Garfield

Location: Montreal-West, Québec, Canada

GarfieldThis is Garfield at ten weeks of age. I was asked to foster her mom, Brandy, and her litter of six kittens. We found homes for Brandy and three of the kits, but then - nothing. So Garfield, Stardust and Spot now live with me, along with their Manx pal, Amber and a big husky-shepherd cross, who comes from the same animal shelter. As you can see, Garfield has made it clear that she is a permanent “fixture”.

Joke for today:
Things Found Only In America

1. Only in America……can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

2. Only in America……are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

3. Only in America……do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

4. Only in America……do people order double cheese burgers, large fries, and a diet Coke.

5. Only in America……do banks leave both doors to the vault open and then chain the pens to the counters.

6. Only in America……do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

7. Only in America……do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won’t miss a call from someone we didn’t want to talk to in the first place.

8. Only in America……do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

9. Only in America……do we use the word “politics” to describe the process so well: “poli” in Latin meaning “many” and “tics” meaning “bloodsucking creatures.”

10. Only in America……do they have drive-up ATM machines with Braille lettering.

Well, I got a lot of coupons for items we use that were really good ones. Thanks to your suggestion to call the companies, which I did. I’ve told a few people at work about it. Li2ke $3 off, $2 off, etc. I did call for a free dog kit/cat kit, but haven’t heard anything, unless it was the 2 coupons I got. I ordered the Nutro free coupon, although after hearing about how they keep using cheaper and cheaper ingredients, don’t know if I want to use it now…… I worry about feeding my cats anything now. They get dry Iams. I had cans of the wet food, but it was from a year ago or so, so I guess was okay. I won’t give them the last can though.
When a cuatomer told me about the rat poison in the catfood, I said to the cashier next to me, that if I was home and on my “cat site” I would have found out right away!
I believe my old neighbor’s old 16 yr. old dog died from that bad dogfood. I was reading on the internet that someone lost their dog back in Oct. after eating Old Roy dogfood. Rocky, the neighbor dog, ate Old Roy in Dec. He died the Monday before Christmas. I was thinking of this the other day while riding home from work. Rocky was the old man’s only companion. I used to walk this dog and we went on really long walks in the woods, etc. Broke my heart to lose him.

How heartwarming!

**Lost Lab brothers meet at dog daycare **
Fri Mar 23, 7:59 PM ET

LA CROSSE, Wis. - They were called Wallace and Gromit, a couple of abandoned yellow Labrador retriever siblings who wound up at the Coulee Region Humane Society. The pups were 5 months old last June when they were adopted out, but to separate homes. Months later, Pat Kucera at Diggity Dog Daycare noticed two yellow Labs named Levi and Cooper would “play like crazy” every time they got the chance during visits to his facility.

“They love playing chase, ring around the picnic table and face wrestling on the couches,” Kucera said.

When he mentioned their behavior to their respective owners, Cyndy Lamb remembered the other pup she never forgot — the one that was with Cooper when she took him home from the humane society.

She asked Denice Mack, owner of Levi, about her dog’s past and found out she too adopted her dog last June.

“When she said he was 5 months old when she got him, my heart stopped,” Lamb said.

“I was so excited,” Mack said, “because when we adopted (Levi), we knew there was another yellow Lab out there, and we wanted to find him and get together with him.”

Mack and her husband Curt said they’re hoping to set up play dates outside the daycare for the two long-lost Labs.

“I’m definitely going to take them up on that,” Lamb said.

OMG!

**Housewife convicted of frying husband**

By STAN LEHMAN, Associated Press Writer
Fri Mar 23, 10:38 PM ET

SAO PAULO, Brazil - A Brazilian housewife was convicted and sentenced to 19 years in prison Friday for killing her husband, chopping his body into small pieces and frying it. Rosanita Nery dos Santos, 52, drugged her husband in his sleep, then stabbed him to death two years ago in Salvador, about 900 miles northeast of Sao Paulo, said police spokesman Idmar Bonfim.

She then hacked Jose Raimundo Soares dos Santos’ body into more than 100 pieces, which she boiled and fried before hiding in plastic bags beneath a staircase in her house, Bonfim said. He said police discovered the body parts after receiving an anonymous phone call.

Bonfim said the killing was either part of a black magic ritual or an attempt by the wife to collect life insurance worth about $34,000.

Citing testimony from the woman’s relatives, he said she may also have committed the crime “to avenge many years of humiliation from her husband.” He did not provide further details.

Santos denied killing her husband but said she chopped up his body, Bonfim said.

“She claims masked assailants entered her house, killed her husband and then forced her to cut up the body and fry it because that would prevent the stench of a decomposing body from alerting neighbors,” he said.

The pet store only sold supplies for pets, not pets. It is a strange place to take a lost cat. She was runnig around a neighborhood for a couple of days, and this guy saw her hanging around and then almost hit by a car. She was friendly, so he took her to this store. Funny!

Why Men Are Proud of Themselves

1. We know stuff about tanks
2. A 5-day trip requires only one suitcase
3. We can open all our own jars
4. We can go to the bathroom without a support group
5. We don’t have to learn to spell a new last name
6. We can leave a motel bed unmade
7. We can kill our own food
8. We get extra credit for the slightest act of
thoughtfulness
9. Wedding plans take care of themselves
10. If someone forgets to invite us to something they can
still be our friend
11. Underwear is $10 a three-pack
12. If you are 34 and single nobody notices
13. Everything on our faces stays the original color
14. Three pair of shoes are more than enough
15. We don’t have to clean the house if the meter reader is
coming
16. Car mechanics tell us the truth
17. We can sit quietly and watch a game with a friend for
hours without thinking “He must be mad at me.”
18. Same work-more pay
19. Gray hair and wrinkles only add character
20. We can drop by to see a friend without having to bring a
little gift
21. If another guy shows up at a party in the same outfit
you just might become lifelong friends
22. Your pals will never trap you with: “So, notice anything
different?”
23. We are not expected to know the names of more than 5
colors
24. We almost never have a “strap problem” in public
25. We are totally unable to see wrinkles in our clothes
26. The same hairstyle lasts for years-maybe decades
27. We don’t have to shave below the neck
28. A few belches are expected and tolerated
29. Our belly usually hides our big hips
30. One wallet, one pair of shoes, one color, all seasons
31. We can do our nails with a pocketknife
32. We have freedom of choice concerning growing a mustache
33. Christmas shopping can be accomplished for 25 people on
the day before Christmas and in 45 minutes

**Taiwan offers ‘freeway’ for butterflies**
Sat Mar 24, 6:16 AM ET

TAIPEI, Taiwan - Taiwan will cordon off part of a highway to create a safe passage for a massive seasonal butterfly migration in the coming days, an official said Saturday.

The milkweed butterflies — which are indigenous to the island off China and have distinct white dots on purple brown wings — migrate in late March from southern Taiwan to the north, where they lay eggs and die.

The young butterflies then fly south every November to a warm mountain valley near the southern city of Kaohsiung to escape the winter cold in the north.

Conservationists say Taiwan has about 2 million milkweed butterflies.

To protect the migrating butterflies, a 600-yard stretch of highway in southern Taiwan’s Yunlin County will be sealed off in the coming days as the migration peaks, said Lee Tai-ming, head of the National Freeway Bureau.

Authorities will set up nets to make the butterflies fly higher and avoid passing cars, Lee said.

He said they will also install ultraviolet lights to guide the insects across a highway overpass.

Taiwan began the laborious task of tracking down the butterflies’ 180-mile migration paths in recent years.

Taiwan originally had more types of milkweed butterflies, but the largest became extinct decades ago when they were routinely caught and made into specimens for sale, the newspaper said.

Garfield is an absolute cutie pie ! I am partial to grey kittes… :)

I just received this in my email… thought it definitely worth sharing here.

From Snopes.com

To whom it all concerns:

Just a word to the wise. E-mail petitions are NOT acceptable to Congress or
any other municipality. To be acceptable petitions must have a signed
signature and full address. Same with “prayer chains” -be wary.

Almost all e-mails that ask you to add your name and forward on to others
are similar to that mass letter years ago that asked people to send business
cards to the little kid in Florida who wanted to break the Guinness Book of
Records for the most cards All it was, and all this type of e-mail is, is
to get names and “cookie” tracking info for tele-marketers and spammers to
validate active e-mail accounts for their own purposes.

Any time you see an e-mail that says forward this on to “10″ of your
friends, sign this petition, or you’ll get good luck, or whatever, it has
either an ! e-mail tracker program attached that tracks the cookies and
e-mails of those folks you forward to, or the host sender is getting a copy
each time it gets forwarded and then is able to get lists of “active”
e-mails to use in spam e-mails, or sell to others that do.

Please forward this notice to others and you will be providing a good
service to your friends, and will be rewarded by not getting 30,000 spam
e-mails in the future.

Thank you Debby. Gee, I just sent one yesterday and before I did it I felt uneasy. Should have listened to my “instinct”.

What about HSUS and HSI??? Are they involved in such a blatant hoax?

Not all email petitions are hoaxes. Organizations like HSUS and other non-profits do deliver petitions collected by email to Congress (I know; I work for a non-profit in DC). These organizations collect the required identifying information (name, city, state) from people when they initially register as email activists on their websites. Reputable organizations send email petition requests only to people who have agreed to receive them. The petitions are perfectly valid when delivered to elected officials or government agencies.

The problem is with chain emails from shady people who pretend to be speaking for some non-existent group who are only collecting email addresses for spam. I personally sign email petitions only if I have registered with the organization to receive their emails and I know they are legitimate.

Great work!! Saw a lot of it but I don’t have MIME downloaded so most I could not see. Have no idea what MIME is. Can it be downloaded on a I-Mac?
