Chicken Ball & Screamer

Chicken Ball & ScreamerBrother and sister, Chicken (as she has come to be called) and Screamer found a box of Christmas cards, knocked it over, and settled in. They slept in that box together for weeks — until they no longer fit.

My Daffy Taffy loved plastic grocery bags also. He got one caught in his hook for his tag and ran up and down the hall with a bag of craft items thankfully nothing was breakable. I was laughing so hard it was hard to catch him.
Those babies look so tiny and sweet.

I am so glad you are feeling better. A good laugh does wonders for a person and even a good cry does too. I pretty much ball my eyes out whenever I read the Rainbow Bridge poem thinking about my kitty boys waiting for me in that wonderful place. I don’t know your situation but my sister-in-law is bi-polar and she has to have her meds regulated periodically. Each time she has a breakdown she comes back stronger from the building blocks of what she learned before. Never look on it as a failure just a very hard learning experience.

*Chinese dog massacre*

Every animal lover who is reading this: There is a second impending dog kill–this time in east China’s Shandong Province, which has an estimated 500,000 dogs.

Please go to the following link, where you can send an email message to Zhou Wenzhong, China’s Ambassador to the United States, to urge his government to implement humane animal programs.

And thanks to everyone who has since sent letters and made phone calls to his offices in the past few days. That information was posted last week.

Thanks Dee for once again raising awareness about this matter. It is amazing to me that in general the mass media has not covered ANY aspect of this story-why is that?? The only places that are talking about it are PETA and the Humane Society. The letter that I sent to my local newspaper columnist has not been printed and nothing has been written in that paper either. While I know that we have bigger and more threatening world issues occurring at the moment, this is a non-acceptable situation. Please, please call and write…and write to your local news organizations, call your local radio programs. Most people don’t even know that this is going on in China! Fuzz pack, we enlist your help as well.

2006-08-10 12:17:02

That was very well put, Kathleen. Not only am I surprised that the media isn’t covering this atrocity more, but I’m surprised that the “Fuzz Pack” isn’t commenting on this more. We, the animal lovers, have a perfect forum to discuss this issue. And while looking and commenting on these beautiful kittens soothes the soul, to look the other way when a country is brutally killing over half a million dogs (many of them pets taken away from their owners) , deadens it.

Hi Dee,

Just wanted to let you know that I emailed Zhou Wenzhong, China’s Ambassador to the United States and sent the message along to all my friends. I really don’t think it will do any good, but it is alway WELL worth a try. This makes me sick to think this happens. Do we know what ever came of the baby seals that were going to be slaughtered? Did you stay on top of that? Linda-Kiara

Hi, Linda—-you haven’t been around lately—I’ve missed you! Thanks for spreading the word. Even if we can’t prevent this second dog slaughter, hopefully throughout worldwide pressure, we CAN get China to start paying attention to animal welfare–hopefully nothing like this will ever happen again. China is starting to become a country of animal lovers, but a lot of times it takes years to change the general mindset of a country in reference to its treatment of animals.
Do you remember when we were kids, there was practically no such thing as a completely indoor cat? Now, almost every vet will recommend keeping your cat indoors at all times. We just have to keep the pressure on China to change their mindset. Especially with the 2008 Olympics coming up. This could be a big “black eye” for them.
About the seals—over 335,000 were killed this year. For fur! Again, we can’t turn away. Here is a link for a great organization.

Hi Dee and Linda,
Thank you both for vocalizing against these two horrific events. There was an editorial in the San Francisco Chronicle yesterday basically saying that yes, the dog slaughters were horrific but no more so than Americans’ treatment of animals prior to slaughter. In many cases this is true, however, that is NOT the point. Comparisons like this devalue what is happening.
Dee-how you ever thought of starting a site like Kat’s Cat to highlight these blatant issues of animal cruelty and raise awareness? I would be more than willing to help in any capacity that I could.

Comment by Dee from Tampa
2006-08-10 14:37:59

Kathleen—in reference to the article—
The comparison between the Chinese dog slaughter and America’s treatment of animals prior to slaughter is very weak, and not logically based. First of all, China has no animal welfare laws. That is why it is legal for most of these dogs to be clubbed to death. Could you imagine that (knowingly) happening here? Or in the UK? It would not—because of protective laws concerning animals–both wild and domestic. Second of all, this dog cull could have been prevented through widespread rabies vaccinations—programs the Chinese are not quickly and broadly implenting to ensure this massacre will never happen again. Third of all, there are “mass slaughters” in this country, and in the UK, to feed people. Without sounding too cavalier, it could be said that our livestock die “for a purpose”. And we have laws to protect our livestock, as well. Over half a million dogs will die in China because no one will vaccinate them against rabies! These are not rabid dogs—-the government is afraid they will contract rabies and spread it to humans. The HSUS said Wednesday that it will give China $100,000 to vaccinate these dogs against rabies, if it promises to immediately stop the slaughter. They have not accepted the offer as yet. It’s great to see our donation money being used this way. We really can make a difference—eventually.

As far as starting up a site like Kat’s Cat—I would love doing that—just not very functional about setting up these things. I’ll put that on my to do list! And thanks so much for your offer of help, Kathleen. If there were more people like you out there, animal cruelty would be a distant memory.

These two pretties look very new! But C for Christmas Card is also C for Cat - smart, eh? I had a puss called Orange who used to sleep in the stock boxes (I made dolls’ knitwear). Which one? O for Outdoor Weight, nach. Perhaps your two chose Sh for Schmoozle, which is what you do to their little tummies if you get the chance.

The United States Humane Society is willing to offer China $100,000.00 to give the dogs rabie shots instead of killing them. The article was on the yahoo.com web page yesterday or the day before yesterday. China must give the shots to get the money.

Jodean so glad to hear you are feeling better. I pray it will stay that way.

Last but not least, these are such cuties and I personally think they deserve different names besides the screamer chicken ball.

Today at work, I had the worst day. I emailed my friend and wrote this:

“I’m so upset right now, that either someone in this office is going to totally get cut by my angry hand or I’m going to lose my shit in public. The only thing that will save my attitude at this point is to look at pictures of kittens. No kittens, no mercy”

Had only I seen this site earlier today!! I love it! And it makes me miss my cats!

Sorry you had such a rotten day….My best friend sent me a Bally inflatable punching bag…it is only $20.00 and she purchased it at Wal mart…it has saved my life. When I have a crappy day, I come home and punch the #$#%% out it.
It helps and I don’t hurt anyone or doing anything that I will regret or that will get me fired.
After I calm down, I look at the daily kitten, have a nice bubble bath, and thank God for all of my blessings.
I hope at least one of these suggestions will help you.

Yes there is a lot of crap in this world, but there is so much good too….
go to a hospital maternity ward and look at new born babies,
go for a walk and try to figure out how many shade of green there are
listen to some ’soul’ music
bake bread
laugh
blow bubbles
tickle someone
buy a bouquet of flowers and send to to a seniors home, or better yet, go and play cards with a senior

Peace!!

What great suggestions you have your stuff together and probably helped others today. So much of life is how you react to it. I had a mini stroke in January and everyone was shook up but me. My doctor said I had a 30% chance of having a stroke in the next year. I told him great that means I have a 70% chance I won’t I like my odds better!
