Sethi
Location: Lac-Beauport, Quebec, Canada
This is Sethi at about eight weeks. We got him from a local shelter. Actually, at first, we were told we had gotten a little girl, but we thought she was quite tough standing up to her new brother and sister. Eventually, even with that much fluffy fur, we found out his true identity!
The little rascal scared us a couple of months later. He likes to chew on plastic bags, strings and stuff, so we have to constantly make sure nothing harmful is accessible to him, but he managed to swallow the end of a pajama cord with a knot in it. He ended up at the hospital for three days. We were so afraid we’d lose him, but he recovered well.
He is now 2 1/2 years old.

What a cute little ball of fluff! Hey,I’m the first commenter. weeeee
my friend go two kittens, sugar and spice how funny… they were BOTH boys opps!
Weeeeee im secont
I’m first! I am so excited!
More like your second on the post! Yeah I’m third! So CUTE he looks like my kitty that died. Have a nice day everyone.
He is so cute! yes, kittens get into everything and it is a full time job to keep them safe.
Yep, that’s why when I adopted, I went for adult kitties. They’re smart enough to stay out of serious trouble. The older one is sitting on me now purring his heart out. He knows he has a furever home. Why does everyone want kittens? Sure they’re baby-cute, but they grow out of it and become cat-cute in a year. My cats are cat-cute now and will be the same for years to come.
Oh, my 4 year old kitty (brought her home 4 years ago tomorrow!) isn’t smart enough to stay out of trouble! She enjoys eating string, rubber bands, etc. We have to make very sure to not leave anything that she finds tempting out in the open. She still thinks she’s a kitten, apparently!
Same here. As I’ve said on earlier posts, my Sammy will eat anything that’s bad for him. I’m always worried about what he’ll get into next. Plastic grocery bags are a big no no in our house!! So frustrating, isn’t it? But they’re our babies and we love them dearly, don’t we?
Same here! 5 year old Sydney will eat plastic, rubber bands you name it! If they are healthy and happy they are kitten like all their lives and it is worth every moment!
Sethi is a beautiful boy, give him a kiss from us
Jason, it is good that many people believe as you do and rescue the older cats that are often overlooked at the shelters. It is really hard though for others to resist the lure of a sweet baby kitty. I know your purring kitty(s) appreciates the warm loving home you are sharing.
I won’t say I wasn’t tempted, but Sarge looked a lot like a cat I had while growing up (Opus). His description said he was abandoned about 6 months earlier and loved to “hang out with the guys”. How could I resist? No kitten could stand up against that. All Sarge needs is a bib like Santa and I’ll believe in feline reincarnation. RIP Opus, I like to think helped me find Sarge.
Hey Jason…I like the furever spelling, that’s cool!
u know, i’m allergic to cats, when i can get one i want a kitten because, i can train her and she’ll get use to me instead of getting a grown up cat and having it bite me all the time
not that i have any thing wrong with grownup kittys,
please write you’re response
I guess I’m spoiled…I got my 13 y/o kitty as a 6 w/o fluffball, and she has never tried to swallow string, etc. She loves to play w/rubber bands, but never tried to eat them.
She’s never been much of a furniture scratcher either, she prefers carpet laying flat on the floor. I keep a few samples scattered around the house for her.
So beautiful and floofy!!
And he is such a beauty! I think everyone here has a ribbon, rubberband, or string chewer story to relate. Babyproof the house and enjoy the antics.
Happy St Pat’s Day everyone!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sharon in Austell! I hope you had a purrfect one!
Thank you, Renee, but it was the hubby who just got older. I’m April 6th and still waiting. He’s still older!
Ok Ok, I was second, always the bride maid, never the bride…..Look at that beautiful black fuzzy butt! Who says black cats are unlucky? I think to have one is very lucky.
Top of the morn, getting ready for our big St. Patty’s day parade, it is actually very small but we participate every year.
What an adorable fuzzball! Many snuggles to this cute guy. Glad he recovered so well from his ordeal :).
Black beauty fuzz! I bet he is nice and soft. TGIF!!! It is my last day at my temp job and I am going to do as little as possible here. I would love to be able to stick my tongue out at the SVP as he asks for something. You want what, who gives a rats patoutie! Onward and upward! Hehehe… No coffee and I am still feisty! Imagine me with a starbucks mocha! Yippppeeeee!
Click buzz whirl last-day-girl! Tell us how it went at the end of the day. }:-}
Good for you Karin - enjoy your time off, you’ll find something new, soon! As for sticking out your tongue at the SVP, I say go for it!!! Yeah! Go get that coffee, too!!
As tempting as it might be to stick your tongue out or tell them “Take this job and shove it” you never know when you might meet up with them again. A friend had a terror of a boss and about four years later that boss got a job working under her old subordinate. Keep your words sweet you never know when you might have to eat them.
You are right about that Susan. As much as I would love to do it, Great Dane, it would only do me a disservice since I may want to use the company as a reference or may want to try to obtain a permanent job there in a different dept. I could only go and stick my tongue out at the SVP if I had won millions on the lottery. Anyways, his kharma will set him right…for all the “little people” he has stepped on or treated badly, his bad kharma will come back to him at another time.
Congratulations on making it through, Karin! Those are such tough places to be in, but you’re strong. And, you can still visualize all the nasty things you’d say and do to the SVP even if you don’t really do them.
Oh, and by the way, if you do head to Starbucks I’ll take a White Mocha… Grande.
My second post is lost in cyberspace somewhere, I thought I was the first post but alas, always the bride maid and never the bride. I am getting my backpack, in goes Sethi, I’ll return him in a little while!
What a cutie! Sunshine enjoyes extra large paperclips. She will fetch one as long, or longer, than I enjoy throwing it for her.
Haaaaaaaahhhhh! He looks just like my Merlin who went over the rainbow bridge 2 years ago.
I love the ear tufts and the furry coat. I would put him in my backpack, but I have a 10-years young girl just like him !!!
Oooooh, what a soft little ball of black lovey fluff! Can I be next in line with my backpack please?
I left little Bob home today, so I’d like Sethi in my backpack for a little while, too….
How is Bob recovering from his shot, Great Dane? I trust he will be back to his fun, purring self today. What color is Bob and how did you come up with his name? Hope you get some pictures of him and maybe get a catster page for him. We would all love to see your “Bob”.
Hi Karin,
I’m taking lots of pictures of Bob, but I don’t have a digital camera. I’ll see what I can do about pictures.
Bob woke up late last night and more than made up for his lack of energy earlier! The vet told me he’d be tired for 2-3 days - yeah, right! He doesn’t know Bob!
Bob is a tabby and he’s white and brown/grey/black. His nose is pink with black corners out on the sides - so cute!
I wasn’t sure how the name Bob popped into my brain, but then I remembered the George Clooney movie “one Fine Day” where his daughter meets this little kitten and takes it home and calls him Bob. Maybe that was in the back of my mind. Cute movie, and of course I just LOVE george Clooney. (Especially in that movie, running around with a little kitten).
go to walgreens they have a digital camera on a keychain for $19.99 that takes great pics.,it’s what i took all my pix of my babies on catster,it can take up to 70 pix before you have to load them to the computer to save them and you will always have it when they do something cute or funny.BTW this boy is precious, what a face.
When you have your film developed, get the CD. Then you will have all your pictures in digital form
oh, cool, great idea!
He’s a cutie but I would also love to see what he looks like now! My Trjegul will be turning 2 soon. They grow up to be such love bugs. I don’t know if all males are like that but he is the most affection cat I’ve ever had. (all females before him.)
Is it legal to be that cute?! So glad he recovered from the pajama cord incident!
Oooh…he looks soft!!! Not exactly snorgleable—he looks too fierce to snorgle. He looks more “gorgeous” and “regal” than “cute” and “cuddly”… However, I somehow doubt he was ALWAYS as serious as he looks in this pic!!! (I’ve never met a serious kitten.)
Gladys, you’ve got it right! He’s so beautiful it hurts! He’s named after Ramses II’s father, Pharaoh Sethi, and he too likes distant adoration ;o) We already had Isis, an 8 year old female tabby, so we wanted to follow the Egyptian trend. The only exception is Debussy, our MASSIVE 16-pound (all meat, no fat) monster. He looks like a grizzly.
When he took Sethi home from his foster family, he was purring and meowing at the same time, it was so cute!
He still purrs like crazy, and likes to get scratched under the chin, but he hates to get snorgled. But he’s not fierce at all. He’s… very laid back and contemplative, almost serious. He just sits there and gives us this deep, calm, intelligent stare. We can almost hear him think, “Hmmm. Those humans are really weird.” But he does get the evening crazies, especially when I play with the laser pointer.
And six months after we got him, we adopted another fluff ball, Satiah (Egyptian royal spouse, to keep in the trend). She was so delicate and shy, and Isis and Debussy kept being mean to her. Sethi, while not actually breaking the fights, was often standing between them, like he wanted to calm things down. It was so sweet.
Thanks for the info on this little baby! He’s just 500% adorable! And I love the Egyptian theme with the names. My sister plans to name her next female cat Bastet.
Sounds like you have a wonderful clan!
Sethi, you are a very handsome, regal-looking fellow. I bet you need to be combed every day! Lots of hugs and kisses to you!
Huddy’s Mama, are you here today? We missed you yesterday.
Maybe she’s upset about people putting all the kittens in their backpacks before she gets to them????
Check out this photo–Developers have turned a house into an island in China after the owner refused to move out.

That is one stubborn man. How on earth does he go anywhere?
Helicopter? I expected to see a moat around the “island”. But a trench? I hope he sticks to his guns.
I’m not sure I would call it a house? a shack? a hovel?
He is so sweet. I’m glad he got better after swallowing the PJ cord. I love fluffy kitties! I can’t wait till I have my own house and I can have my own kitty again! I may get one just like him. He’s so beautiful!
Love Sethi! Just a big ball of black fluff, ear fuzz and purrs!

Thanks, Dee, that’s Bob choice of food!
Thank you, Dee. I have most of a bag of Eukanuba tha Kelsie refused to eat that I have been wondering how to make use of. To the animal control office it goes!
Thanks, Dee….that’s what my fuzzies eat!
What a cute little fluffy ball of fur-I love the furry tail! He sounds like a real handful! You do need to babyproof because you never know what they’ll get into next. My Trixie found some thread on the floor and she had swallowed some of it when my son noticed it. We were able to pull it out so she saved having to go to the vet.
Looks like my little Misto brat when she was just a handfull. Very cute
He’s a fuzzy ball of cute! Look at those fuzzy ears..
♣ HAPPY SAINT PATTY’S DAY EVERONE! ♣
Beautiful little fuzzbutt! He reminds me of my little Baby when she was a kitten!
Sethi is a great name for him! Named after and Egyptian god, I believe.
How devine!
What a darling little fuzzball and your problem in figuring out whether he was a male or female reminded me of what happened when one of my cats was a baby. She was also quite fluffy and she happened to have two little black spots just where you would look if you were trying to determine what sex she was. So, because of those two spots, I thought she was a boy…if you get my drift. Well, when I brought her to the vet he took a look at her face and said she was a girl. My first reaction was to ask him whether he wasn’t looking at the wrong end, but this guy had no sense of humor. But, what actually made him assume it was probably a female was because, although she’s a brown tabby, she has a patch of orange fur on top of her head, making her three different colors and those cats are just about always girls. I have to admit, though, that I felt a bit dumb mistaking those two black spots of fur for something entirely different.
Well, I just have to contribute my “sexing the kitten” story: I had rescued three kittens at my friend’s request. She told me she was sure they were boys as two of them were orange tabbies (she’s a dog person, and I was a “new” cat person, so we didn’t really know what was what). So, immediately after I picked them up I took them to the vet to see what types of medicines I might need and if they were okay, etc.
The female vet came into the room, and after we oohhed and aahhed for a while she began to examine them. I told her that we thought the orange ones were boys, so she started to feel around in the nether regions of the kitties.
She then stated, “Oh, these might be too small to get a good feel”, to which I responded, “Oh, those are the words that every man dreads hearing!” The vet and I just started cracking up; the rather large male vet assistant did not think it was funny.
The orange tabbies were girls, they were fine, and I got a really good story out of it–
LOL…okay reminds me of when my friend, Deb, was having a party and playing cards with her husband and her brother and his wife. Deb had a huge yellow lab who was sitting by the card table and rather noisily licking his “nether regions.” Her brother looks down at the dog and said, “gee, I wish I could do that.” Without missing a beat, Deb said, “you’d better pet him first…”
Oh God those were funny Kate and CatRancher!
Gosh I needed that laugh.
Happy St Patty’s Day everyone!
haha!
Sweet article…
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! It’s a day of donning green, partying with your Irish or pseudo-Irish friends, and feeling lucky. If you’re fortunate enough to share your home with a cat this St. Patty’s Day, perhaps you will take a few moments to reflect on the reasons you are lucky to have a kitty sidekick.
Listed below are a few reasons I feel lucky to have a wonderful, feline family member.
1. I can count on a smile every morning when she yells at me with a great big “MEOW” the second I get out of bed. This will continue until someone fills her food bowl and acknowledges her royal presence.
2. There isn’t much more relaxing then her sitting in my lap, purring contently.
3. Who needs to pay for a massage at the spa when you have a cat making therapeutic “biscuits” on your back.
4. On those lazy days when I am feeling guilty for doing nothing around the house, I can take one look at my cat catching her 17th hour of sleep that day and feel much better about myself.
5. On days when I am way too busy and stressed, my cat’s laid-back nature reminds me to take a moment to relax.
6. Now and then she leaves me sweet gifts lying around, her whiskers. They warm my heart, and I collect them in a keepsake box.
7. Even before the dogs greet me when I return home, my kitty greets me, peering out the window as I enter the driveway.
8. Much easier than walking the dogs, I can exercise my cat by simply shining a laser pointer around the room.
9. Being a cat, she is mysterious and fascinating. She keeps me wondering what goes on inside that brain of hers.
10. While my dogs love me unconditionally, my cat humbles me by making me work for her affection. I enjoy a good challenge!
Good article Dee. I believe that cats do come into our lives to teach us something and one of them is to not take life so seriously. When I am stressing and I am at home, Sylvester is my stress buster. Nothing better than a purring soft kitty to make it all better.
Wow….what an odd set of coincidences. My cat, Salem, looked EXACTLY like Sethi when he was a kitten. He was also “mis-identified” gender-wise, and also had an emergency at 2 years old that nearly killed him and required hospitalization and surgery (a urinary blockage). He survived and is a happy, healthy, funny, sweet-natured 8-year old now, and the love of my life. Lastly, I am also from Canada (but now live in the States). I hope the coincidences will continue, and you will have as much happiness with Sethi as I’ve had with Salem!!!
Don’t read this article if you believe it will disturb you–another sick freak in the Tampa Bay area. They showed a photo of the dog on the local news last night–such a beautiful dog–very infuriating!!
http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/newswire/story/authorities-looking-for-person-who-shot-dog/
Yeah, we had a guy who started with shooting dogs, then graduated to people!
You know, if I were to be someday gifted with power and influence in this world, the first thing I would do is ensure that there are harsher penalties for people who hurt animals. After all, anyone who is willing to inflict pain and suffering on an animal is just as able to hurt people. We should put them away when it starts!!!
Huzzah!
I think there are enough of us here on TDK to form an angry mob, huh?
Much as I hate to admit how thin my veneer of civilazation is, when I read things like this I could revert to “mob rule” mentality in a heartbeat!
Love the fluff! Sethi must be very happy that he got a nice forever home. Many kisses to him.
Please fill out this HSUS petition–**Florida’s gopher tortoises are dying at the hands of developers. Even though the gopher tortoise is a “threatened” species, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) still grants permits that allow developers to bulldoze gopher tortoise habitat, crushing tortoises to death or burying them alive. An estimated 80,000 gopher tortoises have been buried alive since 1991.**
https://community.hsus.org/campaign/FL_2007_tortoises
I started to do so Dee, but the petition specifies Florida residents. Being from CA, that is a problem….
Joan–well that stinks–I don’t see that stated on the petition–it must have happened as you were keying in Ca, I suppose? Sorry about that–but thanks so much for letting me know!
**ASPCA SUCCESS STORY OF THE WEEK: WHAT’S IN A NAME?**
When Sonja Steele and her husband laid eyes on Rebel at Washington’s Spokane County Humane Society, the chow/husky mix seemed scared and confused. “She wasn’t barking or jumping like the other dogs in the shelter,” Sonja explains. “She was lying against the kennel and could barely make eye contact with us.”
Rebel’s rap sheet stated that she ran wild, barked and chased cars and deer, didn’t like kids and positively hated cats. But when the Steeles took her out for a walk, the canine behaved perfectly. “She walked right beside me, was very attentive to the kids and enjoyed sniffing the air,” Sonja says. “There were other dogs outside, but she did not pay any attention to them.”
The Steeles brought Rebel home that day and immediately renamed her. “We wanted to come up with something that matched her beauty,” Sonja explains. “We could tell that she wasn’t sure what her place in the world was, and we wanted her to be proud of the wonderful dog she is. We decided on Izabel. The name stands out, and that is what we wanted for her.”
It has been 3 1/2 years since the Steeles brought Izabel home. While they thought she would prefer the outdoors, Izabel has decided that she would rather stay indoors with the cats, whom she loves. She has a special chair in the front window where she waits for the Steeles to come home each day. “She gives us one bark when we walk through the door as if to say, ‘Hello, I missed you,’” Sonja says. “And she loves to do tricks, especially if it means getting a treat. She has really come out of her shell. We can’t imagine having any other dog in our life! She is our adorable Izabel!”
I had a white cat that was misidentified at birth. His name was Frank. He had the most beautiful blue eyes. Problem was he was a she. Even the vet got it wrong. So hence he became Frankie,my little white kitty. When I mean mine she would have absolutely nothing to do with my ex-wife. Daddy’s little girl. I guess cats do know the truth about how people really are. She sure did.
Sethi has that look that my kittens used to get just before falling over asleep. Speaking of sleep it’s cold, rainy, & just plain yucky out so I think I hear my bed calling me.
Happy TGIF folks.
Chester
Now Chester definitely has his priorities straight! I would be in bed too if I had a choice but as the saying says…”I owe, I owe, so off to work I go” (sung to the snow white and the seven drwarfs song).
It is a nice 75 degrees here today with blue skies and a slight breeze. Very nice and ready for the weekend to go to the beach.
Happy TGIF and St Patrick’s Day to you, Chester!
Here in Atlanta it has become sunny and beautiful. I’ve got an earplug hidden away listening to Celtic music on 365dotcom and the pubs are beckoning us for a weekend or revelry! Sleep and be warm, Chester. The leprechauns will guard your slumber. Don’t let the kits get them, though…
Check out this beautiful limited-edition artist-designed T-shirt—printmaker David Berube selected the ASPCA to receive a percentage of the proceeds from the shirt he designed, which features an elephant. “The image is loosely based on ornately detailed representations of the zoomorphic deity Ganesha,” says Berube. “I chose the ASPCA for the very simple fact that I love animals, and I wanted to help an organization that would use the donation to help the creatures who can’t always help themselves.”

He is adorable, my girl Stinky likes to steal my jewelry out of my jewelry box and she’s seven. I caught her with a diamond stud in her mouth one day. Now the box is kept closed tight.
My jewelry box is on my dresser in front of the mirror and my Trixie likes to sit on the box and admire herself in the mirror! She actually stares at herself, turning her head from side to side.
Well, that just verifies my suspicions. My Desdemona always appears to be paying especially close attention to me when I am telling her that she is SO beautiful, she is the most beautiful cat that ever was, how can she be so beautiful? I am SURE that she understands me, and the behavior of your Trixie (which would just be unbearably cute if I actually saw it) leads me to believe that vanity is a trait shared among all us felines…ooops, I meant females.
Hi Kate, Your Desdemona most certainly understands when you praise her on her beauty. All cats know they are beautiful but I think they like confirmation from us. I know I tell Trixie all the time how beautiful, elegant and graceful she is and she sure does believe it!
Not only is my jewelry box closed, I have a glass kitten paperweight on it to keep out the 12 plus pound kitten!
How funny! My Aunt’s cat would steal any jewelry left out, but she would then leave her treasures in her food bowl. When my mother visited, she didn’t know about this, and ended up finding both of her earrings in the cat’s dish. My Bosley used to open up the drawer above my vanity and steal my jewelry. I was beginning to think I was losing my mind (I left the drawer open again?) when one day he walked through the living room with a necklace hanging from his mouth. He also stole things from around the house–everything ended up under the couch. When I got a new one, there were at least 5 jars of Carmex, bottles of nail polish, etc. under it. Thank goodness he grew out of that phase!
What a beauty.
Did those of you who gave me their email address get the coupon for free cheese? I know that CatRancher and Chester received theirs—anyone else??
Hi Dee, Yes, I did receive the coupon. Thank you so much!
got the e.mail, have no printer. damn.
T
Got it Dee, but my stores here won’t accept internet coupons, so I gave them my address to mail me one. Had bad weather here yesterday and left work early. Sorry I didn’t thank you for it earlier. So sorry. Thanks again for all the help with the freebies.

**Can Cinnamon Lower Blood Sugar?**
How-what-why on how cinnamon can help lower blood sugar.
By Kristin Kane, Prevention magazine
What It Is
Cinnamomum cassia is the dried bark of evergreen trees cultivated throughout Asia, though we know it best as the powder that flavors apple pie and other goodies.
What Traditional Medicine Says
As early as 2700 BC, Chinese herbalists treated diarrhea and kidney disorders with cinnamon. Later, Greek healers and practitioners of Indian Ayurvedic medicine valued it as a remedy for digestive problems.
What We Know
Cinnamon may help lower cholesterol and triglycerides. Pakistani researchers gave 60 type 2 diabetics with borderline-high lipid levels a daily placebo pill or one with 1 to 6 g of cinnamon. After 40 days, those in the cinnamon group saw their cholesterol levels fall by at least 13% and their triglyceride levels by at least 23%. The placebo had no effect.
What New Research Shows
Cinnamon can help rein in blood sugar. German researchers collected blood from 65 adults with type 2 diabetes who then took a capsule containing the equivalent of 1 g of cinnamon powder or a placebo three times a day for 4 months. By the end, cinnamon reduced blood sugar by about 10%; the placebo users improved by only 4%. Compounds in cinnamon may activate enzymes that stimulate insulin receptors.
What To Take
The extract used in the study is sold only in Europe, but Envita Labs’s CinnaBeticII is similar. (Stick with the extract, which is water soluble; large amounts of the actual spice can be dangerous.)
Cost: $25 for 60 capsules, available at vitamin retailers.
Dose: Follow label instructions.
