Karamel

Location: Izmir, Turkey

KaramelKaramel is a lazy and beautiful kitten. She is different because her two sisters were pure white but she is pure black. We found her and her mother in our garden’s woodshed. It was hard to see her because she was disappearing in shadows. Everywhere in our house is her playground, as you can see…

Good Luck in whatever you do. Hope your back feels okay.

I love cats, but I don’t think I would be thrilled if the little angel decided to lick my eyelids.. since cats like to groom themselves. everywhere. All I can think of is where has that tongue been? yuck :)

Comment by Kate the Grate
2007-03-05 17:16:04

Remarkably, even with the places that tongue has been it is cleaner than our tongues, for the most part. I read this in a cat vet journal that I subscribe to, and I couldn’t help thinking about that the next time my boyfriend wanted to kiss me (REALLY kiss me).

I let my Desdemona wash me every night. Aforementioned boyfriend claims that she is nursing, but my response is “And your point would be what, exactly?”.

Comment by Rosie in SA
2007-03-05 17:51:01

That is why I have NEVER French kissed-I am repulsed by spit! And yes you are right, cat’s tongues are cleaner, they have a natural anticeptic in their spit.

My youngest cat, Snickers, has developed a bond with my roomie’s cat–a bond which has now evolved into grooming each other’s…um, well…the place that cats always choose to groom when you have company. (And I don’t mean “the middle of the living room floor”, either!) So when you mention the whole “where has that tongue been” question–at my house we can answer it, and it ain’t pretty!!!

Do they make Listerine for cats, I wonder?

Sylvester likes to lick my nose and I have to be careful because he will lick it till it is raw. My first cat, Whiskers use to like to bathe my face. I called it “kitty Loofa” and my skin was so soft after she licked my face. She would even go down my neck. I really liked it as it felt like a real “bonding” with her. RIP Whiskers.

Looks like clear weather all the way across to Arkansas which is good because I have to drive to Arkansas today and tomorrow. My son is having a very difficult time after his surgery and his girlfriend has to get back to work. They need the money very badly and she can’t afford to loose her job, so I’m going to help out and gladly take care of him. And just think I had two tickets next Saturday to see Eric Clapton in Vegas, oh well, Clapton isn’t near as important as my son. I gave my tickets to my daughter and her boyfriend making them promise to give me all the details. Wish me well you have all become my support group, although I more than likely won’t be here to read your comments I will know they are there. Look what you did for me when he had his surgery. My BBC, Black Boy Charley, the college kit, sleeps with me at night. However, he is terrible to sleep with. He constantly tries to muzzle under my chin and on my neck. His claws don’t quite recede all the way so I get pricked with them during his ritual. I have been tolerant of his ritual but I am sore in the morning and wake up several times as we are trying to readjust when I move in the bed. He is getting a little better about his ritual and seems to be less needy than he was a few weeks ago. Have a great day TDKers! I love black cats, always have……..

Comment by Kate the Grate
2007-03-05 17:22:16

My Desdemona does this as well, and though she does let me clip her claws sometimes, most of the time I just have to slip my hand in and cover her paws while she is nuzzling. We play a little game in which she slips her paws out from under my hand and then I re-cover her paws, and this goes on for a while until finally she just decides to lick my hand.

I came up with this because I was going to work covered in cat “hickies” from her claws. My kits are so incredibly spoiled that I just tolerate their oddities, even though I have to get up in the middle of the night and sleep on my couch because I cannot bear to disturb them in my bed. Oh well-

Comment by Huddy's Mama

Bob’s a tabby - he’s white, grey and a little brown with a pink nose (I’m a sucker for those!) and his little paw pads are pink and brown.
I thought I would get a female kitty, and had already bought a little pink collar and pink bed in anticipation. When I met Bob, I forgot all about that, so now he’s wearing a pink collar and sleeping in a pink bed. Hope he doesn’t have an identity crisis…….

On a practical note, get him used to some preventive medical care now, that you can perform. For instance, start clipping his claws now, so he won’t fight you (hopefully) when he gets older. Most importantly, start his dental care now, with the brushing and stuff, so that he will let you do it when he is older. Tooth cleaning at the vet’s is expensive and sometimes dangerous for the kitty if they have to put him out to do it.

Otherwise, as everyone says, enjoy him!!!!

Thanks, Kate. I did get him a little toothbrush and tomorrow when we visit the vet (shhh, don’t tell Bob) I’ll see about purchasing one of those things to clip his claws with. I bought kitty shampoo, as well. Wonder how that’ll go? Bob seems to like rolling around in his litter box, so I figured getting him ued to a bath every now and then would be a good idea.

Don’t know about anyone else, but I don’t use pet nail clippers (they scare me more than anything) I use people nail clippers, the big ones for toe nails, with the straight edge. I think they work the best and I can better judge what I’m clipping. Just use what you’re most comfortable with….
