What a sweet baby…and what a scary beginning. In all likelihood, Peanuts is a girl because male calicos are very rare.

OMG!Poor little baby, the worry in his/her eyes just breaks my heart. No little creature should start life this way. But thank God for you.Sweet little Peanuts doesn’t have to worry anymore. Would love to know how he/she is doing……..give her lots of belly kisses please :))

I agree - very young with a worried look makes me want to cry. It makes you wonder what they’ve gone through in their short lives. I’m sure she’ll be a happy secure kitten soon with a loving family to take care of her.

What a little angel, I am so glad that people get put in the path of these poor abandoned fuzzes, why can’t everyone value the love these animals bring into the world.

Thank God she was rescued…poor little peanut! She’ll be a wonderful, loving pet for her new parents. She has been through so much, she’ll need lots of extra belly kisses and hugs. With hope, one day, her harrowing experience will be but a dim memory…

Hi Bev, sounds like you have a kind and loving heart. Visit your local animal shelter they usually have kittens and rescues that need love and a home desperately. Good luck in getting a new kitten.

My, my tricolors (tortie/calico) are certainly being featured this week here on the Daily Kitten!

I agree that Peanuts is almost certainly a girl — the odds of a calico being male are something like 100-to-1 against. To be tricolor, a kitty needs a gene for red on one X-chromosome, and a gene for black on the other X chromosome. Since normal males have only one X chromosome (with their other sex chromosome being a Y chromosome), they can’t be tricolored. Tricolor males generally have some sort of chromosomal abnormality, like three sex chromosomes instead of the normal two.

OK, end of genetics lecture. Peanuts is very cute! Please give her tons of love!

Calicos and tortoiseshells kitties seem to be most prettiest, too. My Baby-girl is tortie.

    she? is a cutie
our first cat came to us in about the same way, my mom saw her crossing a busy street near our home, and pulled over to do something about it. she made it across okay, but was to tiny to jump up on the curb ( she was about 5 weeks old at the time ). she came home with us, and we never did find her owner, so we had our first pet. that was almost 30 years ago, but i hope she is up at the bridge waiting for me someday. not trying to be sad, she had a long and good life and though i still miss her i have 2 sweet babies to help me remember her.

Casper’s mom - just out of curiosity, is your cat white? I used to have a white male himalayan (i think that’s what he was) named Casper and when I moved into a new apt, he jumped from the second story balcony and ran off, never to be seen by me again. He had just been given a lion cut and he looked so cute; I really hope someone took him in and nothing bad happened to him. I never got any response to my “lost” ads.

Definitely a she for genetic reasons already posted. Absolutely adorable and an fortunate little kitty.
And it is not certain from the picture whether she is calico or tortie and white, which is a different colour pattern.
If the tortoiseshell pattern is broken up by white, Calico,
If the tortoiseshell pattern is continuuous, but the tummy or feet are white, Tortie and White.

More genetics… White is the absence of color in a cat. I was told by a friend that in the fetal cat the pigment cells are located in or near the spine (forgot which). The cells then migrate outward which is why a cat will often have little white but any white you do see will be furthest from the spine, the belly, paws or tip of the tail.

As for this tri color….she is beautiful and absolutely deserving of lots of kisses. She almost looks as if she’s about to cry but I hope that with every day she forgets another day of her not having a person to love and hug her.
Please give her a kiss and scritch for me.

I believe that homeless kittens who are rescued know how lucky they are to have found a loving, safe home and they seem to be extra lovable kitties. And we’re lucky to have such wonderful furpals.
