I heard that Howard Stern (the radio sleazebag, NOT the lawyer sleazebag) has mounted a campaign among his listeners to call in votes for the WORST singer. If that’s true, there IS a sucker born every minute, judging by Sanjaya’s support.

Someone said that he’s getting a lot of votes from Hawaii since he used to live there. He pointed out that a prior contestant (not talented) from Hawaii had lasted quite a while due to Hawaii voting.

That being said, I think Sanjaya is very sweet and I like ALL of his hair changes - he’s just having fun. I’m not saying he should still be there. But this *is* America - if we want to elect a low-talent pretty boy to represent us - we can! (I’m not referring to Bush, either)

Has anyone else noted that 3x as many girls tried out as the boys - and the talent different is sooooo noticeable!

I think there are actually web sites created by “american idol opposers” who are all rallying to get people to vote for Sanjaya b/c they think it will do American Idol in. It is sad the lengths that people will go to and I think it is just awful that Sanjaya is still around for that reason.

My cats have recently started snubbing fancy feast, and they do not snub their canned food! I’ve put them on dry only, and am sticking to (yuck)Meow mix, because that one is so far not on any list. Now my dog won’t touch his science diet large breed dry, and we are giving balanced table scraps until I get a good sound recipie.

“pet promise” is an organic producer…and my kitties love it…no artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives, no animal byproducts, no brain or spinal tissue, no rendered meats or fats, no wheat, no antibiotic fed, no growth hormone, no meat from dead, diseased, dying, down or disabled animals. 5.5 oz can is 99 cents, 3 lb bag is about 8 dollars, and no i am not in any way connected to this company. i find it at wegmans or on the internet…

I also feed my kitties “Pet Promise”, as it is recommended by Dr. Andrew Weil. In Los Angeles, it is available at Wild Oats (a boutique grocery store that was recently purchased by its rival Whole Foods). I had downloaded a list of the top 10 cat foods, found on aboutcats.com, and tried them all. My kitties are reverse snobs. They did not like Felidae or Evo, or Innova, or anything like that. I did not want to feed them commercial food and my preferred Pro Plan is always phasing out the kitten’s favorite type. So my cats have deigned to eat “Pet Promise” and they also really like the dry food available at Trader Joe’s.

I have a recommendation regarding homemade food. A lot of breeders will have their own special recipes that they feed their cats, and a lot of them are on their websites. I don’t have any purebred cats, but I like to look at the pix of the cats on the websites, and I have found several recipes that way. My girl cat looks a lot like a Tonkinese, so I went on the websites for Tonkinese cats and got several recipes for raw diets, et. al. That might be one way to approach it. However, don’t forget to add vitamins and supplements to the food, as there are some elements that both cats and dogs will need that are not readily available through food (like taurine for cats).

I am so dismayed by this scandal. It is ridiculous!!! I have been checking with all my colleagues about their cats and making sure that they stay away from the tainted food. I even told my boss, with whom I am feuding, so that her new kitten would not be harmed (I like the kitten, if not my boss). I recommended to her that she get some “Pet Promise”.

Anyway, I hope all you TDK’ers are well, as are your pets. If I can dig up the recipes for food and supplements I will post them tomorrow. Take care–

I get a small package of chicken livers and cook them a bit in the microwave - once they my cats love this treat. Also a bit of raw 99%fat free hamburger once in a while. I need to look up some of those receipes mentioned above.

1/2 cup cooked rice

1/4 cup chopped carrot, cooked until tender
Chicken broth
Process all ingredients in a food processor or blender with enough chicken broth to hold together. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

Catnip Cookies
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/4 cup soy flour
1 teaspoon catnip
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
2 tablespoons wheat germ
1/3 cup powdered milk
1 tablespoon unsulfured molasses
2 tablespoons butter or vegetable oil
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix dry ingredients together, then add molasses, egg, oil and milk. Roll dough out flat onto a greased cookie sheet and cut into small pieces. Bake for 20 minutes.
Store in tightly sealed container.

Tuna Tidbits

6 ounce can of tuna

1/4 cup water drained from tuna

3 T cooked egg white, chopped

1/4 cup cornmeal

1/2 cup whole wheat flour

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine tuna, egg white and water. Add cornmeal and flour and blend to form a dough. Knead into a ball and roll to 1/4 inch thick. Cut into one-inch sized pieces. Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes. Makes 12 cookies.

Feline Fish Balls
1 (8 ounce) can tuna in oil, drained
2 ounces cooked herring, skin removed
3 baby carrots, boiled until tender, mashed
1 egg, beaten
3 tablespoons grated cheese
2 tablespoons whole grain bread crumbs or rolled oats
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 teaspoons brewer’s yeast *
1/4 teaspoon catnip
Combine all ingredients; mix well. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and place balls 1 inch apart on a greased cookie sheet. Bake in a 350 degree F oven for 15-20 minutes, until golden brown and firm. Let cool on wire racks.
* Brewer’s yeast is an excellent source of essential fatty acids and B-Complex vitamins for a glossy coat and stable nervous system.

Crispy Liver Morsels

1/2 cup cooked chicken livers

1/4 cup water

1 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

1/4 cup cooked carrot, mashed

1 tablespoon soft margarine

Preheat the oven to 325 F. Place well-done livers in a blender with 1/4 cup water. In a bowl, combine flour and margarine. Add liver mixture and carrots and knead dough into a ball. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thick and cut into one-inch sized pieces. Place cookies on a greased cookie sheet and bake at 325 F for 10 minutes. Makes 12 cookies.

The tough one about this recipe is getting the cooked livers past my honey! Enjoy!!!

When my Melveen was a kitten, she could not hold down ANY kind of kitten food. The vet recommended boiling 1/2 lb of ground beef along with 1 cup of uncooked rice and 2 cups water for 20 minutes (until the rice absorbs the water). The food kept in the fridge until it was eaten up (we would spoon out a portion and nuke it to lukewarm–stir carefully and test w/the inside of the wrist, like you would baby formula).

Melveen ate this from the age of 6 wks (when we adopted her) until about 4 months. She grew into a tough, beautiful cat who never had digestive problems again.

Thanks for receipe. I receive a cat magazine published by Tufts Veterinary School called “Catnip” they recently did a survey on food - you should look for Poultry meal as the first ingredient - NOT poultry- by- product meal - that can be anything and not always fresh either. There is also a label to look for (approval of food by animal group) can’t remember it now, will tell you later.

I read on yesterday’s kitten that one or two posters had problems, but they were not sure. They had more than one cat get sick. They were giving Iams dry and fancy feast canned, which is precisely what I give mine, so if anyone knows anything, feel free to pass it along, thanks

All the reports that I have heard state that dry food is NOT affected. I feed mine Iams dry (weight control for the portly pusses) and they have had no problems. I have actually read and seen reports that confirm that dry food is not a problem. Hopefully nothing new will come out, but this is just what I have understood to this point.

There are numerous reports on sites referenced here yesterday that Iams dry may have some unrelated issue. It is not acknowledged by Iams. Instinct, do you have better information?

Typical male–on the couch, flat on his back, fat belly, unshaven, and jealously defending the remote!

What’s he watching, Pussycat Dolls? Josie and the Pussycats? Or reruns of To Tell the Truth with Kitty Carlyle Hart?

Instinct–I meant to tell you that your response to my, “Why don’t men listen?” cracked me up! Good one. I read it out loud to my friend and he cracked up, too!

That one was a classic! I wish I had Instinct’s sense of timing. I always know the right thing to say–5 minutes too late.

Afternoon to you two, too!
