Teekah?
This is my brand new kitten… Teekah? We are looking at names but this is the front runner so far. She is a Seal Point Burmese. She is the sweetest kitten I have ever met. She follows me around the house like a puppy. When petted she tips over and purrrrrrs. Wow, what fun!
She’s lovable! I hope she has a good life — she will, since you obviously love her.

Heeeeey. . .I’m from Michigan too! Been living in New England since 1977 though. Dank rainy day in Massachusetts today but not particularly cold. Funny weather this fall. No matter; I have my four fur babies for consolation.
I had three major revelations when I left Michigan. 1) Mountains! 2) Ocean! 3) The rest of the country has never heard of Vernors.

I was born and raised in Michigan! I lived in Southfield until I was 21. Actually, most markets in the Tampa area carry Vernor’s—the BEST ginger ale ever!

I’m a Texan living in Michigan and I love it, I’ll never go back! (But I still prefer Dr. Pepper to Vernors.)
I haved lived in MI my whole life and I hate Vernors. I grew up in the southwest corner and never had it till highschool, when I was in the hospital and the nurses tried to give me some iron supplements mixed into Vernors. Ptewi! I’m sure it was the iron that tasted nasty, but I will always remember it as not liking Vernors!

The name “MeezerMama” is intriguing since my ID is “Meezerzmummerz”. (Daughter’s nickname is “Meezer”.) We also are the staff of 8 rescued adult shed machines in cat suits. If 8 were not the limit per the county laws, we would probably go forth and get our own little fuzz ball baby. She’s a keeper!
What can I say, I love my Meezer babies. My first cat was an apple head or classic. He was awesome. Now I have a Tonkinese and a tabby point.

I don’t know if you saw the answer to your question about Chester yesterday. He is living in FL and was in the hospital for awhile again but is out now. He still needs lots of prayers so if you and anyone else out there please add him to your prayer list. I figure the more prayers the better God will get tired of us bugging him and grant them!!!

What a beautiful baby! I love points too. I had a stray that had red points-named him Rusty, ’cause he looked like he was left out in the rain. Your name is much more imaginative but don’t rush it. I take my time nameing my cats. I condition them to come to a specific sound, like kissy noises or psssspsssss. It took me about two months to name my Bug- it just suited him.
What a darling baby. And that falling over thing is really funny because I have a darling long-haired tabby that constantly falls over at my feet. One caveat, however, is that it’s very easy to step on them or fall over them when they do that. I constantly have to watch her because I’m afraid she’ll do it when I don’t expect it.

‘All the Quarters in the World’
A grandmother’s love gives a severely burned child the will to heal.

It was October 1962, and we just experienced in the Northwest what would later be called, “The Columbus Day Storm.” A severe ice storm with pounding winds damaged homes and trees alike. The area was a mess. The wind was finally silent but still freezing in the air. We had no power, which meant no heat, and our house was ice cold with its bare wood floors.
I huddled in my new cotton nightgown next to my brothers and sisters while we waited for Dad to light a fire in the fireplace. He added extra wood to help the house heat quickly. As he walked away from the hearth, we all ran to find our place standing directly in front of the crackling fire to get warm as quickly as possible.
I had just finished warming my front side, stretching out my hands to feel how hot the fire had become, then turned to warm by backside. Standing there in comfort, I relaxed for the first time on that cold morning. Shutting my eyes basking in contentment of the fire, I was abruptly brought back to reality. In only a second, one singular spark flying from the fireplace caught my nightgown. Flames instantly ignited the cotton and the smell of my flesh burning singed the air.
At the hospital my mom was told I had third degree burns and extensive deep tissue damage on the backside of my left leg. After months of treatment and daily bandage changes that were the most painful thing I had ever endured, the doctor grafted skin off my bottom to my left leg. Due to the severity and depth of the burn he predicted, “Melodie will likely have a stiff leg after her skin graft heals. At the very best, she’ll walk with a limp.” My mother cried.
Oh, the agony of healing. Any movement brought tremendous pain and walking was out of the question. My pain threshold could not bear it. I lay on the couch day after day trying not to disturb my throbbing leg. Any movement was torture, so I became an expert at laying still.
My grandma lived in town and drove daily to our house in the country to visit me, then back every night, never missing a day. My Grandmother was poor- based on government tallies of incomes, actually extremely poor, I later learned. Yet she afforded the gas to come to be with me everyday.
Grandma never accepted the thought of me walking with a limp or a stiff leg. She was diligent in her faith and encouraged me daily, coaxing me to move it. I loved her so much that I wanted to please her. I would move my leg with tears in my eyes, barely handling the pain. Day after day she came. Then came a day when the pain was too great to bear, even to please Grandma. I didn’t want to try to walk any more, period. It just hurt too much. I just stopped trying.
One day after my long siege of, “No, I am not going to try any more,” Grandma came with all kinds of quarters. I don’t mean a few. I don’t mean a handful. I mean a bunch of quarters that filled up her lap. A quarter in 1962 was a lot of money to a child. Penny candy existed back then. She wore a housedress, or what she called a “moo-moo,” and placed all those shiny quarters right there on her lap next to me. Lying on the couch I could see them. I had never seen that amount of money ever. It made me excited. She said, “If you stand up I will give you a quarter.” I wanted a quarter, so, disregarding the pain I stood up. Grandma smiled so big and placed a shiny new quarter in the palm of my hand. I quickly sat down, the pain throbbing in my leg. She looked right into my eyes and said, “There’s more where that came from. Do it again, honey, stand up.”
I did it again and she repeated the reward - another shiny quarter in my hand. This went on day after day for months with Grandma. She was faithful and so determined I would not have a stiff leg and would walk without a limp. One day I asked her, “What if you run out of quarters, Grandma?”
She said, “Don’t worry about Grandma running out of quarters honey. I got all the quarters in the world for you.”
TEEKAH IS A PURRFECT NAME FOR HER… IT MAKES HER ALL THE MORE SPECIAL AS IT IS SO UNIQUE. SHE IS A BEAUTIFUL KITTY REMINDS ME OF MY Burmese GIZMO (DUE THE EARS).
Such a sweet face and such beautiful blue eyes! i just want to kiss her little nose and paws and blow raspberries on her fluffy little belly. I am a sucker for pointed cats! Teekah is a great name. Very musical when you say it outloud and fun fun when you sat it fast over and over.

House Judiciary Chairman Blocks Bill Against Animal Fighting!!

This is outrageous. I hope the bill comes back up. Anything to stop animal cruelty that can be done, should be done.
I am just absolutely sick that this man had the power to help fight animal cruelty and chose to not take action. He has a website everyone should email him and let him know that he made the incorrect decision. James Sensenbrenner to me now represents the worst kind of politician and should be voted out of office.

Everyone on this community should let him know of their disappointment (politely) and pass his email address along to EVERYONE and every organization they know that cares about the wellbeing of animals. The good representative from Wisconsin that began the animal cruelty bill is Representative Mark Green. mark.green@mail.house.gov. Please email him praise and support so that he will have the courage to re-introduce the bill during the next congressional session when Sensenbrenner is no long in a position of power.

You know, James Sensenbrenner probably believes that “they are just animals”, but he is making an egregious error in not taking into account that almost all of these animal fighting rings are also drug rings, and the associated crimes that go along with that. It seems he has little regard for people, as well.

Animal fighters involved in the extremely brutal underground industry of dogfighting and cockfighting often make thousands of dollars in a single night.
And thousands of animals in the United States today suffer and die for their profit.
But when they illegally ship animals for fighting across state lines, a misdemeanor — essentially a slap on the wrist — is the only penalty they will possibly face.
The law must change, and it must change soon, and the Animal Fighting Prohibition Enforcement Act (H.R. 817) would make trafficking in fighting animals a felony, with much stiffer penalties. The bill would also make it a crime to move cockfighting implements in interstate or foreign commerce.
And it’s now down to the wire for this much needed legislation, which passed the Senate unanimously but has been inexplicably bottled up in the House Judiciary Committee by Chairman James Sensenbrenner (R-WI).
If you care about stopping the rampant animal abuse still occurring in this country, please contact House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH), and urge him to bring this critical legislation, H.R. 817, to the House floor for an immediate vote.
This bill is supported by the American Veterinary Medical Association, the National Sheriffs’ Association, numerous humane societies, and more than 400 state and local law enforcement agencies across America.
It’s also co-sponsored by three quarters of the entire House, making the delay unconscionable.
It truly is time for the U.S. House of Representatives to help end rampant animal abuse in America - forever.

I have written letters, contributed to PETA and also

Leaving it up to local officials won’t make this a severe enough offence! It is already illegal to transport certain breeds across state lines, breeds such as pit bulls, but that offence is only a finable charge. Living in Texas where this horrible pracitice is advertised on people’s vehicles makes me want to run them off the roads, but that would make me the bad person! I find this whole thing frustrating and unbelievable. Wish there was more I could do.

Using this tool, I managed to find the actual text of the bill. The only problem I have with the bill itself is that it isn’t strong enough. Its summary begins thus:
(1) IN GENERAL- Except as provided in paragraph (2), it shall be unlawful for any person to knowingly sponsor or exhibit an animal in an animal fighting venture, if any animal in the venture was moved in interstate or foreign commerce.
That’s my beef with it — animal fighting needs to be against the law, period, end of sentence. Unfortunately, because this is at the federal level, they do not constitutionally have the right to outlaw it altogether (10th Amendment — that right belongs to the states). Interstate and foreign commerce is as far as they can constitutionally go and stay within the appropriate jurisdiction of the federal government.
If you want to see this atrocity stop, then petition your state-level representative to introduce this at the state level. The state is where this sort of law is and should be handled — bug them too! This bill is not enough to protect innocent creatures from being abused for sport and profit!

He’s just warning the swimmers to keep away from his ladies. At mating time it is best to stay away from them. Usually they are playfull and curious. One time my husband had a seal get on his surfboard with him.
