A Story to cheer up the little guy. Get well soon, fuzzbutt!

Where Dogs & Cats Come From?

Adam and Eve said, “Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us
every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is
difficult for us to remember how much you love us.”

And God said, “No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be
with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will
love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish
or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and
will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.”

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.
And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his
tail.

And Adam said, “Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom
and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.”

And God said, “No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a
reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own
name, and you will call him
DOG.”

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.
And they were comforted.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said,
“Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preen
like peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed
taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.”

And God said, “No problem! I will create for them a companion who will be
with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them
of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of
adoration.”

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.
And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat’s eyes,
they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility.
And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn’t give a darn one way or the other.

I hate to see little kitties who are hurt. Poor little guy. I’m sure he’s back to his normal playful self now and has crossed “ear plugs” off his list of things to eat. Q-Tips have always been a favorite toy of my kitties and from what I have read on the TDK, a LOT of kitties are attracted to “used” Q-Tips. They must like our ear smells! I can’t tell you how many times the bathroom waste basket has been tipped over in search of them or the dozens I have found chased under rugs, furniture and appliances. Little ear monsters, they are!

my cats have a thing for sculpty clay and kneeded erasers. As soon as I set one down a little black paw will reach up and snag the eraser and I’ll find it hours later with teeth and claw marks all over it.

They also have a thing for plastic bags of all kinds - those I keep away from them since I really don’t want a vet visit in my future

When I was in the process of moving a couple of years ago, two of my cats went to live with my Mom and Niece and the boy went to live with a friend. (Realtors hate showing houses with resident cats. Too many excapes) During the same week, Gracie stole a bag of cotton balls at my moms house and scattered them like snow all over the basement and the next day did the same thing with new q-tips. While at my friends house, Thierry got into the box of tampons with the crunch plastic wrapper and was proudly bring them out one by one to leave all over the house! Crazy cats! Emma of course was completely innocent since she is so lazy she can’t be bothered with such antics. When I finally was able to bring my cats to my new home, I had to give out wal-mart gift cards to make up for the stolen supplies.

Too funny! They are such little thieves! I bought a furry toy for my sister’s cats at a cat show this past weekend (I bought one for my monsters, too). I put it in the side pocket of my purse, zipped up! This morning I saw it in the hallway. They had watched me put it in there, unzipped it while I slept, and took out the toy, two dangley earrings, a receipt and an appointment card….geez! At least they left the other stuff on the table!

My female Maine Coon Phaedra is THE most intelliegent cat I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I swear I can see her “thinking.” I am sure it was her who figured out the zipper (it has a dangling pull tab) and daintily extracted the contents of my purse. She is relentless when it comes to getting her prey, be it housefly or a toy zipped in a purse… My other cats??? They observe….

Sorry, the tampon thing reminded me of my now deceased cat Aldor. He started life as my little sister’s cat, when she was a freshman in high school, and his favorite thing to bring out when she had friends over was either tampons or her underwear out of her laundry basket. LOL! He also couldn’t stay out of the bathtub when she was in it, as much as he hated bathing. ;-)

Cats are such amazing creatures. So curious and mischievious too. My cat Sylvester will bang on a wooden sliding door till it wiggles open. He tried this with my shower door but it is too heavy. He loves anything that makes a “crinkle” sound and will retrieve it out of the garbage if the lid on the garbage can isn’t on tight. He also likes to eat the fuzz balls that fall off of my new sweatpants or will eat rubber bands. I have to make sure I get to them before he does as I do not want him to end up like poor Noori.

Love my cat “monster”. :-)

I wonder is this rubber/plastic fascination is why they like shoes so much…

I’ll never forget the time our Moppet swallowed one of those stretchy “sticky hands” that stick to the walls (one of the kids had gotten it at the end of a doctor’s visit). The poor kitty only halfway passed it (that was how we found out she had swallowed it) and poor Grandpa (who was babysitting at the time) had to lock himself in the bathroom with Moppet and get the rest of the hand out of her backside. Needless to say, I encouraged the kids to pick out less “tempting” toys from the doctor’s goody box after that incident!

Reminds me of the “tinsel” incident when I was living at home with my mother and our two meezers (many moons, ago). Chee-chee came tearing up the basement steps and then through the house like she was being chased demons from hell. There was a “cling-on” dangling from the tinsel which *ahem* was dangling from her bottom. As she ran, the butt ornament whipped from side to side, spurring her on! I caught her and my Mother had to deal with pulling it from the “business end”….no more tinsel after that!

Okay, CatRancher, you finally got me to send in a comment.
I had a little black fur-person name Scooter. We lived in a 2 story + basement house. At the time we were having a terrible time with rats bowling in the attic. My roommate was in the basement doing laundry, I was at the ground floor landing when I heard a terrible thumping from upstairs. I looked up and saw Scoot tearing down the stairs with a rat hot on her tail. Ka-thumpety-bumpety, bang-bang-bang, she and her pursuer tore past me and headed around the corner for the basement stairs. My heart beating wildly, I followed them down. Scoot was making the circuit of the basement with my roomate as a stunned bystander. I was desperate to rescue my baby from the evil rat! I grabbed her on her third circuit. The “rat” fell away. It turned out to be one of my black tennies, which had been languishing under my bed uptstairs. She must have been playing with the shoestring and gotten the little aiglet caught in her teeth. As she raced down the stairs, the shoe was hitting her on her furry little tock, and the loose end of the string was doing a great imitation of a rat’s tail! Roomie and I both “saw” a rat because of what had been going on in the attic at night. Evil tennis shoe! As I held Scooter in my arms to soothe her, I swear she only weighed about 5 pounds. I really do believe the evil shoe scared the —- out of her! We laughed ’til tears were streaming from our eyes.

Poor little niblet…hope he’s feeling better and that big ol’ cast is off his leg…CatRancher, I didn’t think ears smelled! But we have the same problem with Q-tips around here…apparently they’re irresistible!! Who knew?

For the “what WON’T they eat?” files: One of my long-ago babies ate a button off my grandmother’s girdle! The result in that case was the same: emergency kitty operation. She was fine afterwards –except we got to laugh at her later for her exotic tastes! (The kitty, not Gran.) :)

I worry about almost EVERYTHING in my house being eaten–my “katten” is orally-fixated and can’t pass by anything on the floor without trying to munch on it. I’ll add “earplugs” to the list of things to worry about, now… :)

Noori looks just like my Atticus! I have such a weak spot for tabbies. I think cats may even be worse than dogs when it comes to putting things in their mouths! A couple weeks ago, I noticed Gabriel had something shiny in his mouth that he was playing with…it was a tiny safety pin! (I have no idea where he got that.) When I was growing up, we had a Samoyed who would always eat our crayons! It was hysterical—she would hold them upright between her paws and try to spit out the paper part. (luckily they were non-toxic…) We would always catch her in our playroom searching for our crayons. She was a nutty dog—she would also search for “treats” in the cats’ litter box!

LOL! My family used to have a dog, Sandy (she died over 10 years ago now…), who would do the following: you’d give her a chunk of your hamburger, which included burger, bun, onion, lettuce, tomato, ketchup, etc., and she would take the whole thing in her mouth, munch on it, chew it, swallow, and then delicately spit out ONLY the lettuce! :-) Hysterical, and very cute.

My cat, Summer, will steal the chicken right off of my boyfriend’s plate! He always makes up a separate little plate of his food for her, if it’s something she’d enjoy (yeah, he’s a keeper!), but if he doesn’t do it fast enough, she just tried to steal his!

**Signs of Feline Cancer**

Do you know the signs of cancer in cats? Cats get many of the same types of cancer as humans, and frequent physical exams and diagnostic tests help detect cancer before it is too late for treatment. Some common types of cancer in cats are:

Skin tumors. Although they are very common in older dogs, they are much less common in cats. However, most skin tumors in cats are malignant. All skin tumors – lumps or masses of any sort – should be examined by your veterinarian.

Lymphoma. This form of cancer is common in dogs and cats, and in cats it may be associated with feline leukemia virus (25 percent of all cases). The most common form of lymphoma in the cat affects the digestive system. The most common signs are lethargy, vomiting and diarrhea.

Mammary gland tumors. These tumors are more common in the older female cat. It is the third most common type of cancer in cats, behind skin tumors and lymphoma. Over 85 percent of these tumors in cats are malignant. Typically, a lump is felt in the breast tissue. Although they are most common in intact cats, they can also occur in spayed cats.

Abdominal tumors. Abdominal tumors are common, but it is difficult to make an early diagnosis. You should be aware of any weight loss, protracted vomiting, continual diarrhea, and/or abdominal enlargement and see your veterinarian if these signs occur.

If you notice any of the symptoms, consult with your veterinarian. If found early, most of these cancers can be cured with surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or a combination of the three, and early diagnosis will aid your veterinarian in delivering the best care possible.

I know that his little leg will heal as good as new and he will be right back to creating kitty mischief! Give him lots of love for all of us. He is a little sweety.

Poor little Noori! He looks as if he knows he is loved and well cared for. Bless you for looking after him like that.

Poor baby. I’m glad he’s ok now. He’s really pretty, but I’m biased because he reminds me of Huddy.

Poor baby. That’s one mistake he’ll only make once.

My kitten, Sydney, has a fetish for rubber bands. I’m constantly taking them away from her. She can cut through a 1/2 inch wide rubber band in one single bite.

Hi Laura, I just read this. How funny My Sydney is going to be 5 soon and she still has a fetish for rubber bands. She had a close call when she was a kitten and since then I have been extra careful. There is no end to their ingenuity when it comes to getting things they want!
She can open drawers so the rubber bands are in a child proof pill container :)

Every cat I’ve ever had has been obsessed with rubber bands. Juliet (best pet ever!) used to constantly “snap” the rubber band that came wrapped around my paper every morning. I guess I was pretty cruel in cracking up while watching her desperately try to chew the rubber band. After I threw the rubber band away, she would meow frantically while looking at my empty hands! I miss her so much at times…

My Randle, gray and white DS, loves pony tail bands. He flings them all over the house and runs wildly after them.

When he gets a rubber band, mine will hold it to the floor with one paw, then snap it against his paw while chewing it until it breaks. Guess all that fuzz keeps it from hurting when he snaps it. :)

Poor little guy! I hope he’s back to being a frisky boy. Cats will munch on the darndest things!

Will some of you join me in e-mailing officials in Missouri over a horrible act of cruelty on a trapped cat perpetrated by two city employees in Missouri? It’s being referred to as a “personnel situation!” The following link goes into further detail and includes e-mail addresses. There are strength in numbers!

It’s terrible that no criminal action has been taken! I emailed the prosecutor and police chief. I’m a psychologist, and I know that people who exhibit cruelty to animals often go on to be cruel to people — I made sure to say this in my email.

That is so true, Judy—here are some interesting stats…

In 88 percent of 57 New Jersey families being treated for child abuse, animals in the home had been abused.

Of 23 British families with a history of animal neglect, 83 percent had been identified by experts as having children at risk of abuse or neglect.

In one study of battered women, 57 percent of those with pets said their partners had harmed or killed the animals. One in four said that she stayed with the batterer because she feared leaving the pet behind.

Because the household pet is often used as a control device to keep the abused from seeking help, some shelters have developed programs to assist in these situations. Programs like Rancho Coastal Humane Society’s Animal Safehouse Program allows victims to leave their animals in foster care while they seek medical attention, counseling and help. For a national listing of Animal Safehouse/Safe Haven organizations, visit the HSUS Safe Haven Directory.

I’ll write to everyone who has an address on the website. Even if these idiots don’t care about animals, when will they learn that most of the time animals are just the start? It could be (God forbid) their child next time. Poor little handsome Noori. I just want to pick him up and give him a big squashy hug. I hope this doesn’t become a habit with him. He is almost the spitting image of my Annie.
