This is Smudge. She’s a stray found under a truck at a truck stop. We got her at the Humane Society. She loves her family but hates strangers - but not enough to leave, just enough to stick around and hiss at them!

Smudge is adorable and she reminds me of a cat I once had who also couldn’t abide strangers. Unfortunately, though, rather than run away and hide, as most cats probably would have, she preferred to stick around and try to terrorize everybody. The funny thing was that she was mostly fluff and didn’t even have her front claws (not my doing, I got her that way), but it was amazing how intimidating she could be when she wanted to.
Oh! Smudge is such a sweet little smokey gray spot of fluff! She is sportin’ quite the FB’s too. Love her white muzzle and white paws. She looks like she was dippin’ in the cream dish. Bless you for adopting this cute and firey little bundle of cattitude.
BTW Love your planter bed and the little bunny statue. Bet the roses are beautiful when they are in bloom.
Smudge! I had a friend with a big grey boy named BC (for Battle Cat) because he always hissed at anyone new although fighting wasn’t really his thing–just hissing. He actually preferred having a good belly rub. What is it with these gray kitties hissing? Mom used to say they sounded like a wet fire cracker.
Being rescued is a wonderful special thing. I was once rescued myself, so I have a great love and gratitude for those who rescue. Smudge will probably thank you forever in a thousand wonderful ways over the years. Something serious in his eyes says, “Thanks be to God for a second chance at living well.”
I feel like I know him in a secret way, like a refugee soulmate. He is a sweetie. Big kiss on the nose.
I will try to post on weekends because there are less posts then and I have more time on weekends. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
I can relate to being rescued too. Or at least being helped when I was down and out. I deeply appreciate those with a big heart and unselfishly give, help and love those who are less fortunate. Homeless people and pets have my heart.
When I read Smudge’s story I felt the same way you did. There was an understanding somehow. Some kind of profound connection. Thanks for sharing Fran.
I want to pick her up and snoodle that little furry belly. I had a cat named Smudge once. He had a black spot on his nose. He loved to catch mice in the corn shocks out by our house. He would run out, sit for a few minutes, grab one, run to the house to show it to us, eat it, then run back to the field. He kept it up until he wore himself out and had to have a nap.
How observant you are! lol Yes, my mom was on here with me, but since I do all of the posting, we decided to just put my name. May change it back, though.
Is there a Cataholics Anonymous? Because every day I visit here and see the most shmooshable and adorabobble babies, I feel compelled to visit a shelter to gather up one, two, or twenty fur babies. (Although none could possibly be as precious as this little baby).
Smudge is merely ultimate cute now. I am sure that she will grow up to be Miss Kitty Universe and that we will all swoon in her presence.
(looks around to see if there is room for any more people of the claws persuasion in his house)……..
Given her past experience with strangers, a bit of hissing is understandable, and a small price for how much brighter she undoubtedly makes your life. May you both have many years of joy and mutual loving together.
Mine hisses with new people but i have them give her a cat treat. Now when the same people come back to visit she sniffs them and “asks” for more treats
She sounds like my Oona (also a hisser, heh). She’s a bit afraid of strangers, but she refuses to cede any of her territory—so she stands her ground and sticks around, even walks up to say hello (smell the finger)—then hisses. It’s pretty comical! People mostly take it pretty well… At least when I explain that the hissing is fear, not aggression (exactly).
Smudge is adorable. I love her gray color, and those little white toes!
Nice picture. Smudge is adorable! She looks so fluffy and soft. I agree, there are not many postings on the weekend. I will be here. I may be late in checking in but I always check out TDK. I’m glad Smudge found a home. MERRY CHRISTMAS!
What a pretty little kitty. I love how her eyes are almost the same color as her fur, and she has little areas of white!!! My cat Reesy also sticks around to hiss at strangers, then she sniffs them for about 10 minutes and finally sits at a distance and watches them. Goofy cats!
Yeah, Smudge is so cute. She might enjoy hating the strangers. Some cats think hate is a cool hobby. THat is what my cat does. I know it’s only a hobby, because she loves to cuddle so much.
She’s so cute!I had a grey tom cat named Pepper who loved to snuggle w/ me but he was quite intimidating to others. He had his favorite chair and would just glare at it’s occupant until they hastily vacated it.After he was rather belatedly neutered(I didn’t know any better at the time) he just sat on the arm of the sofa and glared at my father as if he knew HE was resposible for it.My dad held the paper up to block his stare and kept asking”Is he still there?”I was a small child at the time and this big tom cat chased a husky out of the yard that had snuck up behind me(the dog had a history of biting). All I heard was yipe, yipe from the dog as my pepper chased him out of the yard.I miss my big old Pepper,he was SOME amazing cat.
Am I the only person on here who regularly stares down her cat? I have staredowns with my cat, and I have yet to lose. (I got practice with staredowns in my college days.)
What a beautiful color of Grey on this sweet cutie. Would really love to see her when she is grown. So thankful you gave her a forever home. God Bless and have fun with her.
My gray and white DMS, Randle, says Smudge is one fine fuzzbutt! I swear he said it, he just couldn’t type it in so I did the typing for him. Merry Christmas weekend kitties!
What is that on the left side of the baby’s lip (left side as you look at the photo)? It looks like someone either has pierced their lip - cant’ anyone see the silver looking hoop? Or, someone has photoshopped a large bubble. What’s happening?
Oh, I see. I guess I’m the only one who can’t see in 3-D! Glad that’s what it was - I purposely checked back today to see if there was a response - thanks for easing my mind - I thought some punk kid had pierced the baby’s lip!
Just wandered into this blog, and I like it! (Really, HOW can you go wrong with a thing like “The Daily Kitten”?
I have an all-white, beauty, with a blue and a green eye. AND she has thumbs. If my camera were better I’d have pictures of her up….
I think I’m addicted to them: having been acquired by three kitties now, I’ve had to satisfy myself with collecting various cat knick-knacks.
Have you been to “Cattown(dot)com yet? I can’t believe it didn’t make the cut for the Links page! ;o)
Be Blessed, and keep on truckin’, soberchick.

Such a cute and fiesty little one! So glad you gave her a good home. May the Lord bless you and Smudge always.
Weren’t you Sheri & Edna before? Maybe I’m mistaken and it was another poster who was Sheri & Edna.
How observant you are! lol Yes, my mom was on here with me, but since I do all of the posting, we decided to just put my name. May change it back, though.
Love her name. We have a grey fluffball too. So sweet

Very, um, voluptuous FBs on this sweetie. What a cutie pie! Gorgeous eyes, too.:)
Smudge is charming, such an elegant shade of grey! And I think, with her background, hissing a bit at strangers is a good thing.
Having given the bunbun a piece of her mind, Smudge is ready to take on the rest of the garden!
“Truck Off!” Fuzz!!!!!
Given her past experience with strangers, a bit of hissing is understandable, and a small price for how much brighter she undoubtedly makes your life. May you both have many years of joy and mutual loving together.

Pound for pound, cats have the most intimidating stare of any critter alive!

how cute

I’m a guy, but I have to admit it, that is one cute cat! Besides, what a great feline to have around when you’re stuck with “unwanted” guests!
Y’all take care, and have a Merry Christmas everybody!
Your kitty is so cute!I

It’s the ring connecting the brass tag to her collar. This was the original Humane Society tag…

Cathie
Sounds like you have a good watch cat on your hands.
I love ferious Smudgies-fuzz0butts! (and with very sexy FBs, too, I might add!)
Her gray-blue fur is absolutely gorgeous. It’s a good thing she knows how to protect herself too! Hope you enjoy many years of kitty love with her.
Smudge is gorgeous. I’ve always wanted a grey kitty. Maybe one day but right now Princess will have no one else in her kingdom.
