Don’t worry, she’ll appreciate the care in the long run! Cute!
I remember how the chincilla persian I once owned would sound so pitiful when we gave him a bath. With his fluffy fur wet and his unhappy expression, he looked so pitiful, like a little drowned rat just rescued. None of the cats I have owned ever liked baths, but sometimes you ahve to do it–espoecially if fleas are a hosehold problem.
My josh she is so cute your cats breed well
God bless
what a darling!
Too cute….poor little one looks like a drowned something….
GOOD MORNING ALL AND HAPPY WEEKEND!
Get back to where you once belonged FUZZ
Human, for this you will die in your sleep FUZZ
awww how adorable that is so horrible that it was abandoned and stuff jojo is adorable.
i will hurt teh person who did this if i ever see him/her
i meant the
Awww, poor little thing! Bless you for rescuing her & giving her a nice home. Hope it’s a rewarding experience for you both!
Its just a bad fur day!
Jojo is so lucky to have found someone like you to care for her. I was given a kitten with ringworm, he was only 5 weeks old and I had to bath him in special soap and put cream on him. I saved him though the rest of the litter did not fair as well. He never really liked me after all the baths but he liked my husband Jim and they have been very close for over ten years now. He’s quite a character.
I would like to thank you everyone who sent a prayer for my son Gary, he did very well through the surgery. The Dr. said it took a little longer than usual, over seven hours, but he was able to complete everything he wanted to and that the surgery went “wonderful”. Now it’s the road to recovery, at last. I feel I truely had a support group behind me, bless you all.
Hi Sherry-Good to hear all is well with your son. The TDKers are an amazing group. We are here to support and advise all who ask. Some of us can not always post comments but we always read the comments. Big hugs and loud purrs to you and your family. Healing thoughts and prayers to Gary.
Sherry in AZ,
Glad to hear your son’s surgery went well. Best wishes on the road to recovery ahead.
I can hear your relief. So happy for your good news. I hope your son will make a fast recovery. I know you are in all of our thoughts and prayers.
Oh, it’s so good to hear that his surgery went well, as well as it could go, anyway. Send him our well wishes for a great and speedy recovery! I’ve had a few family members go through strenuous surgeries and I know how difficult it can be to get back to normal, but eventually it will come! You’re in my thoughts!
How wonderful that the surgery went well.
Sherry, I am so glad the surgery was successful. Sending him positive thoughts that he heals quickly.
Our Hudson was found to have a terrible case of fleas after we adopted him. The vet found them a few days later and they gave him a flea bath. Since they were busy they brought him out bundled up in a towel (80% towel, 20% kitten) and asked me to hold him while he dried a bit. I felt shaking and thought he was shivering, but then I realized he was purring like crazy. Must have felt good to loose the fleas!
i’ve just discovered ‘the daily kitten’. most of you seem to be in the U.S. but i’m a kitten lover from the U.K. I had a black and white cat named Tequila who actually died from breast cancer (all owners of female cats please check them for lumps)-something i didn’t realize could occur in cats.
Sorry for your loss Debbo, but we are happy to have you join our friendly family of feline friends.
thanks that’s very kind of you
Jojo is such a cute little fluff!! Thank you for taking care of her.
Have a great day TDKers!

Brandi Lee, I sure hope you have a really really big house.
I only have 16 cats and live alone in 1150 sq. ft and don’t have enough room. Can’t even imagine how you do it. Do you have any space that you can call your own; A place where you can get away from it all, even if only for 1/2 hour or so?
You are so right about them coming home again. My son left home at least 3 times and came back again. He just left again to move to another town with his soon-to-be wife and maybe this time he won’t move back. It’s said, until everything of theirs is out of the attic and basement you can be sure they will be back. Oops, I’m still storing some of his stuff.
They leave things on purpose LOL like 2 dogs that are my sons and a himalayan named Damion that belongs to my other daughter Jessica LOL…………you think there is a limit or age to which the get were its ok to not worry and BAM somthing happens and there they are LOL……….I have a HUGE 4 bedroom house with basement………..the cats have the following rooms (lol) the dinning room for all thier tunnels and cat toys, the formal living room empty except for a forest of cat trees (usually cover in cats by 2 pm as the sun hits them) part of the kitchen where they eat and all of the basement LOL…….I have a home office, because me and the hubby did a real dumb thing like start a software company…..dumb because some days I wanna kick his butt (big grin) so I stay home and work to take care of my FUZZ, but have a couple of business trips coming up……..PS anyone in Longbeach CA I will be in town April 27-30 and Miss Karin I am headed toward San Fran after to see my brother…..
And my other place is my bathroom for privacy If I dont mind and the kittens staring at me like I must have lost my mind (big grin)……
Hey Brandi if you need a pit stop in between LA & SF let me know. Lots of good food and nice wine. Along with lots of beautiful scenery. Shhh don’t tell anyone I said that.
LOL will be driving the length so might be possible……..:)
Oh dang, Brandi Lee…I’ll be in Long Beach from the 25th of March to the 28th on business (UA Writer’s Conference) and then on to Sacramento/Granite Bay to visit my sister. Wish we could have been there at the same time…

Hey Brandi Lee, just saw your posting of coming this way. You can look me up if you like. my email is lioness036 at yahoo dot com
I salute those who go into the armed forces. My father was in the army and was in Berlin, Germany whent he wall went up in 1961. He was an MP and escorted some of the army brass. My step uncle was in Vietnam and didn’t tell me about it until a month before he died from a heart attack at the age of 53. It turns out he was first the person to go in and inspect fox holes for the enemy, then promoted to the amunitions carrier and then promoted to the radio carrier. All three positions were high risk and he managed to make it out alive with all of his body intact. He married and lived a decent life till his heart attack. Thank God for that.
WOW what happened to the first part? It read my Pregnant Daughter and her husband moved back in ……. so thats One preg girl her hubby 27 cats 7 dogs and a hubby
thank god I have a maid once a week come in LOL (forgot the 2 turtles)
Hey Brandi,
When is the baby due and do you know the sex yet?? That is SO exciting girl!!! Congratulations to you Grandma!!!
Bumblebee, Yes its a boy and his name is Ryan Bradley Lyn Thurber !!!!! I get to talk to him LOL although christina gets sick of me yelling at her stomach lol
oh and June is when he is expected lol sorry I am a bit off today LOL
Congrats G-ma to be. If you have another litter of kits or two, you’ll have a football team.
Congratulations, Brandi Lee! I’m going to be a Grandma (2nd time) around July 4th (maternity ward fireworks!)… I only have one daughter, who is preparing to give me my second grandchild
I am so happy for you. Grandkids rule. I have one 6-year-old granddaughter, Lorna. We don’t know the sex, yet, but are hoping to find out next month. I know what you mean about the kids coming home… My daughter had moved out and I completely re-did her room. Must’ve done a good job, cuz she was back in about 3 months. I can feel your excitement between your words. As much as we hope they will be independent, it’s still kind of nice to have them home again, yes? If my daughter and her husband ever fall on hard times, they know that my door is always open…but my home’s a bit smaller than yours! Anyway, I am happy for you and your family…
*ahem* we KNOW the sex of my granddaughter, Lorna…she’s a girl…I reread what I typed and realized how I was flitting around… I need to edit before I hit Add comment! lol
was just looking at “Freddy” wow he is just awsome, I saw at a cat show a couple of years ago a maine coon that was a real standout too his name was “Stevie Ray” I always remember his name because i’m a fan of the music
I knew what you meant lol .I think we hit LB at the same time though……..at least a day matches so think about having a drink in the land of my birth
one bottle of champange on the beach I used to run as a toddler lol
I am beyond excited LOL this little kido is like a miracle to me, I mean I get a good life, I live day to day with the fuzz and then I find out I more what a fantasic gift
I hope the fuzzbutts love him LOL how could they not……
I read somewhere that grandchildren our parents reward for not killing their teenagers! Congrats Brandi Lee on the impeding arrival. Christmas was wonderful with around here with five kids under the age of five and two of them were only months old. I never had children but had the best of both worlds I got to love and spoil them and then send them on down the road.
poor baby, would love to see her all grown up….. make her a profile on catster. my “boys” get baths every couple of months and hate them takes them a couple of days before they will make up to me but they are long hair have oily coats and just dont keep themselves nice and clean……….. Sherry so glad to hear you son is doing well we will all keep him in our prayers for a speedy and full recovery
Good Morning, TDKers -
How long does a cat usually stay in heat? Maizie started hers Wednesday evening. I’m being very careful to confine her when I let the dog in or out, and keep her in the bedroom when I leave the house. Food, water and a litter box are handy to her in the bathroom.
I had about 18-20 cats and kittens (mostly feral) for about 3-4 years. They came and went as they chose. A neighbor adopted a redbone hound, and when there were only 5 cats left I brought Maizie inside. She acted like she was finally where she ought to be! One more stray got killed, so now I have 3 outside, only one I’m able to touch. The dog is not around as much (I spoke to the neighbor) and the ones left seem able to hold their own. But Maizie is the one I manifested the day she showed up at work and I just couldn’t leave her out - she was still a young kitten.
Hi Janet,
To answer your question, I would say 2 weeks, to be on the safe side but I could be wrong. You could call your local vet and ask them. It would be so much better for the both of you, if you can get her spayed as soon as possible. I had all of mine fixed and they are better off for it. For two of them, it made their personality better. Where they were always so grumpy and stand-offish, they became friendly afterwards and let me pet them more. Good luck with your kitties. I know what it is like to try to tame skiddish cats. It takes time and patience.
Oh no Renee..there is a stray in my neighborhood who is in heat. Comes around in the wee hours of the morning and howls like a banshee. Very thin kitty so I don’t think anyone owns it. I thought about trying to trap it and take it to a local shelter. I called the shelter and they said they are all full and said do a trap and release. I couldn’t do that to the poor cat. I am in a quandry as to what to do. I wish my neighbor who feeds the strays and is retired would get off his couch and try to catch it. Oh well.
Karin, trap/neuter/return it is still the best option if no one can take the poor girl in. If she is spayed and gets a rabies and distemper shot at least she will have a better life than if she is always caring for a litter of kittens. The shelter may offer an inexpensive spay program. It is fairly easy to do and so rewarding for you and the cat.
Do a trap/neuter/release. Get ‘em rabies and distemper and maybe FIV too if you can afford it and the vet will do it. The cat will be the better for it and won’t have to find so much food if she’s not having to feed kittens. Even if she has to find her own food and place to sleep after it, by doing the spay you’re still cutting the cat a break.
Okay, will look into borrowing a trap from the local shelter to trap her to bring her to get fixed and some shots. I can’t really afford it at this time but would rather have her taken care of then in so much discomfort with kittens.

But he knew it wouldn’t last.
Jojo left his home in Tucson, Arizona
For some California grass…”
Hi Instinct,
Are you trying to quote the Beatles’ song?
JoJo is so cute. So glad you could help her out, even though, she probably didn’t like the bath! She’ll appreciate it later. JoJo has such a pretty color of fur.
Yes, Jo Jo is adorable. Love her coloring and the color of her eyes. Bless you for caring for her and giving her a nice home!
JoJo’s a sweetie-pie, I’ll bet…she looks like a long-hair (which are SO much more entertaining to bathe
) and she has such pretty coloring–judging from her little face, at least!! Hopefully she forgot about the indignity of the bath (and the fact that you took pictures afterward…hehehe). Poor soggy little girl…I’ve seen this face on more than one fuzzbutt in my time!! (Now, though, I’ve got Snickers, the shower-cat–every time I turn the water on, he has to get HIS shower before I can have MY turn!! He just stands under the water til his fur is soaked, then shakes like a dog–spraying everything in his path, of course–and starts licking the water off his fur! (He doesn’t like water in a bowl; he wants his directly from the source, be it shower or faucet.) Afterwards, he looks just this soggy–but nowhere near as tragically miffed about it!!
)
JoJo is so precious. Just want to pick her up in a fluffy towel, and give her a big cuddle hug.
Hi Elene in PA,
I have a question for you. You were talking the other day about feeding the bluebirds and mentioned a mix that you fed them. It consisted of mealworms, peanut butter, raisins, cornmeal and sunflower seeds. Do you use any specific amount of ingredients?
I never knew bluebirds would eat birdfood that much. I’ve never seen them eat our sunflower seeds. When we used to feed the birds regularly, we had all sorts of birds. Cardinals, bluebirds, titmice, gold finches, chickadees. nuthatches and redheaded woodpeckers, snowbirds and the occassional squirrel!
We used to go thru a 50 lb bag of blackoil sunflower seeds during the winter months. Now, it won’t be long until my hummingbirds show up, about mid-April last year. They usually show up around mother’s day. I think I had a baby hummer, last year. So cute and small.
Renee, I feed the BB’s live meal worms. For mom and dad BB I give 25 worms in morning and 25 toward evening. Once the babies hatch I just stand at the platform feeder and put out worms until mom and dad stop coming. It usually can be 50 at each feeding, which can then be 4 or 5 times each day. Once the babies fledge they start coming too. Then it can be 100 worms or more a day. I usually buy 3000 meal worms for the peak times and 1000 for the slower times. In my area the BB seem to leave by September most years and return in March to find nesting sites.
I have different recipes for the Peanut Butter mixes. One for cooler weather and a few for the hot weather. The cooler weather one has suet which doesn’t handle heat very well. If you would like the recipes I’ll be glad to give them to you.
I know what you mean, just cuddle and hold her till she’s all warm and fluffy and purrrrrrrrrring. She looks so cute, so vulnerable and helpless. It’s great she has someone to love and take care of her.
I’d love to see a picture of JoJo all dried off! Kelsie used to let me bathe her when she was little, but outgrew my ability to control her when she grew up. I had her bathed at the vets when I was remodeling the house - she was in construction dirt all of the time. I was boarding her there for a couple of weeks, and she was all wet and VERY insulted when I went in for one of my daily visits! I brought her home when the floors were all laid. She had taken to hiding under the comforter - thought she was invisible to the guys and they would just slide the bed around with her in it, and she never moved. To this day it is her favorite place to hide. Big lump in the bed? Not me, she must be thinking.
Poor darling Jojo faced a double curse
Unspeakable nasties or a bath; which was worse?
But water torture was a small price to pay
To get a forever place to stay;
She’ll take the soapsuds any day.
Hey Ivory Bill,
Did you see my post to you a couple of days ago? I asked what was your favorite bird???
Hi, Bumblebee……
My favorite bird(s) are ducks. They always seem to be happy and they hang out together seemingly just to hang out together. A close second is/are kingfishers. They just look so cool. Or maybe its vultures because they fly so beautifully, serve a public health service, and are so maligned.
Of course I could go on and on….. I really like all birds- they all have something cool about them. Pileated woodpeckers included. (Many ornithologists suspect the ivory-billed woodpeccker sightings in Arkansas to have been pileateds….)
Now you know why I didn’t/couldn’t answer.
My posting habits on here being what they are (if I am awake at 3:07pm GMT, I will post — then I don’t usually get back on here until 3:07am GMT the next day) I usually don’t respond to questions because I figure no one will be looking for them, as there is a big delay ‘twixt post and reply.
So, Bumblebee, I must ask (with tongue slightly in cheek) what is your favorite insect? Have you read/heard about the declining US honeybee population?
Hi Ivory Bill,
Would you mind me asking what does pileated mean?
I’ve never heard that term before, but I do know what woodpeckers are. We have one woodpecker here that has a red head but it has a pointed cap like the red cardinals have and he’s a big woodpecker, he can give a bluejay a run for his money! We also have kingfishers, swallows and road runners. Thrush also, but my dad used to call them Flickers. They look similar to Meadowlarks but bigger without the yellow coloring. Hope you and Joshua are doing ok. Well, I’ve got to run. I’ll catch your reply later or tomorrow. Take care.
Gawrsh — replying to two posts at once, in no particular order:
1. I don’t know what pileated means. But the bird you, Renee, describe — semi-gigantico bird with black back with pointy red head sounds like a pileated. How does it fly? Pileateds seem to fly in a sort of erratic series of up-and-down semicircles. A flicker is a kind of woodpecker. If your bird pecks wood and is about a foot long, with a spotted belly and an eyestripe it’s probably a flicker. Otherwise, I have no idea…. but I am not a lifelist type birder… I just think that they are cool. Besides mammals, birds are the only known warm-blooded animals on Earth. As for devotion to cats and love of birds….. let’s just say that Joshie appreciates birds, but in a different way than I do.
2. Bumblebee, Joshua is the Tonkinese cat who lets me feed him and change his litter. In return, he insists on my being within two feet of him, although he prefers my lap, or preferably my chest when I am supine. Renee, he is doing fine… amazing how getting him away from a bad vet helped…. plus… I have found that he really likes Swanson’s chicken broth… so he has been really happy lately. (I got some free-range chicken broth from Whole Foods and he just turned his nose up and walked off). Don’t worry, Joshie’s primary diet is varied — ProPlan/Iams/Science Diet for older kitties. But just like an overweight person should have some ice cream or a chocolate bar (its fun, and makes life worth living), Joshie gets his chicken broth.
3. BB - That was a very moving story about your Dad and the wood duck. It just so happens that there is a large state park near here, and one winter about ten years ago a bazillion or so wood ducks stayed there. The exposure to so many gorgeous birds is what made me into the rank amateur birdwatcher that I am. Its also why I am partial to ducks.
4. BB - I love butterflies myself. In my formerly married life, we kept all kinds of butterfly-attracting plants in the garden. Houston is on the migration path for Monarchs and Swallowtails. The Swallowtails would lay their eggs on the dillweed, and we would watch the cocoons develop and the babies grow up and fly off.
At any rate, I am not sure what the statement “Comments wont nest below this level” means, so I have attempted to reply to two postings at once, I hope that this posting follows those of you both, Renee and Bumblebee. I also hope that this was coherent, as I am at work, and have been distracted whilst writing it.
Hello Ivory Bill,
I do go back and check for answers on previous posts.
Yes, I did hear of the declining honeybee population. Did you know they can sniff out explosives?? Isn’t that awsome???
I like Kingfishers also. They have a cool call. I grew up seeing/hearing them along the canal. How about the wood duck? Beautiful animal, my dad’s favorite! The morning he died, one came swimming down the canal past our house. That was very special as we rarely saw any. I got the call from the hospital early that morning, then stared out the window, not long after, there it was!!! Wow! How touching…..
My favorite insect… hum… Butterflies maybe? The monarch especially as we raised about 10 of them and held each one before letting it go. I homeschooled my daughter, and raised them one year. Insects are pretty cool too. When my daughter was young, she would get so excited over seeing one and would call me over.
Sad news about the Ivory Billed woodpecker if that is true.
Do you have cats??
Nice chatting!!!
That is a beautiful story about your Dad, Bumblebee. I am sorry you lost him.
Hey Karin,
Thanks for the post. That is so sweet of you to say. My dad was a special man and I loved him to pieces…..
Thanks…..
ooops,
Now I see I could have replied to both Renee and Bumblebee separately. Please forgive my incompetence.
Bumblebee, my response to you is in my post replying to Renee.
Ivory Bill,
That’s alright, that you replied to both of us at once. I believe just about everyone reads all of the comments. Thanks for answering my question. Glad you and Joshie are well. Yes, I do believe in giving kitties some special treats, from time to time with their regular food. Mine love it when I give them special treats of some white gravy or broth over their food. It keeps them from getting bored with it. They are just like people, they like variety too.
How cute! I bet she’s gorgeous when she’s all dry and floofy.
People One little bath is a nice thing to get used to …… 4 or 5 curious then furious kitten plopping into your tub while your in it not so nice
LOL
Ah! One always feels so good after a nice shower and an invigorating rub down with a coarse towel!
What a pretty little darling! I’ll bet she was abandoned and you took her in–bless you for giving her a good loving home with attentive care! No little kitten should end up dirty and covered with fleas. I bet she’s much happier now! Love that little one always.
What a sweet little love, with such interesting coloring!
Hi Lisa-LOVE your site! Just put it on my favorites list. One can never have too many candles.
What a sweet little soul! JoJo is just precious!
Huddy’s Mom’s going to need a backpack liner for this soggy little baby??
Love her to death, spoil her to bits and keep us up to date on her progress
anyone entering the military services,be on the lookout. i have a friend whose son is one of eight being tried right now for murder.the military has turned their backs on these men.they’ve put their lives on the line for our freedom, and that’s the thanks they get for following orders.all i can say is be careful.and God Bless the men & women still there fighting for our freedom
Yay! A little MO kitty! Howdy, neighbor!!! This is just adorable, but I can tell little JoJo is…um…a little eeked. Beautiful girl! This comes at just the right time after the giving the cat a bath posts the other day!
BTW, hello everyone! Have just enough time this weekend to stop in and say hi, but must be going now. Have a great weekend.
