His eyes are stunning, too! Such a pale green. I have never had a grey kitty either and have always wanted one. My sister had a big grey boy named (appropriately) Smokey. My daughter has a grey boy now named Conan. Both were/are very lovey in nature!

What a dolly baby :)
Funny story: I usually turn the bathtub water on a dribble for my black cat Sasha, and this morning i forgot to turn it off, the Bengal babies (all 5) had somehow plugged the tub and were splashing around in 2 inch of water, just having a ball………..kinda like a kid in a mud puddle LOL

My goofball, Snickers, gets in the shower every time I turn on the water. He used to have a “shower dance”–where he’d crab-walk along the side, barely touching the water–but now he just STANDS there, letting the water drench him, and licking drops off his coat. Then he hops out (usually soaking the bathmat in the process) and just stands there dripping, happy as can be.

Toby is beautiful! He is a lucky little guy. There are so many less fortunate kitties out there.
I cam across a sweet one year old named Bo he has been fixed but if he doesn’t find a home soon he is going back to the mean streets. If anybody is interested please check it out.
He is a year old,a love bug. Black and white and he is in TN.
I hope you don’t mind kittenmaster but the thought of this poor cat going back to streets just break my heart.

A place in Memphis to contact is the House of Mews. They may be able to help Bo in TN. What a beautiful Smokey Fuzzy Butt……I have a gray and white tabby named Randle and his has a fabulous but quirky personality.

I posted this yesterday afternoon after many TDKers had signed off. I am interested in people’’s thoughts:
Hi my fellow TDKers. A quick question re: furby behavior, I’d love your input or thoughts. I have two tabbies: 5 y.o. Buddy whom I’ve had since he was 4 weeks., and 1 y.o Vinny, whom I’ve had since he was 8 weeks. Other than a bit of hissing and spitting the first weekend I brought Vinny home, they get along. Wrestling and playing dominance games, but never hurting each other and no hissing. They do get along, I guess passably sharing ownership of me and our space. Lately, I have witnessed Vinny (the 1 y.o.) licking and grooming Buddy (the 5 y.o.) I don’t recall ever seeing the reverse. In this instance, who is the alpha kitty? The groomer, or the groomee

Comment by Huddy's Mama
2007-01-19 16:26:59

I have no idea. I know my cats groom each other, it’s never just one who does it, all 3 of them do. Sorry I couldn’t help. I don’t really think I have an alpha kitty. Either that or all three think they’re the alpa kitty.

It is not always an alpha cat issue. It goes to their relationship. My gracie is definitely my alpha cat but she and Emma both regularly goom the boy to death. Thierry is the youngest of the kits and both females are maternal toward him. The girls never groom each other. He will sometimes reciprocate, but not often and not as long as they groom him. Vinny may have assumed a caretaker role toward buddy that is separate from dominance issues.

In my 8-cat-household…the “alpha” status can change frequently… the grooming indicates affection, but often leads to the “lick, lick, bite” syndrome (as we call it) when they get carried away. My Phaedra used to chew the whiskers off her kittens when they were started to wander outside the nest…she still tries to do it to her adult babies. Someone told me it was to keep them from wandering too far by eliminating their radar..don’t know if this is true. I had many people ask what happened to the kitten’s whiskers? Too close to a candle…nope just mama cat clipping their roaming wings!

2007-01-19 21:23:50

CatRancher, That is interesting about the whiskers. I have my son’s two college kittens, Lucy the Boy and Charlie. They were adopted from a vet’s office when they were about 8 wks. old and they didn’t have any whiskers. We thought that someone had cut them off. I now wonder if the mama cat did it.

I had to observe it myself before I could believe it! In my very last litter, I gave two boys to my sister. One of the boys chewed his brother’s whiskers off when they were very little. I had two distinct pedigree lines when I was breeding and only those from the “Phaedra” lineage did the chewing, not all of them had this habit, but those that did were both male and female…go figure!!! Crazy cats!

The alpha cat in my household is Juliette, a 6.5 pound spayed (of course) female. Until this past spring I had six cats. The other 5 ranged in size from 9 to 16 pounds (in all there were 3 females and 3 males). Juliette ruled them with an iron paw. The only time
one cat grooms another is when Juliette allows one of the others to groom her and when she has had enough she slaps the groomer. I would say the one being groomed is the alpha. I also agree with the others who said watch for other behavior. Toby is just too precious. Of my six (I still feel as though I have six even though I lost one to heart disease and one to dementia a few months ago) 5 of them were some type of grey or silver or blue.

What a beauty! I found a grey kitten at one of my friends birthday parties. I have been told! that I am not allowed to bring any kitties home so I handed the handsome fellow to a male co-worker, who then took him home and they have been great friends ever since. Aptly named Shadow because, the now tom kitty, follows him around the house.

My youngest kittie is also great friends with our yellow lab JOE, she will come up and rub against him, he will usually run away becuase the older kitty taught him manners with her claws when he was young. Nothing like a little respect! R-E-S-P-E-C-T tell me what it means to me……;-)

Question:
I am moving from the country into the city. Now my two boys have lots of room with no other cats but when I move it will be to a considerably smaller place and it has a lot of strays around. What precausions should I take? My boys are neutered and fully vaccinated but those strays aren’t and I’m worried. I don’t know if I can make them inside kitties after being inside outside kitties for two years, and like I said the new place is MUCH smaller.

Comment by CatRancher from Iowa
2007-01-19 19:50:41

You can indeed make them into inside kitties. Believe it or not they will be happy inside and much, much safer. Some DOs:
1. Give them a window perch or two where they can watch the activities.
2. Get a squirt bottle to warn them when they are too close to the door.
3. Realize that they will be very upset at the move at first, getting used to the new digs/smells (invest in some Feliway spray).
4. If they do get out find them immediately as they will be “lost” in their new neighborhood and trespassers to other animals.
5. Invest in an enclosed kitty pen for outdoors or train them with a harness.
6. Be patient and persistent, after a while they’ll adjust.

2007-01-19 20:02:31

Good Afternoon CatRancher,
Can you tell me what Feliway spray is? Thanks

(Comments wont nest below this level)
Comment by CatRancher from Iowa
2007-01-19 20:50:14

Feliway is a cat pheromone spray that makes them feel relaxed and reduces stress. I always use it when I buy a new piece of furniture so that they don’t try to mark it by clawing or peeing. I’ll also spray it on a towel or blanket in their carrier when I take them to the vet… You can buy it online at at most major pet stores!

One of my kitties, Emma, was rescued off the streets. She has NO problem with being a full time indoor cat. Your boys will have a longer and safer life if they are always indoors. Even with vaccinations, if they are outside they are subject to bites and attacks from other animals and they are at risk from getting hit by a car or harmed by mean people. In addition to CatRancher’s excellent suggestions, maybe plant a little grass or catmint in a pot for them to nibble. If the new place has screens in the window, make sure they are well secured to prevent accidental escapes. If you can afford it and have a little bit of room a carpeted cat tree can give them exercise and perching spots. Good luck with the move. I hope it is for good reasons and moving forward in life and not the reverse. Keep us posted with their adventures in moving.

Thank you for all your advise, I will take it to heart I promise. The move is for good reasons don’t worry, and I already had a plan for play. There are half walls all around the house that I have carpet along the tops or and I have stratigically placed cat trees for easy access to those places which will give them a sort of high level highway from the living room to the kitchen cabinets. Along the way will be hanging toys and hanging planters with pillows in them for lounging, but now I can put some catmint in one for nibbling too!

What a beautiful kitten and what a wonderful name! My orange katten (in between kitten and cat stage) is named Toby as well. Well, I am off to pick up my other cat Maggie from the vet. I had her spayed today and she is probably mad at me, but it is for her on good. I hope everyone will have a good weekend!

Toby is so cute. Like other TDKs have said, I have always wanted a grey cat. Maybe one day!

Hey All ….I know most of you are probably gone for the day, but my hubby wanted me to ask a question…..he wants to know what everyone calls the thing that kittens do when they’re trying to act ferocious and do that little sideways hopping thing…..
Toby is such a beautiful little boy…..reminds me of my mom’s cat that she used to have named Caesar….the gifting cat….if he could catch it it was hers ……no matter what it was…..
