Buttercup

Location: St.John’s, Newfoundland, Canada

ButtercupButtercup loves the snow and playing outside even at only three months old. She’s a bit annoyed with her new collar because it has a bell on it, and she never knows where the sound is coming from.

An early pounce story for the Princess Buttercup and all my TDK family!

Where Dogs & Cats Come From?

Adam and Eve said, “Lord, when we were in the garden, you walked with us every day. Now we do not see you any more. We are lonesome here, and it is difficult for us to remember how much you love us.”

And God said, “No problem! I will create a companion for you that will be with you and who will be a reflection of my love for you, so that you will love me even when you cannot see me. Regardless of how selfish or childish or unlovable you may be, this new companion will accept you as you are and will love you as I do, in spite of yourselves.”

And God created a new animal to be a companion for Adam and Eve.
And it was a good animal.
And God was pleased.
And the new animal was pleased to be with Adam and Eve and he wagged his tail.

And Adam said, “Lord, I have already named all the animals in the Kingdom and I cannot think of a name for this new animal.”

And God said, “No problem. Because I have created this new animal to be a reflection of my love for you, his name will be a reflection of my own name, and you will call him
DOG.”

And Dog lived with Adam and Eve and was a companion to them and loved them.
And they were comforted.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was content and wagged his tail.

After a while, it came to pass that an angel came to the Lord and said, “Lord, Adam and Eve have become filled with pride. They strut and preenlike peacocks and they believe they are worthy of adoration. Dog has indeed taught them that they are loved, but perhaps too well.”

And God said, “No problem! I will create for them a companion who will be with them and who will see them as they are. The companion will remind them of their limitations, so they will know that they are not always worthy of adoration.”

And God created CAT to be a companion to Adam and Eve.
And Cat would not obey them. And when Adam and Eve gazed into Cat’s eyes, they were reminded that they were not the supreme beings.
And Adam and Eve learned humility.
And they were greatly improved.
And God was pleased.
And Dog was happy.

And Cat didn’t give a darn one way or the other.

Wow, a Buttercup in the snow. I never knew a kitty would like to play in the snow. I went thru the collar and bell deal with Petey he had never worn either in his eleven years. I bought the break away type and he got used to it in a few minutes. I bought him a silver woven metalic one with silver sequins I know it isn’t too manly but he looks so cute.

Bob’s not liking his little pink collar and bell either - got mad when I had a tag made up and hung that on him too. I love Buttercup - she looks like Bob!
I had an indoor/outdoor kitty growing up in Denmark. She hated the snow. She didn’t have a litterbox and always went outside. When there was snow on the ground outside, we’d go clear a little path for her, so she could go out and do her business.

Bob doesn’t like treats either. I tried giving him one a few times, and he spit it out. Yesterday I just threw it in withhis kitty food - he ate everything but the treat.
He doesn’t seem interested in catnip, either. Do the grow to like it? I sprayed the spray on his scratch post - he doesn’t care and scratches the carpet instead! Bad boy - by the way, when he misbehaves, his name is Robert!

Comment by Kate the Grate
2007-03-08 17:57:36

Hi Great Dane! I think Bob is just too young to respond to treats and catnip. Usually they don’t respond until they are closer to adulthood. My kittens really liked milky things - I’d make them little cheese balls out of Velveeta, and give them soy milk with a little bit of egg in it.

Now of course, they love their catnip!! In fact, just as they understand the word “treat”, they also understand the word “catnip”. When I ask them, “Do you want some catnip”? they all run into the kitchen, from wherever they are, and converge upon me. I specifically put out the catnip on their scratching posts and cat trees, so they associate that with the catnip. They LOVE it!!

I had a ton of scratching posts in the house when the kittens were little, but they preferred one curtain that I had up in the dining room. They would jump on it and swing from one side of the window to the next. My curtain was destroyed but I got such a kick out of watching these tiny bundles of fur swinging back and forth. They would line up like kids at the slide on a playground.

Oh the things I do for them!

When Gracie was a baby her favorite treat was the squeesy cheese from a can. The vet used to run a line of it on the table for Gracie to eat while she got her shots and exams. For a long time, That and catsip were the only treats she liked and then one day she wanted nothing to do with them and wanted crunchy treats.

Hi Kate,
thanks for your input. I’ll start the treats later and give my boss the treats I have now for his cats. Bob seems to like to try to climb the shower curtain - maybe he’s trying to catch the big fishie on it?

She also has a tape of my sister, who was 2 years old at the time, singing “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star–although she could not quite get the words right–her verson was “Twinkle, twinkle little star, how I wonder how you been.” haha!

Did you submit that one, Huddy’s Mama? Very funny!

In high school, one of my sister’s girlfriends was singing along to The Police’s, “Don’t Stand So Close To Me”. (I had just bought Zenyatta Mondatta with my baby-sitting money and drove my mother insane with my blaring music!) But, she was singing along with her misheard lyrics which were, “Postman so close to me.” HAHA! We teased her about that for years!

It’s the name of the community where I live. I’ve told the story before, but since I’ve already been busted once today for re-runs, it won’t hurt to do it again. ;-)

Our tiny hamlet was named the first night the town founder and his family spent the night here, by the creek just down the street from where my house is now. The founder’s young son was surprised by the sight of a bobcat on the other side of the creek. The bobcat was equally startled to see the boy, because the boy exclaimed to his parents (in their native German): “Look at that cat spring!” Hence the name of our community (it’s too small to even be called a town!)

I have spent the past 35 years looking for that silly song. Thanks to youtube I found it yesterday. And it seems to be about a baby bird whose mom gets eaten by a cat (or so the laugh-in style pix indicate). Does anyone remember this song? No one outside of Chicago ever seems to have heard of it!
