By the time I left work, it was too late for anything else, and most restaurants here are closed on Mondays. My husband, however, has promised something “special” this weekend. Hmmm…

Good Chicken recipe

Here is a chicken recipe that also includes the use of
popcorn as a stuffing - imagine that! When I found
this recipe, I thought it as perfect for people like
me, who just are not sure how to tell when
Poultry is thoroughly cooked, but not dried out. Give
this a try.

BAKED STUFFED CHICKEN
6-7 lb. Baking chicken
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is good.)
1 cup uncooked popcorn
(ORVILLE REDENBACHERS LOW FAT) salt/pepper
to taste
______________________________
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brush chicken well with
melted butter, salt and pepper. Fill cavity with
stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan with the
neck end toward the back of the oven. Listen for the
popping sounds.

When the chicken’s ass blows the oven door open and
the chicken flies across the room, it is done.

And you thought I couldn’t cook

My bro’s is this Friday we are traveling to Savannah to celebrate their grandson’s 2nd b-day. We will be home on Sunday so I’ll catch with y’all then. The kids moved from Charleston, SC when he was assigned to his new base at Ft. Hunter. I couldn’t visit before as they had just one bathroom on the second floor. This place is a ranch with two potties. I’ll leave Sweetie Petey enough food and water but I am going to miss that lil stinker like crazy.

When I lived in Aiea (HI), there was a feral cat with a short, “Z”-shaped tail. Whenever my husband and I took a walk, he’d run up to us and rub around our legs, but never allowed us to touch him. I always wondered what kind of accident maimed his tail like that (we had decided on it being crushed by a car; maybe one whose brakes had slipped).

Then one day, we saw a litter of kittens, all with the same “z”-shaped bobbed tail. We realized two things simultaneously: 1, that the tail was no accident; and 2, we knew who the kittens’ daddy was!

Lots of Siamese have kinked tails. There are multiple legends associated with it. One is that the princess was bathing in the spring and needed a place to put her rings. So she put them on her loyal meezer’s tail who cocked it so as not to loose them.
Another is that 2 Siamese were to guard a precious goblet in the monastery and wrapped their tails around it to keep it safe and secure.

Some of my Maine Coons have “kinks” in their tails. My Freddy has a “knob” on the end of his tail, but it is camouflaged by his very fluffy tail. (He hates it when I try to feel the bump…I think he’s self-conscious, cause he doesn’t want us to know he’s not purr-fect!) I think it gives him character! I love all his little oddities!

I am surprised by this. I guess if you are rich it doesn’t apply to you. Still, I liked that he brought more awareness to the fact that the earth is changing. We had three weeks of 100 degree weather here in California. Normally it would only be a week and it would be around the end of Aug or beginning Sept that that week would occur. Now it can happen any time. We had a hot week or two in June about two years ago where the temp came close to 100 in my area. We purposely do not have air conditioning due to the fog normally being around in the month of June to July.

You are so right. I saw the movie and think it is a MUST see for everyone. I also stand behind what Al is trying to do– increase awareness. We have so many “doomsday” predictions, but I really don’t believe that this was contrived for someone’s political agenda and fear-mongering. There are too many scientists world-wide who support global warming as fact. But what doesn’t come as a surprise is that we ALL, rich or poor, use too much and emit too much gunk (including Al and Tipper). Right now, many “alternative” housing and energy sources aren’t readily available or affordable or praticable. I think REAL “tax incentives” for conservation and lowering energy use will open things up and by REAL, I mean for the working class, mid to lower income bracket. I remember years ago when I installed a new Energy Efficient furnace and central A/C in my home and received a $700 rebate and then was sent a 1099 that this was considered “income” and taxable…geezz, thanks… OK, off soap box…I guess I’m still po’d about taxes on my rebate.

***OK, I’m not trying to start a fight with this, just trying to present a different viewpint***

But Catrancher, there are also plenty of other scientists out there who do not support the global warming theory and research that these scinetists have done has been ignored by the press because it doesn’t fit with their pre-conceived conclusions. They are also demonized in the press as working for ‘big oil’ and yet the global warming scientist that are given money by groups such as Earth First and Greenpeace are given a pass.

For example, while much press has been given to the ice melting in the artic, very little has been mentioned about the fact that the ice in the Antartic is getting thicker. If we were truly in a global warming state wouldn’t they both be loosing ice?

Also, scant mention has been made of Danish researchers Henrik Svensmark and Eigil Friis-Christensen who have completed a study of cosmic radiation and its effect on our environment and come to the concusion that the radiation has quite a bit larger effect on cloud formation (and thus global warming) that was originally thought. here’s a link to an article on it http://www.junkscience.com/Greenhouse/Cosmic_rays_and_climate.htm

Don’t get me wrong, we should clean up our environment. Brazil is running totally on Ethanol and Denmark is rolling out Hydrogen fueled cars which we still sit around and suck up gasoline. But the fact is that scientists don’t really know all the answers no matter how much they say they do.

Back in the 70’s we were told that a new ice age was coming. Then it was a hole in the ozone (which scientists now say is healing itself) Now it’s global warming. I think the truth is that the scientists are always finding some new sky to fall on us so that they can keep the research funding going.

Our government alone has spent over 30 billion a year on global warming research and what have we gotten out of it - not a whole lot except more taxes and less results.

When you read the news about any research, just follow the money, and there’s more money in supporting the global warming idea than there is in fighting it.

OK, off the soapbox for me too.

You raise a good point, Instinct, about following the money…I’ll go to your link. I love a good debate (fight!) and I love research. I guess I hadn’t even entertained the idea about hefty research grants (remember oodles of money spent researching how a frisbee flies?) being a primary impetus. But then, there’s money at the end of every call to action, isn’t there? For someone, somewhere, just not to you and me and the guy down the street. But we must come down on one side of the fence AND while I am sure this debate has champions on both sides, I prefer to “err” on the side of caution and support some of the “green” agendas. There is no persuasive argument against our being wasteful, reckless consumers of our finite resources and pollutant-extraordinaires? Is there? I do believe that our climate is changing and I do believe that there is enough substantive research to indicate it is related to our “emissions”. I also believe that the change is slow and not wholly predictable and concede that there may be mitigating factors that haven’t been addressed. I feel a sense of urgency, but not panic, and don’t anticipate eating Soylent Green in my lifetime. SO, let me do some reading — getting the dialogue going is good, especially if it serves to increase awareness and depose false “prophets,” yes? It is so much more provocative than, say, Britney’s new do? *catrancher gets off soapbox, but sits on it with her laptop open*

Agreed, there is no reason to be wasteful and to drive vehicles that create too much polution when alternatives like Hydrogen are already out there.

What I am against is fear mongering and groups that, in the name of prtecting the environment, reap large profits and instead of helping people live better just block prgress.

There is a documentary out about some of these environmental grouos- it doesn’t star Al Gore though - called mine your own buisness that shows how these groups - in the name of protecting the environment - are helping to keep people in third world countries from being able to earn a decent living by stopping any kind of development.

I guess to my view, most of the environmental groups out there fall into the same catagory as PETA does for animals.

They may have started out with good intentions, but now its about money and power.

Sorry to be another thorn in your side CatRancher, but there really is not substantive research to indicate global warming is related to our emissions. The Earth is in a warming trend, but the link to man’s activity is weak. Here is another one of the many articles I’ve “stored” on the topic. This one being from MIT. (I still love you like my sister!)

“Soylent Green” — you mean someone besides me saw that movie???

Interesting story behind it. Even though they played mortal enemies in “The Ten Commandments,” Edward G. Robinson and Charlton Heston became close friends. When “Soylent Green” was being made, Heston insisted on Robinson playing his elderly roomate, Sol. Unknown to anyone else, Heston knew that Robinson was dying of cancer and needed money to pay his final expenses and provide for the family. Nine days after filming ended, Edward G. Robinson died on Jan. 26, 1973. It was also because of this knowledge that the tears Heston shed at “Sol”’s death were real.

Hey Arcalian, I will bet that the abnormally warm weather you had was due more to the El Nino effect than global warming.

Here’s something embarassing, CatRancher. (But no one else can read this but you–haha!) Charlton Heston was one of my first real crushes! I was a 10-year-old in love with a man 40 years older. I guess I really do have a thing for older men, eh?

Is anyone else into IMDB.com? (a huge movie database– also has dossiers on practically every celebrity/musician, etc…) I LOVE that site. If you have not been there yet, be forewarned: it is addictive!

I own a copy of Buckaroo Bonzai and was very disappointed that it never got a sequel. Ok anyone out there ever seen these cult classics: Pandemonium, Student Bodies, or Rockula? The last being a fabulous quasi musical full of 80’s stars like Toni Basil and Thomas Dolby. Oops there I go again showing my age!

Hey Dee, read the article, and while it exposes basic mathmatical errors in this particular program, it does not “disprove” that our carbon dioxide emissions are negatively impacting our environment. It just proves that “that” analysis has to be eliminated as an erroneous (and falsely alarming) diagnostic or predictive tool in the research. Even the author concedes that global warming is a “concern” — he is not an alarmist, however, and neither mindset or lack thereof, were solely based on the debunking of this global warming model. And so I repeat — I am “concerned” and I do believe that we are contributing with our reckless destruction of rain forests and other natural resources as well our selfish pollution of the air and sea. Those in power almost always use fear to motivate and alter our behavior and inevitably create dissension among the ranks — from “I’m telling Mom” to “We’ve got nuclear warheads pointed at you.” I wasn’t fearful from watching “An Inconvenient Truth,” I was motivated to do what I could to increase awareness and decrease my contribution to global warming… after all, the world is a warmer place just by having me in it, isn’t it? Well, someone told me that once!!! Geez! (a little humor there, just a little) So, yes, sistah!, you know I love you, too…(but unplug the toaster when you’re not using it)

Okay, Dee…I won’t tell a soul…Yul Bynner was the object of many of my preadolescent fantasies…I still love bald guys (my Dad was bald, too…is that some kind of Electra complex?). It was either from his movie the Sun King (not sure about name, he played an Egyptian pharoah or something) or The King and I…hopelessly romantic with singing and dancing, too!

CatRancher–I always unplug the toaster afterward–all of us with OCD unplug the toaster afterward–and check it 20 more times after that! haha!

And, yes, the world is a warmer place just by having you in it although it depends upon what the meaning of the word ‘is’ is. hahaha!

Drats–I wish I had more time to write (and read) on TDK, I can only grab a couple of minutes here and there…

As I understand it, Gore purchases “carbon credits”, which are eventually paid to those power producers who have spent money to reduce carbon emissions. In other words, although he uses a large amount of power, he pays an additional amount to encourage power producers to implement more environmentally friendly ways of producing power.

On another note, the reason I love TDK is because I can see nice pictures of kitty-babies and read nice things about them. If we start getting into politics, it will really mess this place up. There are many places that I can go to get my politics fix. I hope this does not become one of the political blogs…..
