Dr Tounge’s 3-D House of Pancakes has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen them do…next to Floyd Camenbert showing up loaded in the SCTV newsroom still in his Count Floyd get up…amazing, the power of TDK to bring back memories of very non-kitten related things…;-)

I finally interupted and asked her how many men have you heard named Sue besides Johnny Cashes song. She was rude and did not listen which so many people don’t they have a set amount of questions and don’t listen to the answers.

Floyd may be a wee bit of a brat but she is adorable. Don’t we all have some fuzzies that are forever imps. I know I do.

Good morning all. Our snow has been called off, just lots and lots of rain. April showers I can handle, just so glad I don’t have to get out the snow shovel.

This morning while I was cleaning all the litter boxes I had an idea for naming my future kitties. I already have one I call Mink or Minkie. I think it would be fun to have a Diamond, Ruby, Pearl, Caddy, Mercedes, Audi, Jag, (you get the idea). Then I could tell every one I have all these luxuries by name. Do you think the above thinking could be the result of litter dust? :P

Hi Miu - Aother thought. See if you can get a copy of the book “Cat Confidential” by Vicky Halls. This is a sort of general kitty behaviour book. She has also written one about specific problem situations called “Cat Detective”. (Both are available on Amazon). She is a cat psychologist and I think her books are very good. She does have one view that I know most folks on this site will not agree with; she doesn’t like multi-cat homes. ;-) But she still has good advice. One of her suggestions is a formula for the number of litter boxes in a home - 1 for each cat plus 1, the idea being that this should number should allow each cat to have at least one they are happy with using. Good luck!

2007-04-15 16:48:52

Just a thought about multi cat homes. I read somewhere you shouldn’t have more cats than rooms in your house.
Make sense, no?
I wonder if bathrooms count? Cause if they do I could get 2 more kitties to make us a fur family of 5!
I didn’t even count my so called kitchen :)

OOPS! if thats the case I’ve got problems. :) I don’t have anywhere near 17 rooms nor do I have 17 litter boxes plus 1.

Evangeline, of course you can count the two bathrooms and the so-called kitchen too. That’s 3 more, and a fur family of 6. Good news in case some needy purr babies come pulling your heart strings.

My oldest cat would always never let other cats around when he was outside. He would always fight and chase them off. He did this until my “orangie” showed up and it was like instant bonding. I ask my vet why all of a sudden did he decide that he liked him…his reply was I think cats are like people “aren’t there people you don’t like to be around.” So maybe it is the personalities in cats are just like humans. We all have our quirks that irriate someone else but we as humans refrain from bringing the claws out!!!!

OK. I’ve noticed that they DO have ‘the right to change their mind whenever they want in every matter they choose.’
The last issue was the food. Their last week’s favourite food just isn’t good enough any more. There is no reason to believe it is contaminated - I suppose they demand variety. But I have yet to find a new food they choose to eat.

Hi Susie,
I live in a rural area about 60 miles north of Dallas/Ft. Worth. It is close to Decatur, Texas. I was born and raised here and never lived in another state so I guess I’m the true country girl. Your brother is very lucky. He lives in a very pretty part of Texas. Our area is also pretty but does not stay as green during the hot summer months! Things seem to turn brown in the 100 plus summer heat. As far as everything being bigger in Texas…well I do have a boy kitty that weighed in at 14 pounds at 7 months…and we do have some pretty big rattlesnakes…which I could do without! Hope your brother enjoys living here!

I lived in Dallas near Highland Park when I was 7. I recall a tornado came within 3 miles of our house. The wind was howling in our area. I had to go out and get my bike off the front yard and put in the back. I was very scared. I also recall the summer temps as being on average 105 degrees. We went all summer in the community pool and back then it was only $5 to get in all summer.

She’s a brat because she lives in a house of university students and when we are studying she will do the most annoying things like launching herself at clothes in the closet. All because we can’t pay attention to her for a few hours. She’s a bit better now because one of my housemates got a kitten close in age to Floyd, so they usually just go off and play when we can’t pay attention. But sometimes they team up and try to tell me that kittens are much more important than biochemsitry. (I usually agree with them)

Comment by miu
2007-04-15 20:40:28

Your ‘brat’ is a very pretty and clever lady.

I have two adult cats, a boy and a girl. I had to get a lock to my closet because the girl frequently opened the door, jumped on a shelf and threw my clothes to the floor. When the shelf was empty she wiggled herself to an upper shelf and did the same thing again. Usually only the 2 lowest shelves were untouched - I guess there was not enough challenge.

PS. I agree with biochemistry. You have two kittens and friends in a house and you plan to study IT???

My Perry is still eating and drinking a lot as well. He is overly lovable though! I think with everything going on with the food and all the sick kitties lately that is hard not to worry about them…even our healthy ones. I opened a new sack of food yesterday and made sure that I would be home for a couple of days to watch my fur babies after they eat in case they started acting strange. Glad your fur baby is feeling better!

2007-04-15 22:27:05

I have not been reading all the posts so forgive me if this has been covered. I saw this on CNN two weeks ago. A vet said that she would not give her pets any food with WHEAT GLUTEN She saw this ingredient as the only common link. A week later another food was recalled this time a Canadian brand that I use (not the exact product) but it was really scary to hear Medi-Cal mentioned in the same breath as
as the recalls. So I feel vindicated cause after I heard that vet I checked the foods (3 kitties 3 different foods …don’t ask)
And no wheat gluten. I just thought I would mention this just in case. My heart aches for the poor babies who got sick or worse. I know none of us want to hear about even one more kitty or dogie being sick.

I don’t think they put wheat gluten in dry food normally? But, you never know. What if it isn’t even listed as an ingredient? They say that the dry food is manufactured in a different place, but the same bad wheat may have been used just the same. I am just so afraid,,,,

Hey Evangeline.
I just got finished reading the site of Itchmo and some people lost their pets eating dry Iams original, and Hill’s Science dry regular!!! The vet gave my Perry c/d Hills and people lost their pets to that too!! OMG I am so scared now. Maybe that is why Perry is so clingy and whiny cause the food he eats is bad too! I bet he got sick from the dry Iams I was giving him cause the pain in the neck wouldn’t eat the Newman’s Own Organic I bought my cats!! He wouldn’t eat the c/d at the vets or at home but probably got so hungry he noe eats it. My POOR baby!! I feel as if someone punched me in the stomach! Darn, the Health Food store isn’t even open now…. closed tomorrow also. Maybe I’ll get him fancy feast or make chicken. Picky thing he is….

2007-04-16 01:05:34

Fancy Feast Gosh Bumblebee, I hope you are reading this.
I told my vet that my very finicky Sydney will only eat Fancy Feast and me being somewhat of a food snob didn’t think anything from a supermarket could be good food. WRONG!
He said Fancy Feast is fine. My Sydney adores turkey and giblet. No wheat in it. No gluten of any kind. Hope this helps.

Glad to hear Perry is doing so much better. As for his meowing,he might just be missing his outside enviroment. I have 2 males indoors & from time to time they do alittle sounding off themselves. What helped me,and i know not why, was growing some grass for them to nibble on since they no longer can go out to graze like they used to. It really helped them calm down.

Perry was never really outdoors though. He was born in my house and was always an indoor kitty. I think he still may be looking for his sister? I gave her away at 1 1/2 years old. He was so upset afterwards and meowed for her for weeks. It just broke my heart. I won’t do that again. She is a medium long haired calico, and just beautiful! Her name is Tiara Rose Marie. I gave her to a lady in NJ that lost her cat after 18 years and was heart broken. She visited us and the cat went right to her. I felt so sorry for this lady so gave Tiara to her. Boy, I wish I hadn’t.
Thanks for the suggestion though! Sounds like a great idea! :)

Bumblebee- Your description of Tiara Rose sounds exactly like one of the new kittens in my back yard. She’s beautiful, but, she has long hair, not medium like your Tiara. She’s about ten months old now. If something doesn’t come up soon to find a home for them,I’ll have to trap her & her brothers & sister & take them to the city shelter. I don’t no what else to do. It’s not fair to them. Their mother is already out there somewhere w/a new littler. I haven’t been able to find. I’m sorry for the pain your going thru missing Miss Tiara’s company.

TNR stands for trap, neuter and release. If you know somewhere (a national chain of pet stores or a vet) that holds pet adoptions, speak with a volunteer, and ask for information about other groups, and TNR. Have fun.

So glad to hear your Perry is feeling better. I thought Sylvester’s paw was better but he started limping again this morning. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow. Not sure what they find but I guess they will need to take x-rays. He will not like that.

Karin in Sf Ca,
I have been concerned about your Sylvester’s paw also, but have been so wrapped up in my Perry being so sick, I haven’t really commented too much to the comments, although I read each and every one.
Now, my Perry is meowing again…. saomething has got to be bothering him. He was just sleeping in the chair, meowed and jumped down.

Bumblebee, so sorry that Perry is giving you so much worry. I hope nothing is wrong again or still. You said he is eating okay so it shouldn’t be to serious. I think most cats go off food whenever stressed from pain or illness. I could be wrong, but that is the way my kits are.

I suppose you better call the vet in the morning just to ask about his crying.

Yes, that is true Elene, but he is eating the special c/d food by Hills and I read on Itchmo that people have lost their cats after eating it! The cat is sick, goes to the vet, has IV fluids, etc. Goes home eating the kidney food and ends up dying! I don’t want that to happen to my precious Perry!! As I type, he is meowing in the other room again….. The Siamese coming out in him!! I don’t mind the meowing, I only worry why he does it so much now?? When I talk to him, he comes running and jumps on my lap. Awwwww
I think the dry Iams he was eating may have made him sick. I read that a cat can get kidney problems and/or block. He was blocked. I am worried sick!

I read somewhere that cats respond to the dominant sound in their name, such as “oy” in Floyd. So if you call them Babydoll they don’t know who you mean.
