Daisy

DaisyDaisy was “picked” from a litter of kittens that were all born in the woods and had never been touched by human hands till she was seven weeks old. The morning after I caught her, she was purring in my arms and since then loves to be held and cuddled and of course loves the kisses… to and from me. My aunt (whose woods she came from) calls me the “cat whisperer”.

What a sweetie! We just adopted 2 kittens; a brother (Ike) and sister (Julia) that are about 6 months old. We had to put our 15 year old diabetic tabby named Doodles to sleep a little over a week ago. So of course, the kittens are definitely new to us. The female has been under the bed and the male under the recliner since we brought them home Friday evening. Any suggestions on how to get them out? Or does it just take some time. Thanks!

It does take time but maybe get something like a string or toys that will ‘draw’ them out or some treats to bring them out. Congrats on your new bundles of fuzz! My dad (a history buff)had a cat named Ike, after Eisenhower. Is this the case with yours?

They’ll be out soon.. It just takes time for them to get used to the new noises and scents around them… Toys will help along with soothing words. :)

I enticed mine out by putting food not too far away from their hidey-hole, sitting very still and speaking very softly about nothing in particular. When they came to eat I ignored them but kept talking. The next food saucer was further into the room, and so on, so that they associated food with an unthreatening voice and a safe eating place. Good luck.

I am sorry about Doodles and it’s sad to think how the new ones are hiding from their greiving new parents–but alas–they will emerge after a few days. Fear not!

When my Arnie died a couple of months ago I stood in the vet’s office crying like a baby (I am 58 years old) The vet assistant said, “Here’s a kleenex Fran.” And she handed me a kitten, upon whom I shed my tears all over her furr. Her name is Kateri, for the Native American Saint, because she brought joy to this sad old Indian woman. (Me) and my other 2 older cats.

She loves water and I have to discourage her from jumping in the tub with me every day. She is my kleenex Kateri fuzz and I adore her.

Lovely story Fran. When I need a good cry, I pick up my “Kleenex” also known as Alfie Underfoot (Sounds kinda First Nation, don’t you think? But he is so named cause he is always underfoot.) He is my sweet orangie, my little love bug!
BTW, nothing wrong with Kateri joining you in the tub! As long as you dry her off well:)
Oh and one more thing, 58 is hardly old!

Yes time is the only thing. We adopted twin sisters at 1 year old. It took several weeks before they would not run when we walked into the room they were in. We have had them for 8 months now and they are so friendly! Give the little ones some time and they will come around.

I suggest putting them into a small room where you can corner them to catch them (a bathroom usually works) put food and water and litter box in the room and leave them overnight. THen, catch one of them at a time ( using a towel to guard yourself from scratches and bites) pick them up with just their head out from the towel. NO other distractions, no kids, have the door shut. Just pick up and hold up in your arms or better yet, just sit down in the bathroom and hold the kitten for few minutes ..they will stop hissing…just whisper softly…its ok…your nice soothing voice…when possible, touch, rub on head and side of head…ears…all kitties like that, they just dont know what they have been missing. after doing this each time, give special milk (goats milk or something special for kittens) and then quitly leave them alone…do this few times during waht time you have and each time should get better. the whole house is too much if they are new to you and have never been inside. thats my way…hope it helps.

It takes time.I put new arrivals ina small room so it is quiet at first.Just have their food, water, litter box available for them and go about your business stooping every so often to offer a kind word.Don’t try to touch them for a while.Feed them their favorite food in your presence so they’ll associate it w/ you and they’ll come out to meet you after a while. And they’ll love you for life.

Their natural curiousity will bring them out eventually. Let them get used to your routine and don’t force it. You might offer some food!

Just wanted y’all to know. I broke down and let another little feline into my house and heart. Someone abandoned this little dilute tortie in the woods and she was very hungry and relieved when rescued by a friend of a friend. She’s about 10 weeks and a regular purr box.
Resident cat Ollie (all 16 pounds of him) has stopped hyperventilating and swatting her around and they have even started playing together. That’s good, because she screamed like a banshee when I shut her into the bathroom :)

Daisy looks identical to our patch tabbly, Honey Bear, that for a minute I thought it was her (she is just a doll same as yours). Hope she is lots of fun like our Honey. Our Honey was also an outside born kitten. Her litter was born from a hugh tom and queen, so we thought she would be big. But, she is a petite little girl who rules our house with an iron paw. Bless you for taking her in. Hope the others are ok, too.

what a sweetie! she looks just like my torbie calico Ariel did when she was little. she was found in a beer box with her sister outside my old work. i couldn’t resist her little pink nose, and her sis went home with another lady. have fun with your spunky little girl, she will bring you lots of love and joy.

How I became a cat lover
It happened in the spring of 1996 when my wife and I along with our youngest two decided to walk along the creek at the back of our property to seee how high the flood waters were from the spring thaw.
We had walked about 200 yards when we heard the distressed cry of a cat, of course this caused us to investigate.
She was clinging to a sapling that was bowed over the swift moving waters.
Having a 5 and 6 year old in tow I had no choice than to rescue the cat (I would have done it anyhow).
So off into the waist deep ice water, hoping that the owner had her declawed.
To my surprise she was very calm and stayed calm all the way back to the house, this was odd as I was at a full run back due to being soaked, (I wanted dry clothes and a warm house).
When my wife and children made it back they were happy to see the cat, my wife noted at this point that I had rescued a pregnant cat who was promptly named Mama Missy.
Now Mama Missy had made herself at home and was well loved by the children, I still didn’t really care it ’s just a cat, to me just another animal to be tended.
Shortly after her arrival she bestowed upon us 4 babies
and about two weeks into nursing she slipped out and never came back.
Of course this leads to bottle feeding the kittens.
she had two gray tux males and to black tux females, they became Known as count tuffy von fluffula, mister snuggles, peeper and pork chop aka piggles.
Somewhere in the past ten years I became a cat lover.
This is evident as last night I buried Mister Snuggles and I havent quit crying yet, I love him and will miss him.

Im so sorry about Mister Snuggles…..about a year ago i lost the very first cat i ever had. she was half siamese anslong haired, I named her Sassy, which was a very accurate description of her!!! she use to be gone for weeks mouse hunting, and just about the time id get worried id walk out the door to find a row of mice and moles, noses and tails facing the same dirction, announcing her return. unfortunatly, one day she went off to hunt and never returned…..but several months ago my mother got me a persian, who was found pregnant and so matyted she couldnt clean herself. her name is Kitty Mow Mow, and while it took her frever to like me, now we are connected at the hips. however, im away at school, and she is left by herself. i miss her so much, because she is so sweet and im not use to living without a few cats around. once again, im sorry for your loss, and i hope that the others are doing well.

This must be the week to take in strays….our Onyx’ nose is all out of joint because he is no longer king of the castle. We adopted a sweet little girl, she can’t be anymore than 6 or 8 mos old, very petite, a muted calico, and now that she’s adjusting she is giving the boy a run for his money. btw….we have changed Onyx’s name… he is now officially W.H. Kattus, Esq. (W. H. stands for whiney hiney)…he is the biggest whiner we ever saw, and it’s gotten worse now that the girl is in the family…..we told him…..GET USED TO IT! he was not at all happy, but he throughly enjoys chasing her around the apt…..guess she can be only so bad..right?
