For those who are weather-watchers…we had about 8 inches of snow in Bettendorf, Iowa where I live…very cold and blowing snow…they got it much worse east of the Mississippi River in Illinois…around 12 inches. I was hoping to be snowed in, but alas, 8 inches of snow doesn’t shut much down around here, just the schools, lucky kids!

Evangeline–This is the second pic I’ve seen of Alfie and Wally—They are such beatiful cats. (I’m sure you’re beaming right now!) Isn’t it funny how we are so complemented when someone loves our animals? Last night, I ordered a pizza (and I’m blaming it on all the food talk!), and the delivery guy stuck around a bit longer to pet and coo at my Atticus, who is the most sociable cat I’ve ever had. The other 2 ran under the bed, as usual….

Yes Dee,I do feel complicated, but what animals? They are our kids ahem kits..Your Atticus sounds like my Sydney. The boys pull their usual disappearing act but Sydney stays and greets. Most people who deliver to me don’t quite believe I have 3 since they only get to see Sydney…

Evangeline — I sometimes find it complicated when I’m complimented!

I think to get a link to look pink and clickable, you need to have space around it.

By the way, this fierce catkin is such a sweetie! He looks so much like my little Tommy who headed for the Rainbow Bridge, um, let me count, 36 years ago. Still a sweetie kitty in my heart, though.

I wouldn’t mind being attacked by this Guinness fuzz! Wouldn’t mind one bit!

On Monday of this week it was almost 70 degrees, now we have high temps of 20, wind chill puts us at about 5 degrees above zero and 6 or more inches of snow on the ground…weird weather…they’re blaming it on El Nino….

Hi CatRancher! How are you today? That movie you all were talking about is National Lampoon’s “Christmas Vacation”, that had Randy Quaid driving the motorhome. I read you had some bad weather. We had lots of rain. I live on a hill and we had pools of water just standing in our yard. Then it started snowing about 6:30pm with a little sleet mixed in. My husband got home just in time. It didn’t snow as much as they first thought. I didn’t mind! The sun is shining and it is 38 and the snow has melted. Susan in GA., I know what you mean about running the A/C. I ran mine until about Oct. My house stays pretty warm, as long as the sun shines. I haven’t had to turn on the heat yet, just my portable heater to keep the chill out. I liked your comment yesterday about wanting to feel cold. You would just take a shower and stand in front of the freezer! That feels good in the summer.

We have hot, humid summers here, too. 95 with 100% (and I don’t mean it’s raining) humidity is not unusual. I used to say that if you live here you are prepared for extreme weather anywhere! The only respite is that the seasons do change….sometimes overnight ;-). I would rather have the cold than the hot and humid anyday. I am NOT GOOD with humidity. My husband barely sweats, but I walk around looking like someone dumped a bucket of water over my head.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation…that’s it…thanks… Now just waiting for 4:30 and going home…streets are pretty much clear. Driving in this morning was a slippery, slow process…what takes me 10 minutes to drive, ended up 30 minutes to drive. I go SLOOOWWW!

ASPCA SUCCESS STORY OF THE WEEK: A BULL MARKET

As a volunteer for a local animal shelter in San Luis Obispo, CA, Brock Lacey learned to expect the unexpected. So when a litter of pit bull pups was left in the shelter’s drop-off cages one evening, Brock didn’t think twice when offering to foster all six of the canines.

Recalls Brock: “When the pups had been spayed and neutered at 12 weeks of age, I fully intended to find loving homes for all of them.”

But one little guy had decided he was perfectly happy right where he was.

“I’d gotten so attached to this goofy, loving clown I’d named Boof,” says Brock, “and I just couldn’t let him go.”

These days, Boof is thoroughly enjoying the good life with Brock. Reports the proud pet parent, “His favorite activities are running on the beach, chasing squirrels and going to martial arts class with me.”

*********************************************************ATTENTION, PET OWNERS! DECK THE HALLS—BUT DO IT SAFELY, PLEASE

For many of us, ’tis the season to decorate our homes with live Christmas trees and holiday greenery. But did you know that some of these yuletide traditions can be hazardous to your pet’s health?

* Lovely lilies are commonly used in holiday floral arrangements, but many varieties—including Tiger, Asian, Japanese Show, Stargazer and the Casa Blanca—can cause kidney failure in cats if ingested.

* Bag the boughs of holly and live mistletoe. Sure, they add a nice touch to your holiday décor, but holly can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and lethargy if eaten by your pet. And should he sample mistletoe, he could suffer gastrointestinal upset and cardiovascular problems. Opt for just-as-jolly artificial plants made from silk or plastic.

* Christmas tree water may contain fertilizers that can cause stomach upset. Stagnant tree water is a breeding ground for bacteria—and your pet could end up with nausea or diarrhea should he imbibe.

* Although the potential toxicity of poinsettias is generally overstated, these showy holiday plants can irritate your pet’s mouth, and may cause nausea and/or mild vomiting.

If you suspect that your animal companion has eaten a potentially toxic substance, call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center’s emergency hotline at (888) 426-4435 for round-the-clock telephone assistance. For more poison prevention tips, please visit ASPCA online.

**Family Finds Dog That Jumped From Big Rig**

POSTED: 8:57 am PST December 1, 2006

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A trucker and his canine companion will be reunited this weekend, thanks to a caring family and a Web site.

Marvin Cecil’s dog, B.A., ran away in North Carolina on Halloween.

The Ohio man said B.A. jumped out of his truck in Winston-Salem while he was examining damage after he hit a lamppost. For the next two days, Cecil said, he put 150 miles on his truck searching for the German shepherd mix.

With no luck, Cecil posted information about his dog on the Forsyth County Animal Control’s Web site and left town.

Meanwhile, Janet English and her son took in B.A. and fed him. She and a friend contacted Lassie Come Home N.C., a lost pet Web site. The Web site’s administrator found Cecil’s posting on the other site.

Cecil said he’s ecstatic. He said B.A.’s dog bowl, treats and favorite Harley-Davidson blanket are waiting for him in the truck.

That story had me crying at my desk. How sad for her. The hurt never really leaves when you lose a pet, especially like she did.

What an adorable little floof! I love it when kittens try to be intimidating…it just multiplies the Cute Factor…

Dee’s stories are just as wonderful as the feature kitten of the day.

Just want to say Thank you for making my time at work so much more enjoyable for who knows how long, both Dee and Kittenmaster.

A pint of brown frothy Guinness! Oh, he is the darlingest little baby! I love the long hairs on his ears, and how his little head is all framed by a fluff of mane. He’s a little domestic lion! Love him always!

Named after the yummy floof on top of a well drawn pint?
Maybe?
He is gorgeous.

Thanks for the link — Loved the certificate! What a hoot! I was born on the day that Rosa Parks refused to sit on the back of the bus and “Rebel Without a Cause” was released! Cool! I especially liked that under Medical Advances, it states, “Drugs may now be used to treat mental illness.” Just in time! LOL
