Don’t you know about the infamous “Boris Karloff”?? He was an actor, though not just any actor. He was a master of his trade. He was most famous for being a vampire, but the make up he did was so ahead of his time. Taking into consideration all the special effects available today.

Mr. Karloff was most famous for his role as the monster in Frankenstein. He went on to many other memorable character parts, including on stage as Captain Hook in Peter Pan. He was said to be a kind and gentle man.

Adorable kitten! Cheers to the “spooky fan” parent! ;)

Tansey came up on my pillow and purred me back to sleep around 3:30. Now I know why, she was trying to make up for the humungous hairball-contained-in-cat-food that she had barfed up for us in the dining room. She also was a lot more lively today and wanted to play at 5am.

I know when my big boy, Bosley, jumps on the bed–he ain’t too agile! :) The only problem is that he will walk on me to get to my head, and if I ignore him he bites my forehead right at the hairline. When I open my eyes, he does one of his ’silent meows’ and I just have to laugh! Any human can wake me up (for any reason) and it really ticks me off. My babies wake me? It’s so danged cute!

Comment by Alice in Florida
2007-03-23 16:39:42

Yes, the silent meow is the a most tricky thing they do, it looks like they are so weak from hunger or lack of affection or catnip they can hardly get the jaws open. My Mike makes it a specialty - the head lowers, the eyes peek up a little, then the jaw quivers open and NO MEOW - or just a little squeak - gets me every time. Boris looks baffled, but cute and sweet, glad he has a sister for company.

We call Linus and his sister Lucy “the mewps” because that was the tiny sound they made as kittens. They still don’t have much of a meow, even though they are nearly a year and a half old.

Comment by FondaHonda in Texas

Every time he does his ’silent meow’ his eyes close too. Sort of like when I’m using my eyelash curler and my mouth automatically opens!

Since my Dixie doodle passed, Duchess has decided she will now be my alarm clock. As soon as my alarm goes off, she meows, hops on the bed walks across me, sits on my head PURRING and Biting and digging at the covers. As soon as she thinks I’m roused (try to snuggle with her) she jumps off the bed and sits just out of reach, purring contentedly with her job! She is a silly thing… :-D

Shaddo sends Jiggs in to wake me for breakfast. Not a big deal during the week, but weekends and days off can be a challenge. I took my b-day off yesterday and they wanted food at 6:45 - too early for a day off, plus Shaddo needs his meds between 7-7:30 and I didn’t feel like having to stay awake to do that. They waited till 7:30. They make me crazy sometimes - someone puked during the night and I can’t find it - but I still love them!

**Rat Poison Cited In Pet Food Recall**
Wheat From China Contaminated, Lab Says

POSTED: 9:52 am CDT March 23, 2007

A spokeswoman for the New York state Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday that rodent poison was found in tainted pet food that killed several animals and sparked a nationwide recall.

It is believed that the chemical aminopterin was on wheat imported from China, ABC News reported.

Various online medical sources indicate that aminopterin is also used in trials to treat leukemia.

Comment by Caddycat in NJ
2007-03-23 15:45:04

I was in China for a month last March. They are very new at the business of capitalism, and many will do whatever necessary to earn a profit without taking into account the harm some of their tactics cause. There are little to no governmental controls on their goods. The producer or storer of the wheat probably added the rat poison to the grain to dispose of the nearby rats….. and sold it. Wonder if they even thought about who was going to consume it. This is pretty horrible!

Comment by Caddycat in NJ

Something else to be wary about are drugs. Profiteers in China manufacture fake drugs. In one case about 2 years ago they actually used yellow paint used for painting lines in the roads. They copy the packaging very accurately and sell the “drug” on the black market. It has been found at unsuspecting pharmacies who are looking for a bargain. These drugs were tested by the FDA because they were not providing the treatment they were designed for to some of the most critically ill people, like cancer patients.

Wicked!

ALBANY, N.Y. - Rat poison has been found in pet food blamed for the deaths of several animals around the United States, a spokeswoman for the State Department of Agriculture and Markets said Friday.

Joke for today:

The Lawyer’s Funeral
A man reluctantly attends his lawyer’s funeral expecting to be one of the only people there, and is surprised to see a huge turnout for this creepy man. He turns to the people around him.

“Why are you all at this lawyer’s funeral?” he asks.

A man turns towards him and says, “We’re all clients.”

“And you ALL came to pay your respects?”

“No, we came to make sure he was really dead.”

Finally, a lawyer story with a happy ending. :)

>>
>> A Lawyer purchased a box of very rare and expensive cigars, then
>> insured them against, among other things, fire. Within a month, having
>> smoked his entire stockpile of these great cigars and without yet
>> having made even his first premium payment on the policy the lawyer
>> filed a claim against the insurance company.
>>
>> In his claim, the lawyer stated the cigars were lost “in a
>> series of

>> small fires.” The insurance company refused to pay, citing the
>> obvious reason, that the man had consumed the cigars in the normal
fashion.
>>
>> The lawyer sued.. and WON! (Stay with me. It is not the end of
>> it)
>>
>> Delivering the ruling, the judge agreed with the insurance
>> company that the claim was frivolous. The judge stated nevertheless,
>> that the lawyer held a policy from the company, which it had
>> warranted that the cigars were insurable and also guaranteed that it
>> would insure them against fire, without defining what is considered
>> to be unacceptable fire” and was obligated to pay the claim !
>>
>> Rather than endure lengthy and costly appeal process, the
>> insurance company accepted the ruling and paid $15,000 to the lawyer
>> for his loss of the cigars lost in the “fires”.
>>
>> Still not the end of it!
>>
>> NOW, FOR THE BEST PART..
>>
>> After the lawyer cashed the check, the insurance company had him
>> arrested on 24 counts of ARSON!!! With his own insurance claim and
>> testimony from the previous case being used against him, the lawyer
>> was convicted of intentionally burning his insured property and was
>> sentenced

>> to 24 months in jail and a $24,000 fine.
>>
>>

You know, everybody piles on us lawyers but when you get into any sort of difficulty and your first instinct is to sue, sue, sue, who do you look to? A lawyer, of course. Everyone loves to make lawyer jokes but when it comes time to put on the gloves and fight, you all look to us. Luckily, it is mandatory that we grow a thick skin along with passing the bar.

Give him hugs and BIG THANKS from me and your family at TDK. As the daughter of a military man I truly appreciate the sacrifies our men and women in the armed forces make for our freedom.
