgery, the cat was fine. I joked that her cat was trying to knit her a sweater.
Thanks for the reminder about being extra-cautious with our cats.

Please, please listen to this advice. My cat Sydney who has a talent for finding and stealing rubber bands ended up at the vet. We waited anxiously until she pooped and and there it was,
If she hadn’t done that she would have needed surgery or possibly die..Anything like rubber bands, string, they love to play with them but it could cost them their lives.

The kitty has lovely markings enjoy her.

What a cutie! She is adorable. I can’t believe that she let you put the scarf around her neck, by babies would have freaked.
Thankfully my babies don’t try to play with rubberbands. I have one that goes crazy over bottle caps. Everytime she hears the woosh sound from a soda bottle being opened, she comes running, and if you forget and set the cap down, its gone in the blink of an eye.

Special looks so content and cuddly. Very pretty long-haired calico with unique markings. My two girls like to play with shoelaces, twisted pipe cleaners, balls of foil, and pens/pencils. I don’t leave these things out when I can’t watch them knowing the medical problems that can result. We have play time, then move on to something else. They also have the catnip mice, feather wands, laser pointer, etc. By this time, they’re so worn out, it’s time for a 6 hour nap! As I’m writing this, my 10 year old calico, Murphy, is walking over the keyboard and in front of the screen. Oh, so cute ( & so in the way), but I love her!

Tip (from my doctor!) for people who like to make things for their kitties: little bitty afghans. They’re quick to crochet and you can make them in washable yarn in colors that go with the fur. Kitties love to lie on them and they keep the fur off of the chairs. Geoffrey has a bunch of them.

Hello, Kim1 here. Yes, you remember correctly, I do live in Arkansas. As for the storms, as I do live in the area that was getting all the bad weather, we actually got by with hardly any rain. The storms broke up when they got to our county, either went to the county to our North, or went to the county to our South. We did have the tornado watch, but that was it. We had a nice warm weekend if not a little wet. We’re new to AR and are hoping this is how it will be for most of the Spring. We’re in the Ozark mountains and so hopefully they’ll ack as a deflecter. Of course now that I say that…!

Snuggle Casper for me!! I really love him!!

The “milk ring” (the plastic gasket that you remove when you first open a jug of milk) is often a good, safe substitute for rubberbands.
Our cats love to chase it around.

All you kids with cats - I’m Jealous - JEALOUS!
Still, I’m at work now (you see how I earn my paycheck) and we do have a neighborhood cat - a calico, with bright yellow-green eyes, which are outlined in black, so it looks like she’s wearing eye liner. Her name is Princess and she lives up to her royal title. Alternating between rolling over invitingly and ignoring us is her MO. She is lovely.

That sounds so familiar! The fluffy calico who insinuated herself into our lives also has black rimmed eyes, and would also roll around in front of us seductively or trot away single mindedly, probably to kill some unsuspecting small rodent.
She loved us, and hated our other cats (of course), so now she lives happily with grandma and grandpa.

Beautiful cat! Love the scarf. Take good care of her. Give her safer toys, please.

What a beauty! She’s got two looks! If you take your hand, and cover the white & orange half of her face you get:
*Sexy FuZZ* and if you cover the black half of her face, you get: *Girl Next Door FuZZ* !

She looks like she’s enjoying the scarf and her picture being taken. She’s smiling!
