*Finding Nature In Your Neighborhood*
Because both cities and tightly packed suburbs offer wildlife bountiful nooks and crannies in which to hide, it can be difficult to spot the animals that live in our midst. Many thrive among paved streets, sidewalks, buildings, parking lots, and high-rises. There are animals in abundance burrowing in the soil of center medians and tiny backyard gardens, making nests in the trees that line broad and busy avenues, and buzzing round the flowers that beautify our parks. To find these creatures, we only need to stop, look, and listen. Nature’s drama is continually playing out on the window ledges where weary birds stop to roost, in the shadowy places where cautious nocturnal mammals wait for night’s mantel to fall, and the fountains where playful waterfowl splash and frolic. In observing the animals that share our habitat, we become a part of their beautiful, complex, and exciting world.
Season by season, cities offer diverse ecosystems for you to explore. If your search for urban and suburban wildlife is challenging, try to look at your community with an animal’s eyes. Where there are shrubs and flowers, insects such as butterflies, ladybugs, beetles, and spiders can usually be found. The insects, in turn, attract the birds who feast upon them. Even the smallest green spaces are hosts to squirrels, rabbits, chipmunks, and moles. Decorative awnings offer falcons a place to raise their young. At night, a different community of animals wakens to the world. Raccoons, skunks, and possums emerge to examine our human leftovers for edibles. Even pets feel the call of the wild-it’s not uncommon for well-fed cats in colorful collars to stalk the streets in search of prey. Signs of habitation, like nests or hives, and audible evidence, like chirps, will help you find them.
Recognizing that you share your city with a wide range of animals can make you feel like a part of the grand circle of life and help you appreciate the importance of a healthy urban environment. You can admire the hardiness and adaptability of the urban animal while developing a sense of stewardship that inspires you to become their champion. The shrill calls of birds, the hum of bees, and the sweet squeaks of city-dwelling mammals can be a symphony that help you develop a deeper connection with the nature world.
So beautiful and serene - that kittie looks like a jewel, all onyx and sapphires.

Loved the blog, although my understanding was only piecemeal!
Jennifer Jo - Love your site! Especially the part about “If you’re wondering…” I do cat rescue and have anywhere from 10 to 15 cats in my home at a time, so I know excactly what you mean! (Love your sister’s site too!) :o)
Black kitties and cats are the greatest talkers. They have lots to meow about. This one here is so cute. I love how delicate the nasal features are. I could imagine her little motor purring away.
Please help me! I went to bed last night at midnight and still the TDK still hadn’t been posted. I am in the Atlanta area and have yahoo. Do you have any contacts there to find out why when you post it at or around 10AM I still don’t have access 14 hours later.
I would appreciate any help that you could give me.
I have the same problem didn’t get see till this morning. xshortymacdanger@yahoo.com when you find out why please email me. Would like to know why yahoo has trouble showing daily kitten sometimes. KB in AL.
It’s not something I can help with - each new entry goes online at the same time, and Yahoo’s system should pick up on the changes and display the new entry.
Michi is so beautiful. Kisses on her tummy from me!
HELLO FUZZ FAMILY! Went to Spring, TX — about a 45 minute drive. Met Marilynn Smith, her daughter, grandsons & grand-daughter. The most charming, sweet family I have ever met. Grace LOVES her new mommy — Marilynn! She is being given the “royal” treatment! As she should! Pete & Foster were “surprises” for the oldest grandson (13 1/2) Austen — he has had their pics posted on his computer for a while. I was so impressed with Austen & his brother Parker. Very gentle with the kitties! Love the men who love cats! The grand-daughter, Kiera, is 5. Such a beauty! She was having such fun with the kitties! I felt so wonderful leaving them because I knew that they were in their “forever” homes! The only tears I shed were tears of happiness for them. I do miss them, but I KNOW that they are where they belong.
Rose: Marigold & Brutus are doing great! I’ll give you a call tomorrow!
ML, I’m so glad that Missy is doing better!
MEOWS, PURRS, AND LOTS OF LOVE FROM THE TAYLOR “CAT” HOUSE TO EVERYONE! THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH!!
I had a cat named Michina when I was married to my Peruvian husband. That was 38yrs ago. He said that they call kitties by saying “Michi, michi, michi!”, instead of here kitty kitty. Little cute black fluffins!!
Finally, a blog worth following: dailykitten.com. I’ll send it to all my cat-loving friends. To cover all the spectrums, add kitty videos—or do you already have kitty videos?
Bon: does Bono really hate cats? I’ve never liked the guy: he’s just EVERYWHERE! There’s no way to get rid of Bono. Maybe he’ll be eaten by a pack of big cats while gallivanting across the globe–trying to be everywhere at once. What sweet irony. I’m going to research Bono’s preference toward cats. I hope your not getting my hopes up & setting me up for a huge letdown: Bono hating cats. I’ve always disliked the guy but without any impetus other than a gut wrenching feeling. His cat distain will finally give merit to this visceral and perpetual state of annoyance with Bono.
Sorry, for being silly but kitties bring out silliness and frivolity & and Bono raises … nothing important.
Kute Kitteh!
What a pretty girl…those blue eyes are stunning!

As long as there are kittens, they just keep getting cuter and cuter! I can’t understand people who don’t love cats!
I agree.
