Aeryn SunAeryn’s mummy was abandoned when she was pregnant. My coworker found the litter about a week or so after they were born. Aeryn started off very shy and didnt like anyone. Now she is the most cuddly cat I’ve ever had.

Yes, I’ve made the Kitty Litter Cake. It was great fun and lots of laughs. Be sure to soften a couple of the Tootsie Rolls and hang them over the edge of the pan. It adds to the grossness.
    Try it you’ll like it!

That is one pretty kitty (or, probably, *BEAUTI-FUZZ*)

Sorry if you’ve seen this before, but it was in my cat protection charity newsletter this morning:

If I asked God for a tree,
    He’d give me a forest
If I asked God for a stream,
    He’d give me an ocean
If I asked God for a cloud,
    He’d give me the sky
But if I asked God for an angel,
    He’d give me a cat

The only author given is ‘Joe (aged 14)’; I don’t know where they got it from. I just tried to phone and ask, but the line was busy. I will try again, or you might like to email them - see the website, which has lots of lovely cat photos, too!

Since I moved into a new apartment in August, I thought this was very funny and TRUE!

*Ten tips for cats who are forced to relocate with their owners*

    1. If you sense your owner plans to move, be on your best behavior.

Revive those terminally cute poses you used to get yourself adopted. Let your owner sleep past 5 AM. Keep your paws out of your owner’s hair.

Use the litterbox religiously. If you must throw up, head for the bathroom and skip the windowsills.

You do not want your owner to entertain thoughts like, “I don’t want to ruin the beautiful floors in our new home,” or, “You know, it’s really hard to rent an apartment when you have a cat.”

    2. Here’s a great game. Jump into an empty box, stick your head out and hold the pose while your owner runs around looking for a camera. As soon as she appears, finger on snap button, turn around and point your tail at the camera.

You’ll learn some new cuss words, guaranteed.

    3. The arrival of the moving van is your cue to hide. You can have lots of fun with this one.

Your owner will run around frantically, cursing the movers: “You idiots! You left the door open! Now little Furball is gone forever!”

After they’ve wasted an hour running around the neighborhood, appear out of nowhere and begin to wash. When they shriek, “Oh there she is!” and try to hug you, summon an aloof glare and wash your face again.

Bonus tip: If you really want to freak them out, hide in your cat carrier.

    4. As you begin your twelve-hour drive, remember that your owners would rather listen to your yowling than to the latest music or the local weather and news. Keep it up!

    5. Demand a litterbox break as soon as your owner begins driving on a road where it is absolutely impossible to pull over. A narrow bridge with bumper-to-bumper traffic is a good choice.

    6. Motel etiquette calls for you to sit in the window, looking absolutely adorable. Encourage passers-by to tap on the glass at all hours, especially if your owner has forgotten to draw the curtains.

If you suspect your owners have snuck you into the room without checking, begin yowling as soon as they try to move you to a more secluded spot.

    7. When it’s time to hit the road at 6 AM, you don’t want to be found. If you can position yourself under the queensize bed, out of reach of your owner’s arms, you can delay everyone’s travel plans for a good half hour. The award for the most creative hiding place goes to the feline who wedged herself between mattress cover and springs.

Caution: This only works if your owner really adores you. If you can’t be found in twenty minutes, you might be looking for a new home.

    8. Insist on being present when boxes are unpacked. Jump into each box to make sure the contents arrived safely. If your owners lock you into the bathroom “so kitty can’t escape,” use the opportunity to practice your singing. The movers need entertainment, too.

    9. Demand to test each windowsill of the new home. If you still have claws, test the curtains to see if they’ll hold your weight. Fifteen pounds? Should be no problem.

Miniblinds offer limitless opportunities for new versions of torture-the-owner. How many can you bend? How about breaking off a little hole for your head to peek through? Cute.

    10. Encourage your owner to get a dog. You may never have to move again. “Honey, we can’t move. We could never afford another place where Spot could have a yard.”

    Evangeline—
My cats drive me nuts with the blinds! If the horizontal blinds in my bedroom are closed, they will “break” through them to sit on the window sill. I try to leave them open most of the time, but one day last week I had forgotten—I was worried all day that I would come home and the blinds would be ripped apart. But, thankfully, they had left them alone. I still think they are messing with me….

    *Hey Dee*
Yep they are messing with you. You know they really are like kids. They want attention and don’t seem to care if it is negative attention! I think that’s why they left your blinds alone when you weren’t there, mom wasn’t there to scold them, lol…….

Christie’s late post (yesterday–#57) is very relevant. While bengals are beautiful cats, they may be more than some people can handle. Does anyone remember when the movie Lassie came out about 10 years ago? So many people decided they wanted a collie without researching what taking care of a collie entails, that animal shelters had a steady stream of collies forfeited by their owners.

She has the cute little pink nose also, i cant get enough of it! those moving tips are great, i completely get the blinds. what is with that? and why always the little pieces at the ends? also, i was wondering if anyone knows what a main coon looks like? i think my torte might be part cause she has the big poofy and has a muted meow alot of the time. have a great day everyone!

Maine Coons are one of the largest of the cat breeds. (Mine was a healthy 28 pounds and was tall enough to dispense his own ice out of the fridge door) They have longer silky hair rather than poofy hair, generally have tufts of fur coming out of the tops of their ears and more fur in their ears like bobcats do and fur between their toes. Coloring can vary, but tabby striping (in all its colors) is very common. Here is the link to the cat fanciers Maine coon FAQ.

    http://www.fanciers.com/breed-faqs/maine-coon-faq.html

The FAQ lists their size as up to 18 pounds, but our big boy grew in height and length until he was well into his 5th year and was a big, solid, muscular cat with enormous feet.

Personality wise they are wonderful cats. They are calm and loving. They have doglike personalities in that they will meet you at the door and follow you around. They just want to hang out. They are not big jumpers or climbers. (That doesn’t mean they wont get on the couch or bed though) They do well as an only cat as they really bond with a person. They are great with male owners as they are more buddy than baby. They are a truly american breed that developed naturally and has been recognized for more than 100 years.

sigh makes me want another one.

I am a retired Maine Coon breeder. I used to show in TICA and ACFA and usually had two or three litters a year. I was mentored by another breeder and wouldn’t encourage anyone to go into breeding unless they have a lot of $$ and a lot of time and are dedicated to perserving and improving the breed. I am crazy for Maine Cooners, but get too attached to them!

Aeryn Sun is one beautiful cat. She looks like she’s focused on something, the next shot would be of her jumping to catch it. i like her name, too.

–Dee, do you see how much your public loves you? I think you need to set up your own blog. Try a yahoo 360 account or myspace. I think they are pretty easy to figure out. I know I would check out your blog daily.
–Brandi Lee, I sent you a quick comment on your 360 page because I couldn’t figure out how to send you a message. (I’m a computer illiterate. lol) Your kitties are just too cute for words.
–Chester, we need you to come back and make us laugh with your jokes.
BTW, Kristen how are you feeling? I don’t remember seeing any comments since she said she was sick.
