Tallulah

1169412674scan.jpgTallulah was about six weeks old when this picture was taken. She grew into an expert tree-climber, daring headboard walker, inquisitive flower-sniffer, and wonderful companion. She passed away last November, just a little shy of 20.

She was so sweet. Like everyone else has said, I’m sorry for your loss. My baby passed about 3 years ago at the age of almost 21. I’d had her since I was 2. The only saving grace is that she lived for so long.

Tallulah…RIP with my Pepper and all the other kitty’s that have gone before.

‘Bet you can’t see me behind this tree!’ What a little doll… and sorry for your loss. I have had but one pet in my 50+ years, and was already distanced from my Heidi (German Shep mix) by divorce when she passed. Didn’t make it any easier ! I still miss her….

Debby, makes me sad to hear that you have ever only had one pet. If your circumstances are favorable, maybe it is time to open your heart to another. Even though logically we know that we will outlive our pets, it is still hard to lose them. But for me it is harder still to live in a house with out a warm furry body or three. (husbands don’t count) The best way to honor a loved pet that has crossed the bridge is to give your love to another that desperately needs it.

Mom wouldn’t have it when I was a kid. Heidi was with us for 11 years, and was the best dog. I do have a cat now… not enough time/room for a dog. I have had my Chloe for 2 years and I wonder why I waited so long. Thank you ppearson… for opening your heart to me !

I agree with you, ppearson. My house is not a home without a kitty. 16 years ago, I lost beautiful Smokie when she was only a year and a half old. I was lost. My hubby left it up to me whether to get another fuzzball. A week later, while we were making funeral arrangements for my Father-In-Law, Shaddo came into out lives.

These first four lines may be trash
For they go against Ogden Nash
For the nicest thing ’bout a kitten is that
When it grows up, it becomes a cat.

Tallulah - such a gorgeous kitten
Easy to see how she had you smitten
But by now you must surely know
O’er the rainbow bridge she lays low
Playing gently, I know its true
Waiting to snuggle again with you.

For all of us, we feel your gloom
(At least Huddy’s Mom’s backpack saves some room).

I know you miss Tallulah’s warmth and purr
Its easy to see why you miss her.

It will never stop amzing me just how much love something so small can give. I lost my baby at 21, last July. I was gifted a baby Sphynx to love, and though she will never replace my baby, she fills the giant void a great deal! And she too is my baby now. In fact, there are a total of 4 in my life now, and I foster for a cat rescue, all thanks to the b*tchy little cat who picked me 18 years ago!

How wonderful to have enjoyed the company of pretty little Tallula for almost 20 years! Yes, I had a twenty-year kitty too, and the passing of such a one leaves a hollow place. But we can take some comfort in recalling that for all their long lives they were happy and loved–and I shouldn’t be too surprised if Tallula sends you another little one to love and take good care of, when the time is right.

Hi Sharon in Austell,
I found the recipe for low protein, that you asked for the other day. I ran across these awhile back. I have never had to use them, I just thought I’d pass the info on to you. You can investigate it and see if there is anything that you can use. You probably know better what you are looking for. You can always ask for your vet’s opinion.

Chicken & Rice Diet

1/4 cup cooked chicken breast
1/2 ounce clams, chopped in juice(canned)
1/2 cup rice, long-grain, cooked
1 Tbsp. chicken fat
1/8 tsp. salt substitute(potassium chloride)
1/4 multiple vitamin-mineral tablet
1/10 B complex vitamin-trace mineral tablet( Give it your best shot)

Chop chicken and combine all ingredients. As should be the case with all home-prepared recipes( and canned commercial food), take up and discard the uneaten portion after 30 minutes.

This diet is low-protein, low phosphoruos, normal potassium and normal sodium. Provides 55 grams protein and 1000 kilocalories as mixed.

Here is a website you can check out for more recipes, if you like. Once you click on the address, it will take you to the page. Click on “Home prepared food for your cat- recipes for cooked diets”. There are three pages, on the third is recipes for Special diets. I also seen a box to the right that said, More Reipes for CRF cats. You might want to check it out.

http://cats.about.com/od/recipes/Recipes-for-Kitty-Treats.htm

I hope this helps you and your grandkitty out.

What a beauty! She reminds me of my Annabelle, who will be 19 this summer. It breaks my heart that she’s getting near the end of her life, because she’s made such a difference in my life for so long. She’s almost completely deaf now, but still has her moments of kitten-like feistiness. We have four other cats, too, including two less than a year old. But there will never be another Annabelle.

My heart goes out to you for the loss of your sweet kitty. I lost my precious Otis last August, and am still in the healing process, but the first two or three months were gut-wrenching. It does get a little easier with time, however. I found a lot of comfort from folks online, at petloss.com, which someone previously mentioned. Prayers for pets is another wonderful site with very caring people. There is a huge virtual community of animal lovers out there who understand our pain and can help us through it–more so than some of the people closest to us, I’ve found, who think we should just “get over it.” As Sonya Fitzpatrick says, we never get over them, just eventually get used to living without them. And know they are waiting for us on the other side…. God bless!

I am sorry for the loss of you beloved Tallulah. It is never easy losing such a wonderful furry friend. Your cat was a beautiful creature. You can set up a memorial for Tallulah on http://www.rainbowbridge.com and people can visit her memorial. Know that you have friends here if you need to talk.

Serenah, I like the quote you provided. It could be said better about how we don’t get over them, we just get use to them not being around. I still miss Whiskers who has been gone two years now.

Serenah–that is all so true! I lost Juliet (best pet ever!) to renal failure 18 months ago, and even though I have 3 other cats, every once in awhile it hits me like a ton of bricks that she is gone forever. Very sad. (Wow, I just realized that today is the “anniversary” of my father’s death. It was 40 years ago today–I was just 3 1/2 years old (to the day). My mother has never stopped mourning him. She never remarried. She kind of reminds me of Mary Wollstonecraft who carried Percy Shelley’s heart (after he drowned) in a silk shroud with her for the rest of her life. Kind of beautiful–and creepy!).

Dee, Serenah, and Karin — my heart goes out to you all…we never “get over” the loss, we can only keep moving along. When a memory of a lost loved one evokes that wave of grief washes over us it can be so overwhelming. A few months ago my sister told me to close my eyes and then brought out something from behind her back and told me to smell and asked me what it reminded me of. Without hesitation, I said “Dad!” She had brought out a little leather pouch with a magifying glass in it that belonged to my Dad. It still smelled of him. We both laughed and then we cried, sobbed…he has been gone since August 1, 1995. When something triggers my memory of a lost loved one, human or animal…I always talk to them as if they have just entered the room. Sometimes just a “hello, I love you and miss you…” But it makes me feel better…I believe that they have just paid me a little visit from the other side.

Thanks for that CatRancher–very soothing. This all reminds me of “Medium” last Wednesday–did you watch it? Lynn in PA–did you get a chance to view it? What an ending–really touched me. (Not to get too “metaphysical” here, but this is an interesting story—My mother never liked the way she looked in the wedding photo with my father that hung on the living room wall. Every time she would say, “Richard, please get rid of that picture!” He would jokingly respond, “The day that picture is taken off the wall, is the day I die!” When my mother came home from the hospital the evening of my father’s death and went into the bedroom, she heard a crash in the living room—the picture was on the floor with all the glass shattered around it. My mother always felt this was my father’s goofy sense of humor communicating with her from “the other side”. Kind of interesting, huh?

Comment by Lynn from PA

Yes, Dee, I did watch it and loved the ending. Please accept my sympathy in the loss of your father. BTW, my father will be gone 10 years next month and his name was Richard, too. I truly believe that your father made sure that picture was no longer on the wall. I have had, what I believe to be visit from loved ones on the other side. They were too real not to be true. They have amused and comforted me. I guess that’s why I identify with Medium and Ghost Whisperer so much. Thanks for sharing. If they can find a way back, they will come to you.

I have heard visitors from the other side sometimes use water to tell they are with us. I had a toilet in Augusta that would flush itself I always said that is my ghost. About three months after I moved here it started up again. I laughed when it happened and said well mama it sure took you long enough to find me.

I lost my dad in August 2002, just a couple weeks after my birthday. I still miss him like crazy. We were so close. I miss his hugs and he telling me he “loved me”. He was so easily tickled. He took joy in the simplest of things and had a great sense of humor.
