Georgie
Location: Kingston, Ontario, Canada
After wondering where the Georgie was when she hadn’t curled up on my shoulder to sleep (which is her usual spot) I found that she had climbed into a basket on the chair beside me and made herself comfortable.

First POUNCE of the day. Sorry I missed you yesterday!
FYI TDkers, the first version of the cook book is ready. I do not have a web site to put it on, so you will need to email me AT

Laundry fresh fuzz
all warm and cozy………..
Looks as if she could use a lovely soft pillow behind her head! Their creativity when it comes to places to sleep never fails to amaze.
When I got my first cat, a friend warned me not to bother with a bed. She was right; they sleep where they want to–by my legs, in the cushy chair in my bedroom, on top of the cushions on my daybed. In fact, I have caught them curled up in boxes and in my laundry basket. They always look so adorable that it is hard to be angry–even if they are squishing something underneath them.
Yeah, we got cat beds and they peed in them!!! Lesson learned. And we don’t bother with toys either… a nice shoelace or ribbon for Sammy and a twist-tie or a milk bottle ring works wonders for Teddy. They turn their noses up at anything that has a value of more than 5 cents!!
try tying a hose washer (especially the soft round-tube kind) onto an elastic string and bounce it around on the floor…the only toy my cat will have anything to do with
Ping-pong balls: dirt cheap, cats love ‘em.!
Mine like balls and catnip mice, but I won’t spend more than a buck on a cat toy. They have such short life expectancies anyway….
Ginny, In response to your question yesterday, I am in Fort Worth
Ahhh, the Metroplex–the only part of Texas I haven’t visited (unless you count a stop at DFW, which I don’t).
Someday…
Oh, be careful giving kitty a twist-tie or milk bottle ring… my poor kitty chewed a milk ring into bits and swallowed them, making her really sick! We stick with toys our babies can’t get caught up inside of them. Just thought I would pass along our experiences.
I volunteer at a shelter called Tom’s Town. The cats love those plastic strips like you find wrapped around a new box of copy paper. These seem to be the most fun on linoleum or wood floors. They just go nuts.
SOOOOOO ADORABLE!!!!!!! I could just squish her little paws and sniff / snorgle her spotted belly.
LOVE HER
me, too! soooo adorable.
Whenever I hear Georgie, I’m reminded of that thing kids would say “Georgie-Porgie puddin’ n’ pie, kiss the girls and made them cry…” HOWEVER, this Georgis is gorgeous and so precious. If I ever am reincarnated, I want to be a cat just to like to sleep in the sun.
I have a Georgie too!! But her name is ‘GEORGIE PORGIE PUDDIN AND PIE KISSED THE BOYS AND MAKE THEM CRY AND THEN SHE GAVE HER MAMA SOME HUGGIN’S” Georgie is a better name for her!!!
Hey there, Georgie Girl-Swingin’ down the street so fancy free…
I have a George, and thats the song I sing him LOL
Awwwwww!! Precious baby!!!
Hey ya’ll I found an AWESOME cat toy!!!! They are called “Pawbreakers.” They are hard solid balls of CATNIP, held together with a human food grade binding agent. They look just like a jawbreaker in dark green, hence the name I assume. You can get them on Amazon.com the cheapest. My cats went BANANAS over them….even the old guy!! Check it out…Your cats will love you!!!
thanks Renee I will check it out. Love the name.
Yea, our cat wicket knocks hers all over the place until she finally sends it under the furniture and we have to fish it out
I’ll sure try them. Thanks!
How very sweet! Beautiful little girl and a Canadian too YAY

She looks so cosy plus the horrendous weather here makes me wish I could go back to bed and cuddle with my guys.
Wishing you all a good week-end
PS. She looks so much like my Wally when he was a baby..sigh.
these kittens are so cute !!! They are helping to lower my stress level…right now i have really high stress level because of my 15 years-young kitty Velvet being diagnosed with hyperthyroid and early stage kidney failure. Getting her to eat is a challenge and it’s the first time any of my pets have had a major illness/problem. please Wish us well !!!
I’m sorry your baby dosen’t feel well, I think my doodle is in the same boat.
Hey Cheri! You and Velvet hang in there, my 16 year old Kittyman was diag with hyperthyroidism last year, it attacked him so fast I didn’t know what was going on. He’s on Methamizole (?) now, which is human thyroid medicine and he’s doing great. He’s got his appetite back and his weight gain was such a welcomed sight. My thoughts are with you and MerD too. I know exactly what you’re going through,,,
Hi LeeAnne! My Lucky was diagnosed last year with hyperthyroidism too, and is on the same meds as your Kittyman. Lucky’s appetite increased as well along with weight gain. Only problem is he weighs more now than before he got sick! So Cheri, you hang in there. Things will get better for you.
*Snuggles and kisses Georgie and slips him into backpack with his blanket**
My prayers are with you also.
Hang in there, Cheri - many good thoughts and prayers for Velvet. My 16 years young Shaddo is hyperthyroid and I use transdermal meds on him, which has been working well. I thought I would lose him about a year ago, but he’s doing better. Don’t know too much about kidney treatments, but I will hope for the best for both of you. Keep viewing TDK; the cute kitties will surely help your stress level. Also, the cat lovers on this site are so compasionate…
Hi Cheri,
Do you have a really good vet? Cause it can make a big difference in the quality of life Shadow has. I know there are many kitty appetite stimulants and wet food is always more palatable than dry.
Good luck. Remember they have 9 lives! She might surprise you and live a few more years.
sorry meant VELVET
Good vibes are going to Shaddo too.
…….and doodle! I don’t think I had enough sleep last night!
Cheri, I hope Velvet will feel better soon. It sure is difficult when our loved furry ones are ill.
Wishing health to Shaddo and Doodle too.
Best wishes for you and kitty
Prayers for your Velvet - sorry she’s not feeling well.
Cheri…so sorry to hear about your kitty, Velvet. Did your vet give you some high caloric cat food? You can also ask your vet to give here an appetite stimulantse (actually an antihistamine) if it is not contraindicated with her other meds or condition. When I can’t get one of my kitties to eat, I’ll mix it with some all meat baby food and feed them with an infant spoon… They like the extra attention, too.
Hang in there, Cheri. We’re all thinking of your little Velvet and sending her good health wishes. It’s so hard worrying about your babies. Give her lots of hugs and snuggles for us!
Hang in there Cheri, my Whiskers was diagnosed with kidney disease when she was 15 and managed to live another year before chronic kidney failure. My vet put her on KD feline formula that basical extended her life. The other suggestions sound like something to ask your vet about. I understand the stress and will say a prayer for you and your Velvet.
Hi, Cheri. I’m so sorry to hear about Velvet’s medical problems. My Mrs. P was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism three years ago. She’s a “mature kitty” (an old broad, more like it), who suffered a near-fatal bout of fatty liver disease six years ago, so I opted to give her methimazole twice daily instead of the more drastic radiation treatment for her hyperthyroidism. I didn’t want my poor old gal to have to spend one more day in intensive kitty care at a hospital. Anyway, the methimazole has worked very well. I have a compound laboratory mix it up in a chicken-flavored elixir, and I dose her twice a day by mixing it up with her food. If I notice she’s not eating with gusto as she usually does, I give her cyproheptadine, which comes in a pill form. Mrs. P refuses to be pilled (she *is* a pill but won’t *be* pilled) so instead, I slip the cyproheptadine into something called Pill Pockets (available at most pet food stores), and they work like a charm. The upside is that with patience, plenty of cash, a good vet, and much love, Mrs. P has lived on to rule her royal subjects well into her old age. I estimate that she’s about 17 or 18 (I found her as a stray 11 years ago). I hope that you can use some of this information to care for Velvet. Don’t despair!
My 3 year old stopped eating this week for no apparent reason, the vet has him on NutriCal(high calorie/protein supplement) until we can determine what kind of tests need to be done. I hope all goes well for you and your cat.
And yours! 3 yr olds start to mellow out and become more sedentary-especially if they’re fixed. Let’s hope it’s only that.
When dixie doodle was young she did this, then stopped cleaning herself, then started drooling patheticaly. Turns our she had swallowed a string and had a HUGE hairball that was wrapped around the string. Two doses of hair ball stuff from petsmart, it all came up. and she was then fine. Might try it before you spend alot of $ on the vet bill.
I’m so sorry Velvet is sick. It is a good thing vets have so many more avenues open to help our pets get well and stay healthy. Have you tried Whiskas juice for her? Just buy those little foil packets of Whiskas. Make sure you get the bites or bits not the mushy kind. Open the pack, add a couple of tablespoons warm water and strain the “juice”. This stuff has been a life saver when my cats are sick. Plus cats with kidney issues should have more fluid.
Also, try babyfood. I use Gerber 0-3 month. My Juliette, the one with food avoidance issues, likes the chicken and ham. Good luck with little Velvet.
Purring for your baby.
That’s the cutest little dryer sheet I have ever seen… BOUNCE Fuzz!

Introducing the New Snuggle softener Spokes Fuzz
What an adorable fuzz ball — reminds me very much of Rockie when she was that age!
Georgie looks so sweet and snuggly in her laundry basket! What a nice way to start a rather “dreary” Friday. Hope all you TDKer’s in the last storm’s path are safe and warm…
Where in Iowa are you from? I just finnished reading a book called “Postville” about the city of Postville and the things that have happened there. You anywhere close to there? Little Gorgie sleeping in the laundry is so sweet.
Athena — I had to Google Postville… I live in the Quad Cities (Bettendorf, IA) we are south and east of there. Don’t believe I’ve ever been there unless I was driving through. From what I read about Postville after Googling it…they are experiencing some ethnicity problems due to a kosher plant being built there and the influx of many ethic peoples… When I was growing up (30 or better years ago) it wasn’t unusual for a rural kid who moved to the Quad Cities to have never seen a person of color. Because of our location and proximity to John Deere, Alcoa, and other large international manufacturing plants, we have a diverse population AND I hope, have a bit more urban sophistication than the long-time residents of Postville! We DO have our fair share of hicks and rednecks, however, LOL! When I used to visit my friend in Tulsa, he used to introduce me as being from Illinois (we’re right on the border)…it made me laugh…he thought he was doing me a favor by making me sound less like a “hick farm girl” I promptly corrected him and stated that I was “from Iowa — about 2-1/2 hours from Chicago, we’re like a suburb.” The standard reply was…”is that where they grow potatoes?” “No…..that’s I-DA-HO.” Too funny!
I found the book very interesting. about 30 years ago we moved to a rural / small town area that was all czech and german. Being a greek I really stood out with all the fair skinned and light complected people. I dropped out of high school it got so bad. I got call mexican, a jew, indian and told to go back where i came from. I would just laugh at them and said I was born and raised right here in nebraska. Then when the packing plant expanded and the asians moved in the whole town was in an uproar but after a few years things settled down. then again a few years ago the packing plant expaned again and the hispanics moved in the town has been in a uproar split over the hispanics. The whole area has changed so much over the last 5 years we now have gangs, violence, even shooting things that had never happened in this area. And my presective has changed now, the hispanics think I am one of them. I am talked to in spanish in the store on the street or where ever I am. I just cuss them in greek and they have no idea what i have said and usually just walk away…..lol. The small town and rural areas are having a hard time with the changes in the culture here. It used to be you heard the people talk czech or german on the street now it is spanish and the whole atmisphere of the community has changed. sorry about the spelling evan is up here helping me….lol
I hope that one day we can become a global community and, also, celebrate our ethnic heritage without fear or arrogance. We’re still aways off, though… *heavy sigh*
Kali spera!
Ginny are you greek too? i have a cousin Ginny short for virginia.
No, I’m as WASP as it gets, but I used to live very close to Tarpon Springs (one of, if not THE largest Greek communities in the country–big enough for the Metropolitan to come down every year for Epiphany!) My two oldest kids even used to go to Greek School–that’s how I picked up what little I know. I already knew the Greek alphabet–part of your education when you grow up in a college town
Welsh Irish :))
Catrancher - My officemate is from Idaho, and the one thing that always irritates her is when people say, in response to learning she is from Idaho, “Oh, a mid-western girl”. She always turns to me and says, “Midwest WHERE exactly”? Doesn’t anybody know that Idaho is not in the Midwest? Of course, being from Los Angeles, I just know that there is California on the West Coast, New York on the East Coast, and the big square states in between. Geography was never my strong suite.
And by the way, there are hicks and rednecks EVERYWHERE. Not limited by geography, simply smallness of mind-
You blessed them out in Greek? Now that is a hoot! You can always hurl some baklava my way…
One of my chosen children came to Ga from Puerto Rico and she’s part Syrian and you can imagine she got a lot of harrassment, too. Way uncool…
My daughter is a track and field athlete and she says baklava is her secret energy food……lol must be all the sugar and honey. Since it is orthodox lent won’t be making any until eastern orthodox easter. I could send you the recipe it really isnt hard to make just a bit time consuming. I have my yia yia’s cook book, have to convert the measurements they are in metric
Fluff and fold fuzz!
Hey, looks like it’s “cats in containers” week here at TDK!
Cute laundry kitten!
Georgie is a beauty! Love his spots!!
Good morning TDK friends….HAPPY friday!!
Happy Friday to you and all the TDK friends as well.
I love fridays. I get 2 whole days to spend with my babies (2 legged ones of course). Unfortunately the MR is allegic to cats but I have the kitties of the community and my nieces as well as the TDK to get my fuzz butt fix. I love the TDK. It always puts a smile on my face especially when I am having a REALLY bad day (like yesterday) this site always brings a smile to my face.
Yes, the weather is horrific here - and no doubt in Kingston and Binghamton? - I’m working at home but do have to go out later this afternoon. It isn’t very cold, but it has been snowing heavily with gusts of wind.
My cat - not a kitten for many a year now - has settled onto the back of his green armchair, as warm air rises from a baseboard heater behind it.
Awww…look at the smile on that kitten! She’s sooo happy!
to all my fellow TDK’ers. good nd bad news.
today is my last day in this job i start a new one closer to home on monday, good news for me as i will no longer face up to a four hour commute every day, bad news as i dont know if i will have web access to this site in my new job, im working on getting internet access at home but need a new computer as mine is too slow and wouldnt support broadband (saving desperatly)
so the bottom line is i wont be around for awhile possibly
so anyways i hope you all keep safe warm and well and i hope to be back soon
Congratulations on the new job, Fiona. I hope you can still join TDK.
Good luck in your new venture…. and I hope you get re-connected soon. Hard to go a day without these cuties.
Georgie is just a basket of loveable fuzz !
Fiona,
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the rain fall soft upon your face,
And, oh heck, CONGRATUALTIONS!!!!!
Hang in there with the computer!!! We’ll be eagerly anticipating your lilting posts! Meanwhile, have a Harp for me (although I prefer dark beers, I never could develop a taste for Guinness!)
Purrs and snorgles to ya!
You would have to mention Guinness. I can drink me some Guinness, that is the Irish coming out….
Sounds really good on a boring and chilly day at work…
What! You don’t like Guiness. Big black mark on your record for that one.
Guinness is perfect, it’s food and beverage in one container
The world’s most perfect foods are Shiner Bock and Blue Bell ice cream (but never at the same time)!
Besides, why are you complaining? More Guinness for you!
BTW, How many surreal artists does it take to change a lightbulb?
Blue.
What’s a surreal artist’s favorite color?
velcro.
How many art critics does it take to change a lightbulb?
none, they’re too busy studying the concept….
You forgot : may you get to heaven 30 minutes before the devil knows your dead
Good luck on the new job.
At least with the time difference, if you can get on at home, your evening is still prime time TDK time in the states. Lots of folks to chat with! Good Luch. Ditto on the Irish Blessing. In what town is the new job?
