KiaraThis is Kiara. She is a three month old that we rescued, and are happy we did - she has brought our family much joy. In this picture she just finished playing and is all tucker out because she only weights in at two pounds. We love you little Kiara!

Oh I love how angelic they look when they’re sleeping! Is it just me, or can you forgive a kitten for any bad behavior of the day when you watch them sleep?

Also I was wondering (if anybody can answer this)- is it against the rules to post a reply if your own kitten is the star of the day? (This one’s not mine but I did send mine in!)

There are no rules about talking about your own baby. I don’t think. It would not hurt any. We could actually find out more that way. I personally would like to know more. I say go for it.

When I find a kitten sleeping like that, I just have the urge to quietly stroke their foreheads…Emily usually will twitch an ear or a whisker, but continues snoozing. It IS sort of like watching angels sleep…
Kiara is a puuurrrfectly beautiful baby - love her markings! Rosie’s right (as usual…!) The color coordination between Kiara and the sofa is Very complimentary!

    Hi Gang!

This is my little girly! I just love her so much, she is the cherry onto my sundae every day.

She was only 9 weeks old in this picture and now she is 5 1/2 months old. Her energy has not slowed any, but her big day at the vet is coming very soon and I’m sure if anything that will take the wind out of her sails.

We adopted Kiara from Stray Cat Blues from PETsMART back in January and have enjoyed her company every day. She is the QUEEN of the house now and my teenage daughter is still getting used to that little fact.

ROSIE … Kiara is not sitting on our couch, she has a quilted kitty pad that sits on our kitten floor. She was running and jumping and then she just stopped dead in her tracks and fell asleep half on her pad and didn’t move for about 1 hour and started all over again.

BTW - she now weighs in at (ready for this - 4 lbs).

I hope everyone thinks she is a sweetie pie, we do!

    Hi Nova,

Our PETsMART is located in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania about 40 minutes outside of Philadelphia. When we moved there it was considered the COUNTRY, and now it is built up with shopping malls (not so bad) and roads going every direction (really bad!).

I only have good things to say about Stray Cat Blues and Petsmart! How about you??

My PetSmart and shelter (SARL- stands for Salem Animal Rescue League) is in Salem, NH.

I haven’t checked out the PetSmart too throughly yet as it’s still pretty new, but I bought my old kitty a small condo there. She’s gone now to heaven, about 3 or 4 weeks ago (she was 16), and I’ve since adopted a 2-year-old and a 3-month-old from SARL. They both love the condo and my apartment, but the older one is more apt to hide when I’m around. Hopefully she’ll come around soon- I think she’s just afraid she’ll move again. She went from one home (the SARL folks call it a “foster home”) to the shelter to my home, all in the same day.

Nova, I am sorry for your loss. We lost our first cat Newton back in November. It does get better (the heartache) but you never forget how much joy and happiness our fuzzies bring us. I am glad that you jumped back in the saddle as I did and got another baby(ies). Best of luck to you and your fuzz-babies.

Thanks, Linda. It was tough at first because she was my first cat ever. And even though I knew no other cat would replace her, or her companion who I lost last year, I knew there were a lot of cats still looking for homes. So I went looking for a new cat within a week of her passing, originally just looking at the 2-year-old. Her “foster mother” from the shelter, who had been housing her for 9 months, told me she got along great with other cats. And since Joanie (the cat) had nursed other kittens besides her own and kept them alive, which was why she stayed at the foster home so long, her foster mother said a kitten would be a great addition so Joanie could still feel motherly. Enter Isis, the troublemaker kitten! I haven’t had a kitten in 13 years or so, so it’s definitely been an adventure in the last 2 weeks since I got both of them.

    Kiara is such a sweetie.

Our babies would drop and nap too. One time, when Kona was 4-6 months old, he was in a cardboard box which had holes in it and Maddie (~1 year old) was outside the box and they were batting at each other with their paws through the holes. A few minutes I looked again and Kona was asleep in the box and Maddie on the floor next to it!

    Hi Kiara!

You have a beautiful fuzzy girl.

No, my daughter named her Kiara from the Lion King (I believe). Her foster mom named her Felicia, which I really liked, but my daugther won the battle. Anyway, Kiara likes her name and she comes when you call her, which my husband thinks is a riot.

Our Petsmart too does adoptions from our local shelters. I keep hoping to adopt there, but the strays keep finding me, and some other person thinks 2 cats are enough!!

I’m so glad to finally meet Kiara, she is a lovely little girl. Isn’t it amazing how kittens only have 2 speeds–Total Destruction or Sound Asleep!

Volunteering is easy. Me and my kids 8 & 6 just started. We made a call and asked. Every Saturday we go between 2 and 4. We play with the cats and kittens. Take dogs for a walk. We even empty the dishwasher. It is so much fun. The only problem is (yes there is a problem) I want to take all of them home. So just call and ask. My kids can’t wait to go again.

Karen—-I’m sure you’ve heard about different organizations that allow you to bring your dogs into places like senior citizen communities and centers for the disabled—–but, a lot of them will allow you to bring cats, as well. I did this about 6 years ago with my Juliet (who is now in kitty heaven). Of course, they have to be relatively calm cats—the 3 I have now would never make the cut. It was one of the most joyous experiences of my life—- I used to take Juliet to a senior’s center, where she was the belle of the ball. Many of these people were gravely ill and hadn’t had pets in years…..they all had wonderful stories to tell of their childhood pets. It was a very moving experience. All I did was call the senior’s center near my home and arrange for a meeting with the activities director—-it was that simple!

HI EVERYONE. HERE IS THE LATEST IN THE HUMANE SOCIETY’S COMMENTS ON THE SEAL HUNT—-THE SECOND PHASE JUST BEGAN. PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING AND PASS ON TO FRIENDS AND FAMILY. THERE IS MUCH MORE INFO AT HSUS.ORG. THANK YOU, FELLOW ANIMAL LOVERS.

    Yesterday, the hunt in
the Gulf resumed, and it is estimated another 70,000 seals will be clubbed and shot to death over the next few days in this second phase of the hunt. Seals are dying at this moment by the tens of thousands, just for their fur. And by the time this year’s hunt closes in May, more than 325,000 baby seals will be dead in total, each one sacrificed for the relatively few dollars furriers pay for their skins.

    How You Can Help
The Canadian government and fishing industry have demonstrated repeatedly that they don’t care that the world condemns the seal hunt for its cruelty. A boycott of Canadian seafood will show them that the cost of continuing the seal hunt is simply too high. Already more than 400 restaurants and at least 280,000 individuals have pledged not to buy some or all seafood from Canada. Please print out this pledge form, take it to all the restaurants that sell seafood in your neighborhood, and ask them to sign it.

By forbidding The HSUS to observe this second phase of the hunt, the Canadian government is clearly trying to keep the world from seeing the cruelty it allows to take place on the ice. It is gambling that international outrage will abate and that the world will forget the hideous images we have already been able to broadcast to every continent. But the Canadian government will lose that gamble. With your support, I know that we can keep the pressure on Canada to end its shameful slaughter.

I want to thank you so much for your commitment to saving the seals. Remember that you can stay in touch with the campaign with up-to-the-minute news, videos, and actions throughout the hunt at http://www.ProtectSeals.org.

    Sincerely,

    Rebecca Aldworth
    Director of Canadian Wildlife Issues

Sorry, Danielle (and everyone else)—I should have been clearer—-All the information, is available at *HSUS.ORG* And, I really don’t want to ruin anyone’s day, but there is a video that captures the true brutality of this hunt—not just to the animals, but to the HSUS workers. Without witnesses, this hunt may be rationalized as fisherman doing their job. But, thanks to HSUS and The Humane Society International, we now know it is barbarism.

Lets all send him our thoughts and a lot of it! I wonder how his wife and two children feel about the slaughter of these migratory seals. They don’t even belong to Canada. The seals belong to all of us.

Thanks so much for that, Linda. This is something we can’t sweep under the carpet. Did you see the video?? You know, while watching it, I wasn’t just thinking of the seals being brutalized, I was also thinking that these men who do this must be savages. To club and skin baby seals alive, while their mother is looking on is inhuman. All for 5% of their yearly income. Their savagery is unconscionable. I don’t think people realize what a blood-bath it is. The sealers rarely even wear jackets—-they actually work up a dripping- sweat from the killing.

Yes I did watch the video and I had tears in my eyes. My 17 year old son walked in and said “What the %$&#*” he was P-O’d. I am going to send the PM an email everyday until he hears what we are all saying. I hope he has a hugh inbox. ha-ha

So Mr. Prime Minister - YOUV’E GOT MAIL! and MAIL and MAIL……

If we all do this, maybe if anything he will atleast think about what is going on. Unfortunetly, while we are sending our emails to him, the hunters are………….can’t think of it…….just really makes me *MAD*!

Love your heart, Linda! As the old saying goes, “Knowledge is Power” SO many people (even people who are animal lovers on the site) don’t realize the brutality of this hunt. It’s up to people like us to inform everyone we can of this horror!

Linda your Kiara is such a sweetie pie and a cutie and lovey. Am I wrong or is she a little spoiled with her real nice cuddly pad which looks just a fuzzy as she is. Even though she is getting a little older, at five and half months she is still a kitten and probably just as cuddly as she was at three months.
