This is Missy. We were on our way to Colorado for a visit, and Missy got bored being a passenger and decided to take over for dad - she does what she whats all the time.

OK. Please everyone don’t jump on me but I must say that kitties belong in a carrier when travelling. Even at 5 miles an hour a sudden stop and kitty becomes a missile…..
I think it’s sweet that Missy has an indulgent daddy but she has the mental capacity of a very small child so like all kiddies the human or fuzzy variety it is up to us to protect them. Hope you agree.
They can also get under the driver’s feet and get caught in the foot pedals, which puts everyone in danger. Missy should practice her driving when the car is parked.
I was about to type nearly the same thing. Judging by the scenery, the car *appears* to be moving–albeit slowly–and that’s frightening. My cats have wriggled away enough (at the vet’s etc) for me to know that it only takes a second, especially when you’re concentrating on other things (like driving).
Missy wouldn’t look so cute under the brake pedal or hitting her head on the windshield. :-/ Unfortunately for me, there’s nothing cute about this pic.
I have to concur with this. I really do. Kittens get under foot pedals in a godawful hurry. I’ve had to drive with a loose cat once or twice, and it’s no fun.
I agree with you whole-heartedly, Evangeline. My cats have never ridden loose like that. I had one who I harnessed, but I always seatbelted the harness. I have read/heard of stories of cats getting scared and hiding under the brake or gas pedal.
Besides, I would have liked a look at her pretty face.
AWE MY GOSH THIS CAT IS VERY CUTE I CANT BELIEVE THESE MAMMALS ARE THE MOST ADORABLE THINGS I’VE EVER SEEN BUT GUESS WHAT I HAVE 3 BEATIFUL CATZ MERRY,PRE,LYNK THERE ALL VERY BEATIFUL EVERY CAT IS AND I LOVE EACH ONE SMALL,BIG,FURRY,MEDIUM FUR,HAIRLESS, SKINNY,FAT,ONE EYED SYCOPIST.

THEY ARE ALL VERY DECICENT WHEN YOU MEET THEM!
What an adorable picture. I’ll bet little Missy has a very cute personality. She sure is adorable in that picture. It’s nice to know I don’t have all the spoiled kittens!
Although I agree that cat’s (especially kittens) should be in a carrier in the car, I dont think that the car is acutally moving because I think that if he was really driving he wouldnt be holding on to the kitten, he’d be holding the steering wheel.
Either way it’s an *adorable* pic of a kitty that looks just like mine when she was that little!
Wow—that is very odd, isn’t it? The speedometer reads 40 mph with no keys in the ignition? Do you think the kitten hot-wired the car and we are witnessing a crime???
Dee,
If you look very closely at the ignition, there is a key and it is in the “on” position, there’s just no key ring attached. 2 other things: my wife & I have gotten back together, and we are happy again, and 2: did you happen to hear John Kerry’s latest verbal fiasco? OH! I see the key now!
You’re back together! That is great! Just in time for the holidays. I am happy for you, Thomas. It’s really nice to see people working hard on a marriage worth saving.
And, as a news junkie, of course I’m aware of John Kerry putting his foot in his mouth. But, his response afterward has been worse than his snarky comment!

Don’t diss the folks in Pittsburgh at Heinz just because John Kerry has a pyscho wife. Heinz products are superior to all others, and a lot of people would lose their jobs. They work hard in Steel Town.

Argh! I hate how Middle America (welcome to my hometown) thinks that the solution to everything that you don’t agree with is to BAN it! Like Christie said, don’t take out your displeasure with Teresa Heinz on the people who are trying to make a living. Or, maybe you should write a letter to John Kerry or your local newspaper telling how you feel instead of passive agressively taking action.
Anyway, this site is about cute kittens and not politics. The kitten is cute! Focus!

At the risk of anyone throwing tomatoes at me (Heinz tomatoes?), Thomas feels strongly about the Kerry comment because he is an ex-Marine and served in the first Gulf War. If you read Tom’s posts regularly, you’d realize he is a very decent human being. I’m certain his comment was anti-Kerry and not anti-Heinz or employees of Heinz.

You have a good point. I am not familiar with Tom, and I thought he was one of those people who slaps a yellow magnet on the back of their minivans and calls it supporting our troops. I have a brother in Iraq right now, and so I appreciate very much what you have done for our country, Thomas. I hope you’ll accept my apology for jumping to conclusions.

Rorye,
No offense taken, and I realize this is a kitten site, but so many in our “family” here share the same view. I have a male ginger and a female tux, and they are both joys.
You’ll know if you wind up behind me in traffic, as you’ll see a South Carolina flag, jump wings, a “proud to be a veteran” magnet, and a “MARINES” magnet.
I, too, still have bros in Iraq, and I would volunteer to join them in a heartbeat, if they’d take me back. SEMPER FI!

Nice try, but your “let’s keep this site a kitten site” comment was totally negated by the disrespectful comment about our President and I for one don’t appreciate it.
What I do love is coming here every day and looking at the precious kittens. I love that there are people out there as cat and kitten-*crazy* as me. Thanks to whoever keeps this site updated with kitten photos.

Hi Dee ! You are right about that last cat sticker comment. There’s nothing better than having a cat in your lap, unless it’s five at once! I’ve done that for the last three days. I sat down and they all piled up in my lap! Hope you are doing well.
I know I have a lot to do,
So many things - see them through.
There are clothes to clean, grass to mow,
Cookies to bake, seeds to sow.
But I really can’t do all these things in a snap.
Because, you see, there’s a cat in my lap.
He stretches and rolls and gives me a wink,
From his sleepy gold eyes - just a small blink.
I smooth his long tail and tickle his tummy,
He yawns and purrs to tell me that’s yummy.
The telephone rings. The paper boy taps.
No move do I make. There’s a cat in my lap.
Bright sunlight dances across the floor,
To warm my small friend just a bit more.
A happy prisoner am I in my chair -
Some moments of peace - not a care.
I think I’ll take a little nap,
With this soft, furry ball, a cat in my lap.

THANKS, Dee, for the cute poem. Your right, I loved it. That would be me. Multiple cats on lap! (M.C.O.L!) LOL I seen a comic strip addressing that problem! It was in a “Pickles” comic strip.
I don’t know about my cat having an answering machine but she does know how to work mine. It is so funny to be watching TV and suddenly have your messages start playing. Also when I call home from work I often have to ask my mom to turn the machine back on because Monkey decided she was tired of listening to it.
I’m sure mostly everyone has heard that a great animal activist, Bob Barker, is retiring from The Price is Right in June, after 35 years. I’m posting a part of yesterday’s article.
——-
Barker says he’ll be even more active in animal advocacy issues. His commitment to protecting animals led to Barker’s signature Price sign-off: “Help control the pet population. Have your pets spayed or neutered.” His DJ&T Foundation, named for his late wife, Dorothy Jo, and his mother, Matilda (Tilly), gives financial assistance to organizations that spay and neuter dogs and cats.
The host of the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants for decades, Barker left in 1987 when they refused his request to stop giving furs as prizes.
My cat Sylvester (Tuxedo Cat just like the cartoon character) doesn’t like the carrier and so I thought just once I would let him out as I was driving a Toyota Rav4 and thought he would enjoy it. Big mistake. He was all over the car and down by my feet. I pulled over as soon as I could and put him back in the carrier. It was an accident waiting to happen and I didn’t want anything to happen to him.
I like the bumper sticker posting and love the very last one. There is nothing like having a kitty on your lap, a cup of hot chocolate (Ghiradelli chocolate of course) with whip cream and a good book! Such comforts.
I’m not minimizing the safety issue, but this picture is so damned cute. Also, now there are car seats for cats that hate being in the carrier, but they have to be willing to wear a harness.
Talking about cats that are spoiled, there’s a site called “Pet of the Day” and one time the “Cat of the Day” was telling the story of how he was adopted from an animal shelter. He referred to it as “getting a house and slaves for Christmas.”
Very cute and sweet kitty. I can see why she is spoiled. Lots of cuddles and kisses little one.
Caution: Don’t try this at home. Missy is a professional stunt kitty. Ha ha.
Happy November everyone!
I’m giving the photographer the benefit of the doubt and assuming that the car’s not moving–because frankly, if I was in the front seat of a moving car being driven by a man holding a kitty and not the steering wheel, my focus would be on issues other than composing a picture!
So–again, assuming a stationary vehicle–this is a cute pic and an adorable little kittycat!!
The first time I ever travelled with a cat, I was driving my cat to my grandma’s to board for a weekend. I didn’t have a carrier, so my boyfriend rode along holding the kitten. Well, that lasted about a mile, whereupon Kitty decided that the best place to be was “under the brake pedal”. Once I got the car stopped–I have no idea how I did it!!–we stopped and got a box for kitty to ride in. That was a mistake I plan to make only once!
By the way…those of you who read yesterday’s comment, about the kitten I found in the gutter… unfortunately the news isn’t good. I got a call from the vet this morning; poor little girl went over the Rainbow Bridge last night. I’m comforted by the fact that she spent her last hours safe and indoors, and didn’t die in some more-horrible way like being run down on the road. I now have two more kitties to rescue; my neighbor decided that she doesn’t want her cats anymore, and so I’m taking them to the shelter for her. (Well, maybe not taking BOTH of them to the shelter…one of them might be coming home with me. But the other is a pregnant mama-cat–and as much as I wish I could, I lost my job last week and I simply can’t keep her.)
Sometimes it’s very hard to love people, if you also love animals.
Gladys–
I’m so sorry to hear about the kitten. That is one more pet waiting for you beyond the Rainbow Bridge; you were her mother, even if it was for one night.
And, for the life of me, I don’t know how people ‘don’t want their pets anymore’. As someone who has kept every pet until they passed away (I’m sure most of you at this site are the same), it is such a foreign concept to tire of your pets in the same way one might tire of kitchen curtains!
Dee, I agree it is hard to understand how someone can give up a part of their family but there are sometimes circumstances. One of the sweetest siamese cats my family had came to us because of a messy divorce situation where the house had to be sold and her owner couldn’t afford pet deposits and extra rent on the apartment. She did the right thing and contacted a no-kill shelter who refered her to my mom who was looking for a furry baby. At least she turned to a cat lover for help rather than abandoning them or taking them to a kill shelter. Gladys, bless you for your rescuing tendencies. Good luck with the job search. We’re rooting for you.

You’re right, ppearson. I guess I should have stated those exceptions. I’m referring to the hundreds of stories I’ve heard of people who get rid of a pet (especially pets their children have grown to love), because they don’t like cleaning out litter boxes, or the dog barks at night, etc….
My ex called me and said someone dropped off a full grown tortie. I drove to his home which was 30 minutes away, to see what was going on and it was the most beautiful colored cat I have seen. SHe came right to me. So I called my mother who lived nearby and she demanded that I show her this cat. I said it was now living outside and had dug a hole in the dirt under his shed. I could tell she was an indoor cat from how clean she was……except for her now dirty paws. I have no idea how long she had been living outside, but it was October and was starting to get cold out at night. When my mother and I drove there, I told her since this was an outside cat, I didn’t even know if it was still around or would come to me? But I went in the back of the house and there she was. She heard me calling and came out of her dirt hole to greet me. Then I scooped her up in my arms and walked around the house to show my mother. I thought she was going to take the cat to a shelter. But when she saw “Fluffy”, she fell in love with her on the spot and took her right to the vets to get checked and then to her new home. Fluffy made herself right at home and has a little sister named Mittens. This was one year ago. I saw her today and my mother said (again) that Fluffy is the most loving cat and she adores her. Fluffy will look up at you and brush your face when she wants attention, which she gets constatnly now. My point here is that what idiot would dump such a sweet loving cat? One with no claws yet! She is an older cat and I am grateful that fate allowed me to intervene and save her. I hope the Law of Karmic Return kicks in on whoever threw her away! What goes around………….
Gladys, so sorry to hear about your little kitten you found. That is so heartbreaking. Hope you can find a home for the Mama Siamese. I would take them in, if it was possible. I love all cats but hold a special spot for siamese cats.
My heart goes out to that poor kitten. It makes me so mad and sad at the same time that someone would just dump them on the street. I would like that person to experience what abandonment is like and in the worst way. Cats are people, have souls and warrant care just like a human does. God Bless you Gladys for taking the time, spending your hard earn money on that little baby cat. I am sure it is smiling down at you and knows that in the karmic sense you have earned your wings in heaven and they are waiting for you there.
Daily Inspirational Cat Quote For Wednesday, November 1, 2006.
“Most of us rather like our cats to have a streak of wickedness. I should not feel quite easy in the company of any cat that walked about the house with a saintly expression. –Beverly Nichols”
I don’t mean to step on anyone’s toes but we all come to this site because we enjoy seeing all the cute kitties and to share our kitties with everyone, not to get chastised. We all love our animals and would never deliberately do anything to hurt our babies and we know how to take good care of them. I really don’t think it is necessary to chastise someone every time we perceive them as doing anything wrong. I have noticed that alot lately on this site and quite frankly Iam tired of it. Please don’t chastise someone who simply wants to share a cute picture of their baby with everyone
I have to agree with cdyer-this picture is a perfect example-this is a really cute pic, but then people have to go and post negative things. IT’S JUST A PICTURE!! Enjoy it for the cuteness that it is and how happy this little kitten must make her owners! We all have little bundles of joy and each one of us could be criticized in some way or another-take some time and judge yourself before judging others.
I just found a great site for any of us who have lost a pet. It’s called Rainbows Bridge.
Rainbows Bridge is a virtual memorial home for your departed baby. If you add your departed pet’s name (and photo, if you’d like) to the list, they will be included in their Monday evening candle lighting ceremony. It’s worldwide each Monday at 10:00 PM EST. An on-line candle will be lit especially for your pet. It’s a very thoughtful and thorough site.
Warning: This opened up floodgates for me that I thought had been closed!

Have a good day all and a good All Saints Day.

For anyone who isn’t familiar with the comic Dog Eat Doug, here is a link. It’s such a sweet, gentle comic about a baby and his dog.

“she does what she whats all the time”
Yes. . .the essence of cat!
Good luck on finding a job.
I probably should not laugh at the story at the following link, but it’s pretty funny…

I have a Missy too-in fact she has a little one herself now…
This is the cutest picture!!! How adorable is she??!!
“I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul. –Jean Cocteau”
I totally agree. People should just enjoy things for what they are, not for what they should be.
How cute. My baby bubba would sit on my lap or be around my feet all the time. Either that or howling his head off in the car elsewhere.
Oh my goodness gracious!! For you SNL fans - it’s Tootnes, the cat that could drive a car!! How sweet!!
Missy is so cute. Just be safe little one.
Ahhh, already she is having her daddy wrapped around her little paws. So much to be loved here
And words of wisdom from my coffee mug - You don’t own me…my cat does.
I hope Missy doesn’t use cat nip before driving - Just Say No!
