Romy & Fiona

Location: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada

Romy & FionaThe one on the left is Romy, and the other is Fiona, about six weeks old. They are now six months old, only a little bit bigger, and FULL of energy! They love to spy on our neighbours out the window, play in the bathtub (yes, with water in it!), and run about.

BTW TDKers!
I picked up the kitten I mentioned on Friday. She is very sweet. She is a calico, with white boots and a 1/2 manx tail. By half manx I mean it goes up 1/2 way like a normal tail, the it hits a kink, and little bones on the very end. She has long hair so it just looks like she lost the end of her tail by some tragedy, but there are those little bones at the end that she acutally has muscle control over so I don’t think thats the case.
We are considering the names : bug-a boo (boo for short) or Bobbie. The guy who found her was caling her Mrs. Nubbins, but she is too silly to be a Mrs. :-)
Have not taken her to the vet yet, spent too much on Dixie doodle last week. I hope she is not pregnant, but I don’t want to have it terminated if she is. I will find homes (or have a house full! :-D)

MerD, I’m so glad to hear you did rescue the kitten. I know she can’t replace Dixie, but I think the dream was Dixie’s message to you. Too much of a coincidence to be a coincidence. Let us know when she is on your catster page so we can all see your newest baby.

Seriously, congrats on your new cat. You’re both lucky to have found each other.

Ok, your right, I am a Mrs. too. It is just that the title Mrs does not seem to fit. Ms mabey…. ;-)
ANyway, this poor baby had her claws cut down, look almost to the quick (she probably bled) . She does not like to have her feet touched (will allow this for a while so she learns to trust us before I go squishing her cute paws!). Poor thing was out, who know how long with out her claws, she would have been dead if any bad dogs or foxes had seen her. (she is fascinated with our 10 yr old yellow lab dog though) Could have been bad news. Currently, she seems to need to be taught how to sharpen her claws. (which is fun)
My big worry is that she is microchipped. (Any suggestions?) Not sure yet how I will deal with that, but I am very upset about the claw thing. I’m glad that they look like they will grow back, will just take some time.

MerD, I doubt very much that this baby is microchipped. Who ever had her didn’t take very good care, or (1) her claws wouldn’t have been mutilated and (2) she would not have been outside wandering the streets.

Consider her yours. You can say the TDKers said so. :P

I can hardly wait to see her photo on catster.

2007-03-18 21:28:27

I sure hope you are right! The Dumb Friends League here automatically microchipps all animals that go through their facility. I’m not sure about the other shelters. But I promise, she will be here in about 2 weeks! :-) I will try to get at least one photo of her up soon.

Hi MerD:

Congrats on your new baby! Take her to your vet - I bet that he or she might be willing to defer payment after you tell him or her what’s wrong. The vet will be able to scan her for microchips, and will be able to give you some help with the claws. At the least, he or she will look for signs of infection, and may be able to provide you with a topical anesthetic that will ease the poor thing’s tender toes. If you don’t think your vet will wait, you might be able to get some assistance at your local animal protective league. Good luck!!!!! :-)

2007-03-19 15:15:43

Animal control can check her for a microchip, for free. Her owner could be a different person than whoever clipped her claws too close to the quick. She may have gotten out of her house, then have been taken in by a different person, and gotten out again. How can anyone be so cruel as to clip all claws like that. If I clip one too close, that’s it. I stop, and the animal would have to ask me to continue. I’d be crying too hard to go on. We don’t clip anymore because we’ve run out of people who will do it.

Comment by Laura in Chi
2007-03-20 14:42:19

I just clip one toenail each day, real fast, before they get too ancy. That seems to work very well. That way they don’t go from long claws to short ones all at once. My half-grown girl tries to climg cat tree after vet clips and she almost falls off. Hate that.

She’s at the Rainbow Bridge.

These two babies are special. I know the tux cats really are funny. Fiona is more than likely teaching Romy the ways of a tux. A handful for sure. I would love to see how kittens play in a tub of water. Do they have a rubber duckie?

Comment by Andi

It usually involves a wet bathroom, wet pawprints through the house, wet mommy, wet kitties, and…well. Sometimes it can just be a toy mouse.

According to wikipedia, “Kamloops” is the anglicized version of the Shuswap word “Tk’emlups”, meaning ‘meeting of the waters’. Shuswap is still actively spoken in the area by members of the Kamloops Indian Band.

Yes, the pure-black kitten looks a bit sad and forlorn somehow, but that is just one of their adorability tricks.
