Coconut
This is our Coconut, we found him two years ago running in and out of traffic. We took him to the vet and he had a little scratch on his nose. This was his favorite place to be when I was at the computer. I know what your thinking, black cat, Coconut? Well, my then four year old daughter decided that we should call him that, and it stuck. His nickname is “Coco-nugget”. He is big and fat now and loves to drink from any running water faucet in the house. In fact if he sees you heading toward one, it is a race to see who makes it first. He usually wins.

Is he waiting in the “outbox” to lick the stamps for the outgoing mail? JK
He looks like he’s waiting to play with the computer MOUSE.
Heres to many long and happy years together with your “Coconut”
I figured he was on the top of the inbox pile. He’s on top of the pile to show that he’s more important than any work you might have in there!
Cute kitty! He looks a lot like how my Squeaky looked as a kitten.
A little kit named Coconut was playing in the street
He could not have known that by doing so
His people he would meet.
Now he is a big ole cat
And silly and crazy, too
If you head for the water tap
He’ll win that race with you.
Thanks Bill:)
Love the crazy kitten look in his eyes. I am willing to bet he pounced
on the camera a nano secod after you snapped this pic.
Parer wights all over the world are wilting against the beauty of this kitty.
What a cute coco-nutter fuzz!!!!
Glad to hear Coco-Nut runs to the faucet too. All my cats want fresh water straight from the tap too. My latest kitten dips her paw in the water and then licks it from her paws. Have fun!
My Mickie used to turn the faucet on by pushing the handle with his head and then when he was through the water would run until we noticed what he had done. He hated water unless is in a glass that we had taken to drink from or fresh from the faucet.
Office Supplies FUZZ!
I wish something that cute came in the envelopes with MY electric bill…
Only $4.99? That kitten is a bargain. He looks priceless to me.
Personal Desk Assistant FUZZ
May your Coconut bring you years of happiness and joy. While your at it, Coconut, come pay my bills too!
People People, this looks all cute and fun until you have a deadline and beligerant desk helpers LOL Louis is the worst he bites my mousepad and trys to type on important Board meeting paperwork…..
I’m so glad you took him in! Black cats are special… But then again aren’t they all?
Coconuts - Monty Python
Down in an english fair, one evening I was there
When I heard a showman shouting underneath the flair
I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts
There they are a’standing in a row
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head!
Give ‘em a twist, a flick of the wrist
That’s what the showman said
I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts
Every ball you throw will make me rich
There stands me wife, the idol of me life
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
Roll a bowl a ball, roll a bowl a ball
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts (they’re lovely)
There they are a’standing in a row (one, two, three, four)
Big ones, small ones, some as big as your head! (and bigger)
Give ‘em a twist, a flick of the wrist
That’s what the showman said
Now that I’ve got a lovely bunch of coconuts (da da da da da)
Every ball you throw will make me rich (have a banana)
There stands me wife, the idol of me life
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch (all together now)
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch (harmony!)
Roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
Roll a bowl a ball, roll a bowl a ball
Singing roll a bowl a ball a penny a pitch
COOL!!! I get the first stanza of the song stuck in my head quite often but never knew the rest of the song! (Lion King) It will be stuck for the rest of the day, but at least now I know more words!!!
I had a little black kitten we rescued, her name was Yoyo. Sweet and soooo soft. We lost her at 5 yrs due to fatty liver disease.
(I stopped using that vet right after that.)
I hope you have many happy years with your little COCO nugget and that she remains a healthy kitten for many years.
wow i never realized it was that long of a song. now im gonna have it stuck in my head all day
black kitties are so pretty. i want to have a black and orange one someday, but that would add up to five. im not sure i can handle that much crazyness! shine on little raven colored baby!
that would be one black kitty, and one orange kitty. i already have a tortie
Five is a perfect number! I have five and it is delightful; however, I do want more, all the time. I am hypervigiliant because I don’t want to become a cat hoarder, but I do sort of have the feeling that it is as easy to care for 6 as it is for 5, etc. I just want to buy a big house and take in strays. Is that so wrong?
My evil plan has worked then, you will all be humming this song all day
BWAHAHAHAHAAHA
It’s originally from Monty Python’s flying circus
I’m gonna be humming it, too. But it goes way further back than Monty Python! A British singer named Gracie Field used to sing it during World War II, and it probably goes back further than that. Sounds like an English Music Hall type song to me.
Coconut is such a beautiful katkin! Glad you happened along when he was out playing in traffic.
It was the only hit song that Merv Griffin ever had when he was a big band singer.
All hail Monty Python’s Flying Circus! Still great after all these years….The song, though, is older than that. I suppose I had to answer this because of childhood memories: my dad used to sing it back in the ’60s, while faking a (not-so-good) Cockney accent. It’s a WWII-era novelty song that was–here goes, trivia fans–an early hit for Merv Griffin of TV game-show fame, if anyone remembers him. You’re right. Some of us WILL have the melody stuck in our brains for days.
too cute. He could have typed my last research paper for me!
Coconut is so cute. He looks like he is saying, Hey mom, look at me, I’m keeping the papers from blowing away! Reminds me of my Smokey, when he was little.
For the art buffs here - These are stunning photos!

HE LOOKS SO CUTE. WHEN I SEEN HIS NAME I THROUGHT HE WOULD BE WHITE. I HAVE THREE CATS THAT DO THE SAME THING IT’S A RACE IF YOUR GOING TO A SINK.. THEY LOVE RUNNING WATER.I FINALLY GOT THEM A WATER FOUNTAN AND THEY KEEP IT BUST ALL THE TIME.. ALL CATS ARE SPECIAL THEY MAKE YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOUR FEELING BAD. GIVE HIM A HUG FOR ME..:)
He is so gorgeous sitting on his white throne made of hearts. He should have a soft cushion of red velvet in there instead of such mundane things as work papers. Treat the king with more respect.
I agree Susan–The King needs a red pillow. “AWAY WITH ALL THE JUNK IN MY BED!!!”
Where is the Court Jester with my cat nip and toys. One cannot get good peasants these days - Off with their heads!
AWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW SO CUTE. I LOVE BLACK KITTYS. AND ALL CATS.
Love his eyes.
We are moving about 120 miles within the next two months. Any suggestions on keeping my two cats safe and calm would be appreciated. I know they are already concerned by the packing etc. going on. Strangers in the house we’re trying to sell and moving men are going to be quite difficult.
Try Feliway.. Pet stores usually carry it. It calms cats in stressful situations. Your vet may be able to prescribe a mild tranquiliser.
Reassure them that they are going with you and please keep them indoors … When you reach your destination keep them confined for a few days so they can become accostomed to the new smells and sounds around them.. Good luck!
Hi,
On the day of the move confine them to a small room that only you will go in so they son’t get out until you’re ready to put them in their carriers. When you get there hopefully you can put them in a small room by themselves(w/ food & water, catbox) until they calm down some and then let them out gradually. Good luck!
……Could you please untangle my toes from the metal-thingie fuzZ………………..
My Dusty likes the running water too and will lie on the floor in the downstairs half bath and wait for me to walk by hoping I will have to go into the bathroom so I can turn the water on in the sink for him. He always gives me that “look” and meows at me as I walk down the hall past the bathroom door. “Do you have to go in here now mom?” he is asking me. “‘Cause if you do I want the water NOW please!!”
Sharon
I love the way you express the dialogue we all have with our cats and the way they shape our daily lives into whatever THEY want. My Mikey tells me when its time to get up, time to go to bed and of course when I am supposed to feed them. Who needs a clock? The cats always know what time it is. They see me as a lessor being who needs to be told what to do.
That is so true. My Chloe used to be my clock and wake me up at exactly 6:00am. She was so reliable I stopped setting the alarm. She’s quit that job, though, and now only meows in my ear if I sleep in and she wants to complain that her breakfast is late. Still bosses me around in other ways too!
He looks like my cat Secret who is 17. He is also big and fat! He hates water though…I love his name, I love coconut..mmmmmmmmmm, yummmmmmmy
i’m new in here and no one ever welcomed me,most of you just ignore that i’m even here, except that one i think it was dee that finally said something about my stollen kittens, but i don’t care if you don’t accept me into your little click,i just capture the kitten pic for my kitten album.
Hi Elaine, I’m sure I speak for the rest of us when I say”WELCOME TO THE GROUP” I’m sure it was not intentional for no one to say “welcome” This is a very nice bunch of people, very easy to get along with, and I am sorry you feel left out….
Coconut is just the most beautiful kit I’ve seen….other than our W.H.(Onyx) he looked just like Coconut when he was a wee bitty kitten now he’s so big you can hear him thundering down the hallway to try to beat you to where ever it is you’re going….
Hi Elaine, Please don’t feel that way. All are welcome here whether or not ‘welcome’ posts are sent. Just join in on the friendly banter and comment on the sweet kittens. May I say that sometimes there are posts that are unusual and we aren’t sure how to take them. Please don’t take offense but I think the post about your stolen kittens was in that category and we weren’t sure how to take it. I apoligize if you felt ignored. Your story is very sad. That woman was no friend since she took advantage of you. I’m glad you went to the police and made them aware of her wrong doing. We appreciate your updates too. Everyone needs to be aware of people like that. We all love our kits and other family pets very much and we want to keep them safe. You are very kind to take in homeless kitties and giving them a warm and safe place to live. Welcome to the coolest kitten site on the web.
I concur! Welcome Elaine. Rest assured that you were not excluded in any way. I have never looked at this as a clique, just a happy group of people who share a commen interest and love for our furry friends. I don’t think everyone who posts to this site had some sort of official welcome, in fact I think I have actually seen less than 15 or so, and those only in the last 2 months. I certainly didn’t, I lurked for a while (back when only 40-80 comments per kitten were being made) and then made small tentative comments for many more months.
I personally was very distraught over your loss, I just did not know how I could help. Please don’t be put off, just keep coming back and enjoying the positive comments and beautiful babies that lurk here every day.
I want to echo the WELCOME. I have missed some postings because of computer glitches and I didn’t see yours. Whenever there is a new person on this site, like me, you have to join in and become acquainted over time. When you are a new member of any organization it takes time to become known. Keep adding your positive comments, asking questions, etc, and little by little you will become familiar to everyone too.
Coconut is simply wonderful. Thank you for taking this little sweetie in, and saving him from a terrible death. Maybe he thought those big wheels were toys meant to be played with.
Elaine.. welcome. I, too, am relatively new, without any fanfare welcome. No biggie… as the others have said, simpy add your comments and you’ll become a regular part of the TDKers. They (I?) are wonderful people !
i know i got the same but did not run me off
A tardy welcome Elaine. As someone said earlier most of just joined in and no one responded to any of my comments for months. We do welcome you come back anytime. I didn’t know what to say to you about your kittens. I was confused I thought you adopted them out then I thought someone had stollen them I’m still not sure of the exact details but I am sorry for your loss however it happened.
Dear Elaine from Portland, Ore.
I have been observing this site since June 2006, tho, never posted. After reading your comment today, I felt compelled to post. Because you didn’t receive a welcome letter or a dozen roses at the front door, does not mean that no one cares. I did read your posts, and remember them quite well. Being thousands of miles away, it would be hard to advise you on the protocol that you should take. This is a loving “blog”,where those who contribute, may share everyday, or once a month, or whatever. The bottom line is to share the love about our feline friends, and the love that they bring us (all other four legged and two legged included).!! So because you didn’t get the “welcome” that you wanted does not mean that no one cared of your situation…trust me many did…..just were lost for words on how to handle it.
amen
Dear Elaine from Portland, Oregon,
Welcome Elaine! Everyone is welcome to join in, any time to post a comment or chat with us. I know I am new to this also. I have been posting here for a few months, at least, I can’t remember when I started. I didn’t know what to say about your story. I just know you sounded so upset and with good reason. I went back and read the rest of your story after I seen a couple comments from you. So sorry for what happened. Don’t feel bad, about not having an official welcoming. I have noticed though, as the TDK circle of friends grew, they started welcoming everyone with greetings.
Elaine, You really ARE welcome, and I personally read and appreciate everything you say. I just don’t always comment. So sorry that I may have missed your entrance into the group! WELCOME, and hope the kittens that were taken will find great homes! Don’t be discouraged. Sounds like you have a great heart and new little fluffies will come your way.
Please tell us about your stolen kittens. MANY OF US DON’T stay here all the time, but catch up on the posts when we can. Go back to where you first posted and see if you have more responses now. If not, that’s unusual here. Dee would be someone who did respond. She’s amazing. Ivory
Bill is our Poet Laureate, Huddy’s mama has the communal backpack for verbally kidnapping kittens (by words only, not real) and you can ‘bring in your own, and sneek past her…if you can…., Rosie is the ‘Fuzz’ inventor, and you’ll figure out the other regulars. It’s a very nice group of people, just remember the posts and not conversing in real time.I usually lurk, that means read but not respond, but this is a special case. Enjoy the site.
Elaine: I was not officially “welcomed” either, but I must confess, I did not introduce myself, as I have seen others. I am rather new at the whole blogging experience (though I am now quite addicted) and I thought the protocol was just to jump in. I realize that may be difficult for someone who is in pain or shy, and luckily I was neither of those things, but I have felt pretty welcome here, even without official postings of greetings. I just barrel on through, and add my comments when the feeling strikes (or boredom at work is overwhelming). I hope you will do the same, as everyone is interested in the ongoing commentary.
I think ‘Coconut’ is INSPIRED. Your daughter is wise. He’s furry on the outside and sweet on the inside, right? He grew up to be almost round, and he’s definitely a nut–all kittens are! Perfect name for a little ink-dark guy who was contrary enough to be found playing in traffic. BTW, is it a trick of the photo, or do I see tabby stripes on the black of his coat?
Coconut looks just like our Tikka did at that age. She even had those tabby stripes that you could only see in just the right light. She is now almost 6 years old - but still just as cheeky as ever.
Coconut is a real little cutie!!
OMG! He could be a reincarnation of my Jenny Linski, now over the Rainbow bridge for many years. She made me fall hard for black cats (I’ve now been owned by 3 others!). Give him a belly rub for me!
bet he doesn’t fit in the ‘in’ box NOW. Of course, that doesn’t stop most of them.
A very cute kittey, hope it brings a GREAT joy to your life… Bless allon this web site…..tturtle50
Black cats make the best pillows at naptime. What a dollbaby!
My Sacha (tater) is at least 18 LBs and insists no demands the pillow above my head every night, If I do no go to bed on time he glares at me and ends up on the headboard…….I am not master of my domain I am but a slave to fuzzbutt
Coconut is a gorgeous black panther! He is extra special to me because he is a spitting image of my parents’ cat (who plays at the Rainbow Bridge nowadays). Pamper him and enjoy his company for many, many years!
Your Coconut is so cute and frisky looking!! My cat Freddy can sit by a slow dripping faucet ALL day! Cats are funny animals… Best wishes with your fat kitty!!
My Clhoe loves running water as well. And Cocounut?!?! Sweet as can be… so precious in the in-box!
Oops that should be Chloe !
Coconut is a cute little kit. Lots of smoochies and cuddles for this sweet nugget.
Coconut is a little dark angel! Love the ROUND eyes, and the tail draped over the edge of the IN basket!
My little black kitty at ten months old is a faucet stalker, too. I have one of those filters that swings up when I want water to drink or cook with, and when I use the filter, there’s a secondary stream of water that comes out behind it–Dara goes after that with a vengeance–trying to bite it, bat it. Even gets her head under it and gets all wet! Everything’s a toy with cats this age.
Here’s hoping Coconut will have a long and happy life in your loving home!
LOVE the name and his very pointy ears!
hes so cute lets hope he gets his name from his true sense!
Coco-nugget …waht a furry delicious name!
hee hee…cute name and nickname for a really cute kitten! i love hearing how she grew up to be a fat happy cat
she is so cute in that little basket.
sorry i meant to say ‘he’ not she! i realized coconut is a boy!
cool that he likes h2o too…my cats do too
What a cutie! I want to rub his little belly and scratch behind his ears!!!
thank you and anyone can email direct at dixiebell552003at yahoodot com, ilove this little black boy ,i just want to kiss his mouth.
What a cute paper weight!!! Wish you could get those at the office supply store.
Coconut [and several others, it seems] will drink from the faucet…while my three Labs will walk around a puddle to avoid getting their feet wet?? Animals!?!
Labs not wanting to be wet!? It’s the opposite here. The dog leaves a trail of puddles after he get a drink of water and the cat walks around the puddles. Our cat only drinks from the running tap too. Animals!?!
I’ve been lurking this site for months now,,,, and I have to say that I love it very much….its a gaurenteed smile for the day!!,,
Welcome, Tranis! Glad you could join us!
Notice to all lurkers: Jump in anytime you feel like commenting we welcome everyone as long as your words are kind and not abusive. Kittenmaster gets rid of those as quickly as possible. We love hearing about current kitties and ones that have gone on to play at the Rainbow Bridge. When I came to this site about eight months ago there were maybe on a busy day about 50 comments now most days there are over 200. Tell us about yourself, your pets and any concerns you have. We will laugh with you and sometimes cry but we will always be here for you.
Awww, thanks! I love this site and read it everyday.
You guys are awesome!
Thank you Kittenmaster!
Coconut is an adorable fluffy paperweight! And as I have said before, cats love to play in water, as long as they can limit the actual wetness to a paw or two.
she is so cute!! i was fostering 3 kittens and one looked like her name was tinkerbel and there was flower and tiger
I bet he’s even cuter now that he’s fully grown. Thank you for saving such an adorable cat.
he is so cute i like the name coconut
Oh My! Adorable!! I’m the biggest black kitty fan. My husband and I rescued ours too and she is our “dark angel” named Kahlua. She enjoys playing with the water facets also!
Thank you everyone so much for your wonderful comments about my Coconut. And thank you Ivory Bill for that cute poem, I just love it. Both of my daughters think he is “Famous”for being on this site. “Not like he wasn’t the most famous part of the family to begin with.” I found this site a few months ago and it is a highlight of the day for us to come home and see the new precious kitty for the day. It makes our day. My girls love it. We love cats so much and glad to know so many other people enjoy them as much as we do.
JCL
It’s grrreat to have another cat-fan from the Bayou state — after all, the mascot of LSU is — The Fighting Tigers!
“Y’all take care, and clean your paws before — and after dinner!”

Hugs to this precious baby *sneaks him into backpack*
They are right, Coconut is famous now. What a beautiful kitten. Must be even better now that he is a big kitty and there is more of him to love.
Coconut has the crazy kitty look in his eyes. I love black cats! (RIP to my rescued blackie, Lyndon, who lived to be 19 years old!) and to Cocnutters — pounce on it!!
Cute- doesnt look tooooo comfy - but it’s sweet when they just love to be by their humans. So glad he was saved!!
Beautiful cat!
Coconut with deep dark chocolate and licorice! Yummy fuzz!
I absolutly LOVE this kitty. He needs more comments.
I’m real late posting for Coconut but here is another posting for this sweet boy. I had a black cat named Salem about 10 years ago (now crossed the Rainbow Bridge). My sons named him after the cat on Sabrina the Teenaged Witch. Many people don’t like black cats but they are great. Well, I think all kinds of cats are great. I would have a housefull but my husband won’t let me.
